Bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus, AKA Blaeberry or Whortleberry) are carpeting the hills of North Wales at the moment, and it's easy to see why this tiny red/purple berry has such a strong cultural association with local villages.
In this video Richard Prideaux talks about the common names, uses and other information about this edible wild plant.

We made this back in 2017 - we've come a long way since then, and now have an entire brand dedicated to authentic, ethical and sustainable wild food:

I found a large amount today while visiting North Yorkshire - amazing quantity
I used to pick lots of Gooseberry many years ago. I can imagine a slow old forage with these. Great info. Take care. Mark
Picked these as a kid, family day out! Parents would literally plonk my brother and I into a bush of bilberries with a small bucket and pick by hand. No fancy tool like you have 😂
A very Polish tradition. Oh and we picked them in Surrey. Loads but can’t say where!
Great video, picked them every year as kids, though we called them Whinberries. Makes a fantastic pie👍 A hardy plant, even saw the plant in Iceland👍
Great info Sir... thanks.
Nice one rich, me thinks I know where that is 😉
Llys might actually be Llus but mistranslated?
