    It has been my experience that satisfaction comes not only from the how a system functions but also from how happy you are with the installation, especially when you design it yourself. Your install looks great.

      Thanks Steven! Yes it’s very rewarding to have a plan come together. I love tinkering with things. I was a millwright before I retired so it’s kind of in my DNA.

      I’m thinking your probably right on the price Jerry. Always nice to hope. Still not more than what I was paying anyway. It was worth while to plan and take care. The system is working like a dream!

    Yea, you've reached the ultimate level! Man that speedtest result was darn fast! I relatively don't see those numbers here myself consistently but touch them every so often! Guess it was sad that you had to lose your big Pine but your good and resourceful so it'll become something not wasted! I'll have to say I'm envious of your mount and tower because it's so much easier to do house reno's with it not being a part of your structure which most of us have to contend with later.

    • @retiredforlife63
      @retiredforlife63  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Roger! Yea, I was disappointed to have to cut the pine. But I’m looking forward to incorporating it somewhere else is it’s not really a lose. Just repurposed. I have seen my speed drop as low as 50 on occasion but for me that it still blinding fast. I uploaded this video in about 20 minutes we’re on the old system it would of taken up to 5 hours if it kept going. It’s been quite a change.

      @@retiredforlife63 Oh nice about the upload of videos being much less of a waiting game! I do love that also as I used to almost never upload anything as it would often fail or just hog the whole connection that no one could do anything LOL.
      Watched a few of your ride videos also, you really do get around that area don't ya! Post a summary every now and then how your doing, if the obstructions check out ok after also on your starlink app!

    Nice setup and install. Have you considered some strain relief for the cable against that sharp edge of the copper pipe? Maybe an elbow fitting or perhaps bending the pipe some might help?
    It looks like the cable as shown was hanging loose - so I'm thinking about the cable just rubbing against that edge over time. But perhaps that was just an initial shot and you've already come up with a solution.

    • @retiredforlife63
      @retiredforlife63  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Will. What I did was hold the cable in the Center of the pipe and pump silicone cocking around it about an inch deep into the pipe. This sealed the pipe and protects the cable at the same time.

    Unfortunately if you look at your debug info you’ll likely see obstructions. This will be from your tower. Remember that you aren’t just pointing to one satellite in a fixed location, rather it tracks satellites moving across the sky and the dish needs to see a lot more sky.

    • @retiredforlife63
      @retiredforlife63  3 года назад +1

      Yes I see what you mean. But I’m not showing any downtime for blockage and getting very high speeds so I don’t think I would consider this an issue.

      @@retiredforlife63 The app said 29sec in 10 min, has that cleared off now? The antenna above looks like it would just be clipping more than the tower.

    • @retiredforlife63
      @retiredforlife63  3 года назад

      @@That1ufo Yes. The only down time I have is from Beta stuff. I don't really know what it is they do during this Beta time. Looking at the app right now it shows in the last 12 hours there has been 6 minutes Beta downtime. Nothing else. It's been like that since after I moved and restarted the system. The 29 seconds was just the restart as the dish moved to line up with the satellites. It is working beautifully. SO FAST!

    • @DannyCzech
      @DannyCzech 3 года назад +1

      @@retiredforlife63 6 minues of beta downtime will be because of the obstruction caused by pole. It is most likely sum of each interruption when ever satelite is behind your antenna pole. Each interruption is probably short, so it is not interrupting visible during your usage, for example when you browse internet, because you are not downloading new pages constantly. But sometimes you may try to open new page and it might take several seconds longer than usual or you will need to refresh browser window to load it. Also when watching video, you have probably enough stream buffered offline so you can't see interruption. But if you use voice calls, you may see disconnections in audio as this is live call and you can't buffer it. Also some instant live video streams might be interrupted, but not all as they are usually delayed so there is a bit of buffer there also.

  • @AndrewLumsden

    Very good 👍 but wouldn't self tapping screws between the two halves of the pole, or a bolt right through be better? I've never heard of wind chimes beeping before!!! Mine actually chime.

    • @retiredforlife63
      @retiredforlife63  3 года назад

      😄 I noticed I had said that after I posted. It’s a new type of wind chimes. I don’t trust self tapping screws that much when exposed to something like windy conditions. As a retired millwright, I’ve seem them come loose to often but yes a straight through couple of bolts would have worked well if not better. I just decided to go with what came with it.

    4:38 This is really bad spot for StarLink. If anywhere, it should be up to the top of the pole. In current placement pole is in the way and you will have disconnections when ever dish will be directed towards the sky behind pole. As rod is right next to your StarLink mount, drops in the signal will be quite significant.

    • @retiredforlife63
      @retiredforlife63  2 года назад

      Actually because the dish points to the north to pick up the satellites the tower does not interfere at all. I did check this out before making the mount permanent. When I look at the Starlink app I have no blockage and it is extremely fast but thanks for the comment.

    • @retiredforlife63
      @retiredforlife63  3 года назад

      When I first installed Starlink there was some blockages from trees that I knew wold be an issue. I was getting the occasional blockage dropouts and sometimes speeds would briefly drop below 25. I was still getting speeds up to 160 but not regularly. That was still a massive improvement over my previous provider. I had very frequent dropouts and speeds often as low as 1.5. Getting speeds of up to 4 was becoming more and more infrequent. The system I had was suppose to have speeds of up to 25 Mbps. Never happened.

      @@retiredforlife63 You can move it around a certain zone around the address, but this lock to the zone is only during the beta stage of the service. Once most satelites are up, the restriction is most likely to be removed to bring service also on moving objects like boats or trucks. They just don't want to overload a zone at the current stage with around 2500 satelites around the world. ( At the end, there should be around 40000.. ) Takes a while on bringing up around 60 new satelites with one rocket each time.
