It seems I was wrong about one crucial fact in this video.... The Streamer X will be fully functional with the Mac, rather than just fully compatible with the Unify PC Software... here's a video in which I explain more: "I Was Wrong About The New Rode Streamer X!" - ruclips.net/video/IuBcGGXXt7k/видео.html
Great Video! Is there a way to connect 3 cameras to the Streamer X, maybe with an adaptor? I run a Podcast with three cameras and am looking for a device that helps me connect the three cameras to the laptop with 4k. Thank you, and keep going with the good work.
Amazing video! Great information. I am really excited for the Rodecaster Duo I hope the price is half of the Pro version. If the price is around $500 is too much I think.
Thanks Stefan, glad you liked it! I’m sure the price point will be a sticking point for many, although I’ve got to say when I look at all it can do vs the Rodecaster Pro 2, it’s pretty much got it all, except only 2 mics. It’d totally cover my current use of the RCP2, so perhaps they’re basing on the total capabilities rather than just the inputs. I just looked at pre-ordering one from B&H in the US, although I’m based in Thailand and shipping and import tax added another $280!! Think I may be waiting for local availability for mine! 😂
Thanks Alec for your videos on these RODE products. I do think the duo is a great product and will sell well if priced competitively. Given that most people start to investigate the RODE Procaster II when looking for an Audio Interface for a mic or two the duo fits that space well. And it also has a ton of additionally functionality without potentially breaking the bank. This is what kept me for a long time from purchasing one and I only picked up a RODE Procaster II during the Black Friday sales when it was offered at 25% discount. One other thing to note is that as RODE is an Australian company those prices quoted could well be in AUD rather than US. I think that of this is true than they are competitively priced and what I would expect in AUD to pay (note that the article say international prices have not been set)
Disappointed to hear the Duo costing $500, unofficially ofcourse. Might as well get the bigger model to cover future expansion. And I feel like the new mic should have the grey grill as the podmic does imo.
It appears that the Duo might serve my needs just as well as the Rodecaster Pro II, and though not a huge cost savings the real estate savings on my desk top would appear to be significant!
Hi Alec, thanks for another great video session! This Rodecaster duo looks very nice!! I have a question about your RODEcaster PRO 2 masterclass: I have the first generation of the RODEcaster PRO (not ”2”). Do you have another masterclass for that or can I attend this course anyway?
I don't have a course specific to the Rodecaster Pro 1, and the RCP2 masterclass does cover all of the functionality of the RCP2 specifically. That said the main reason I created the course was to explain the audio processing theory and terminology around things like compressors, noise gates etc... and how to set them up to get the best results from your Rodecaster. Those sections of the course and those related to general audio setup will apply equally to the Rodecaster Pro 1 as much as the 2. Hope that helps! (I do offer a money back guarantee on the course if you buy it and are not entirely satisfied with the content.
Thanks a mil yet again Alec, I wondered if rode have missed a trick by not adding a 3.5 m stereo out to connect directly to a camera? I was hoping that would be an update, instead of trying and failing to find a Y cable. Do you have suggestions for a solution? Thanks again. Peter
If you are not using all of the headphone sockets, you could always use one of those with a, albeit you’d need a 3.5mm - ¼” adapter to plug in to one of those…. Then you’d have a feed for your camera and with the relatively new audio routing features added to the RCP, you’d be able to chose exactly which channels to route to the camera. With the new Rodecaster Duo, you could have your headphones at the new additional front socket and then use the other one at the back for the camera. Hope that helps! :-)
Yes I've been using the Rodecaster Pro 2 since it was released in June Last year... prior to that I was simply using my Shure MV7 microphone directly into my computer over USB. I love the Rodecaster Pro 2, although the Rodecaster Duo would completely satisfy all of my needs with the feature set it has.
Hi Alec, thanks for another great video. I just came across this one. I have an issue, and I am wondering if this device would be able to solve it for me. As you know, there are many issues with sound interference between RCP and Atem Mini. I have tried different methods to address it including using a clean box to change line balanced signal to mic unbalanced to atem. Since my MacBook Pro M1 is connected to the atem mini via hdmi as a secondary monitor, I decided to send the audio to the atem mini via this connection. For this, I needed to use the audio high jack app to route the audio from the rcp 2 to the hdmi going to the atem mini. This solved the interference beautifully, but the only thing is that it introduced latency. I have done everything suggested by Rogue Amoeba to reduce the latency to no avail. Now that I see this device from Rode, I wonder if I took the main audio from the roadcaster into the Stream X, and then, take the HDMI out of the MBP M1 into Stream X, and then, HDMI to the Atem mini, will that get rid of the delay? In my setup, this would be the only reason why I would use the streamer x. If this worked, is there any drawback? Thanks so much in advance!
The routing option using Streamer X that you have outlined there would not really solve it, since the Streamer X would not be passing the Rodecaster Audio through the HDMI.... rather it is would be combining the RødeCaster Audio with the HDMI audio (from your computer) and then passing that into the USB feed into whatever the Stream X was plugged into. I wasn't actually aware of interference issue with RødeCaster and ATEM, as I don't use an ATEM.... How are you currently connecting it up and what is the interference issue? I'd have thought that using the speaker output from RødeCaster could just go into the line in on the ATEM.... ie a cable with left/right RCA jacks on one end and a 3.5mm TRS on the other should work, or is that not the case?
@@TakeOneTech thanks Alec. I thought I could connect the audio from the RCP to the HDMI in on the streamer and not even connect it to the streamer, just take the hdmi out of the streamer into the atem mini hdmi in. As for how I have it connect it, the thing is that the RCP has a balanced line out and the atem expects an unbalanced mic in. That’s why a converter like the cleanbox is needed. Signal is a lot cleaner with the cleanbox, but I still get a connection interference. Maybe due to all connections in my studio. Thanks again Alec. I have learned a lot from you.
Good question. My guess would be no, but I've guessed wrong already this week about the Streamer X being PC only, so I'll hold of the assumptions until I know for sure on this one!
From my understanding you can program the buttons like a streamdeck. I use my streamdeck to control everything on my desk and - via IFTTT - everything I can automate in my home(air con, lights, roborock vaccum cleaner). However, I'm curious as to how this would work in practice. If its as flexible I may just replace my Focusrite and Streamdeck with a shiny new Rodecaster pro or duo.
@@PhillipHilton this is exactly what I need. I have not yet purchased a stream deck. As I feel my audio need separate channels first. But this ticks all the boxes for one unit.
When it comes to programming the smart pads, it technically is possible, although it doesn't quite have the simplicity and certainly not the range of plugins as the Stream Deck. I use both devices for very different purposes. Rodecaster for audio control and routing, Steam Deck for application control and automation.
I hope to God that the TRRS jack to lighting dongle will interface properly into iPhone for wired content creation, Twitter spaces and live social audio, etc. Being stuck with Bluetooth on the RCP2 for twitter just destroys quality unfortunately.
@Rode say specifically in their announcement video ""...and you can add studio quality Aphex processing to your inputs and route your audio any way that you like using Unify..." so unless they miss spoke or did not give full information then adding that processing requires Unify - a PC only app. Everything else I have seen working on the Mac.... capture card etc...

The Rodecaster Duo certainly can do that (just as can be done on the Rodecaster Pro 2) because it can be paired with a Mobile phone over Bluetooth just like it was a Bluetooth headset. Then the caller can hear the full production and they also obviously come into ‘the mix’ on the Rodecaster. You can also plug iOS devices in over USB and take audio in from a phone that way too, although Apply will not allow it to be used as the mic input for a call that way.
