Great video and very informative! I finished the diploma in August last year. Currently working as an Enrolled Nurse in a medical ward. Start Uni this month! :D

Hi Yana, Keep up the great work, am loving the videos. I have just been accepted to study for the Dip. of Nursing at TAFE QLD next year and your videos gave me the motivation to apply. Was wondering if you worked while you were studying to be an EN in your 1st year? How did you find doing both? Or did you only start working 6 months into the course? Did you find you could get enough casual work to help pay rent/mortgage, bills etc...
Hi Paul! You are welcome! I have briefly answered your questions in DMs to me on Insta, but also feel free to watch my latest Q&A video where I am highlighting on answering some of your questions in more details :)
Hello Yana, thanks so much for your videos. Very interesting! Hope you will make more videos about your nursing experience :) Could you, please tell: What is the 'patient to nurse' ratio in QLD, Australia? In simple words: how many patients one nurse is assigned to care for in one shift/day? Min. and max number. Would be grateful for your answer :)
I`m not sure about all the hospitals, but what I have seen and see is: in public sector it is 2 nurses per 8 beds, so 1:4 patients per shift. In public I`ve noticed it is a bit higher: could be 2:9. But if some of those patients are on post OB`s, then they may have a third nurse called in for few hours shift to help out. Night shifts are a bit different. Usually ratio is higher. Hello.. may I ask if you suggest finishing diploma and become a EN first and study further to become a RN after, or just going straight to RN? 😭 I am so frustrated
Hi there! It depends who do you want to become in the end. If RN, then going straight to Uni will save you time. If just EN, then Tafe or equivalent education provider for Diploma of enrolled nursing is your choice.
Basically AIN position is more hands on, which means that AIN`s usually help more with ADL`s (daily life activities) for patients. This includes: showering or assisting with showering (depending on physical abilities of the patient), dressing up and grooming, assisting with oral hygiene, feeding, assisting with toileting, doing a bit of tiding up in a room (if its an aged care facility) or around the bed (if its a hospital) - like changing bed sheets for example. Although, sometimes EN`s and RN`s do help with daily pt`s cares as well.
Thanks for sharing your experiences I am still at school but i am thinking to leave school and study nursing at tafe do we need to pass ILTS to get job?
You're welcome 😊 ILTS is only for those who immigrated to Australia from a none english speaking country. And they don't have any English studies here.
hi thanks for this video it has helped inform me a lot! if you don't mind me asking, what campus did you study at? i want to commence studies for the July intake. i'm tossing between South Bank and Alex Hills campus.
No worries at all :) For privacy reasons I would not mention exact area of the campus I have studied in, but I can say that is it in Northern suburbs of Brisbane. Either way, all campuses would have the same curriculum and structure of the course. The only difference would be is the areas of your placements. Because TAFE generally sends students not far than 2 hours drive from your home address. But honestly, its very rarely for them to even send you that far. Usually it`s like 30 minutes or 1 hour max from where you live. I have also heard nice reviews about South Bank campus. Good luck with your studies! :)
I am currently in year 11 and I want to become a nurse after school, what course do you think I should study whilst at school? I want to do the tafe at school courses but I’m unsure which one I should go into to
What exactly do you think I should do to become a nurse? Like what courses and pathways would best suit me to become a nurse? I want to do a course whilst in year 11 and 12 then do it full time when I graduate
hi yana, thanks for the very informative video as always. do you think the assessments in tafe will be as difficult as the ones in uni? a friend studied in UTS and her assessments are so full on.
Hi there, thx! Well, while doing my uni now I can say that Tafe assessments were huge, and yes needed a lot of research, yet the ones at uni are more in a essay form which is still difficult and requires a lot of reading and analysing sort of work. But in both institutions you will be working on given scenarios. I hope it makes sense. So at tafe for given scenario you'll need to answer questions, but at uni it will be an essay.
Hi! I know this might be a bit too late but I’m having an Interview tomorrow as an enrolled Diploma of Nursing for Tafe. I attended the Documentation’s day a week ago and I gave them the copies of my certificates, transcripts, passports ect. Do I need to bring anything for my interview and what questions would I be expecting at the interview? Thank you sm :)
Hi Sally! I'm not sure really as I didn't have any interview in person for myself when I was enrolling. Maybe they have changed something these days. Either way wish you all the best 😃
I completed a lot of the classes in the diploma of nursing in USA already . I am to move to Australia to start my diploma of nursing. Is it possible to do some credit transfers so that I do not repeat those classes again.
Hi there! you will need to contact your course provider for that my friend. Here in Australia they recognise the units by their components and unique code. Not sure if they accept it as credit from overseas.
Yes, you will need to do IELTS or its equivalent in order to get enrolled into the course. Certificates II or III are not enough. You would need at least 12 months of full-time study (like diploma) to be approved without English test. These are the new requirements which were not there when I have started 18 months ago. Back then it was enough to do only BKSB test, which is math and English proficiency.
I'm not sure what your visa requirements are, but technically yes, after completion of your diploma you can apply for registration and work as EN' and continue studying your bachelor. There are few aspects to consider here, but yeah all possible.
Hello! Can anyone help me? I am really confuse about diploma in nursing. My dream is to become an RN. Why do we need to undergo diploma in nursing when we can proceed to bachelor in nursing? What are the difference between these two? How long does it take to be an RN if you will be taking diploma in nursing? Can anybody answer my questions? Thank you!!
Hi Dayanne! If you clearly know that you want to become an RN, then there is no need to do a diploma of enrolled nursing. Best way is to go right to uni and start your bachelor of nursing. It generally takes 3 years to complete on full-time study mode. For those who decided to go with diploma first for whatever reasons, they will need to take a pathway to uni, jumping into second year of studies. All in total diploma and bachelor together take 3,5 years to complete (on full-time).
Hi Yana, I am going to do the first aid tomorrow , the teacher required to pre-read all the materials on CONNECT,which includes 200pages on the learner guide. I don’t think I can finish today, I would like to know what is the important part for the theory assessment. What should I pick to read first? I feel stress now. Thank you 🙏
Hi Stephanie, if you do it through Tafe, as far as I remember we didn't have any theoretical assessment. The whole session took about 2 hours or so (if I remember correct) and mainly we were tested on chest compressions for adults and babies, and use of defibrillator. Plus few verbal questions here and there. I think we had done it with CPR together. Because I remember doing dressings in cases or emergency and using doctors ABCD's + recovery position for the person. I don't remember all the details but I would advise you to at least skim through the book. Good luck 😃 it's not hard at all.
Hi Yana, I have a question. I have already finished my Cert III in aged care so done First Aid & CPR. Will I get any credit for that you reckon? Or will I have to do First Aid &CPR again.
Hi there! Usually First Aid certificate valid for 3 years, and CPR for one year. Depending on when you have completed those, just count your time from that day.
@@rifahnanjiba2292 They were changing each semester, but it was couple of options as far as I remember to choose from. I had mines mostly from Mon to Wed.
Hi there! I`m not sure about working and studying full-time all the time, but I work as casual and very often do 8-10 shifts a fortnight, which is equal to a full-time job. It depends on your time-table either at Tafe or Uni and also on the way you orginise your life, study and work. I guess being casual or part-time is a better option just in case to cover you when you have loads of assessments and exams.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences, just I have a question on assignments, how many assignments and in which classes? the topic will be given or it is optional? can you help me with that? Thanks in advance.
Hi there! I have covered amount of assessments in my other video. Generally it's about 6-8 units per semester, each unit will have 1 or 2 assessments. Topics either will be given as per TAFE choice, or given few to students to chose from. I hope it helps 😊
How many months gap will we get to join uni after we graduate diploma? And thank you for such an informative video ❤️highly appreciated!and please tell me that if we can work outside during our placements ?
You are welcome 😊 My gap was from the end of November (23rd) till 17th of February. That's because I broke my last (semester 3) placement into two parts. Therefore, I finished earlier. I'll talk about semester 2 and 3 in my next video once I'm returned from my overseas trip 😊 Some students in my class had smaller gap cause their final placement was finished in the end of December, just before Christmas. Generally most universities start either in the beginning or middle of February. Not sure about mid year intake though. It's somewhere in July. Regarding work outside during your placements - from my experience it is very hard. Just because you'll be full time on your placement, sometimes with breaks during the week and filling in the weekends. Every group of students will have their own roster. That's why I strongly advice to apply for austudy program via your centerlink so that it could cover you financially during your placements.
Hlo sis My class will start on July 25 in TAFE . I heard that TAFE has only two intakes in a year . I think I have to deffer July to another intake. Is there any intake in September November in TAFE NSW for my course bachelor in cyber and network security.
As I remember from what I`ve been told by few other EEN`s, is that they had the same scope of practice as EN`s apart from medication administration. Back then they needed to complete a medication administration course. These days I do not see any more courses offering EEN`s diplomas or certificates because at the moment what health care industry has is mainly EN`s diploma and RN`s bachelor degree. Although I have seen few EEN`s who still work in hospitals, but they are mainly elderly ladies.
@@yana.miller Thank you! Sorry I have a few questions on this because the internet gives really different info about everything. If I was to complete the diploma of nursing in Tafe, do you know what roles working in a hospital would differ from being an RN?
@@harmonyhawke3125 EN`s and RN`s can work in the same roles, the only difference is the scope of practice for both. RN`s usually have their scope of practice a bit wider. And EN`s usually work under supervision of RN`s.
Hi there, after diploma of nursing you will be offered to get a pathway to second year of Uni to complete your bachelor. This is if you are planning to commence on full-time study. If you choose a part-time, it will take longer. But basically Diploma gives you credit of about 8 units (depending on the uni) or in other words skip a first year of study if it makes sense.
This is taken from their website: Academic Requirements: Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent). Non school-leavers must have relevant work experience or qualification that indicates likely success of course completion. @@asteph7314 you have something called OSCA in each semester, plus meds exam in semester two only. Due to covid restrictions there may be no exams or maybe some other changes may occur depending on your tafe and state.

@@zafiakhan1508 do you mean full-time or part-time? For me full-time was better cause I wanted to finish the course quicker. Where as part-time if I'm not mistaken goes for 3 years or something. Don't remember now. You better check online.
Hey , I am planning to take diploma of nursing then taking bachelor of nursing ..... After diploma of nursing will I be able to join 2nd year of bachelor of nursing ? Will u recomend me to take diploma of nursing before bachelors ?
Great to know that you are planning on starting nursing! :) yes, after Diploma you will be able to take a pathway to the second year of Uni to continue with your bachelor of nursing degree. Regarding your second question, it depends on what outcomes you are looking for. If you see yourself working as EN, then diploma of enrolled nursing may be the one you need. But if you want to become a RN, then you would need to complete your bachelor degree. Either way, even if you decide to start with EN and then progress to RN, you will come to Uni with 400 hours of clinical experience and also theory, which will give you some how an advantage among other uni students.
Hi! Could you by any chance discuss if grades matter in looking for a job? as in will the employer ask for your transcripts, how much do grades really matter, etc? I just did my first written assignment in nursing school and I thought I's at least get a high credit, an I got barely a pass, a grand total of 58.9/100... oh to my terror. its so discouraging cause I prepared for it, but I suppose that it just wasn't what the lecturer was looking for. the question covers a really broad spectrum and narrowing it down can be really tricky. and since I know nursing employment can be competitive.. can you provide some advice or discuss about this topic, please? thank you
I think it's gonna be hard physically. I remember during my diploma I was 3 days on campus and other 3 or even sometimes 4 remaining days of the week at work. That made me busy whole 6 or 7 days of the week. Was pretty tough. But everyone has a choice. I think being part-time or casual is a better option. Unless you don't wanna show up in classes.

Hello Thank you for the video. I just want to ask when the registration done by Tafe with NMBA or APHRA for doing placements. Can we use that registration to do a job after completing a Diploma or else we need to apply for registration with APHRA after graduating.
Hi there! No you cant, that is not an actual registration for you as a qualified EN. It is done by education providers just for public safety reasons while you are undergoing your clinical placements. After graduation you need to apply for registration and pay the fees in order to be eligible to work as fully qualified EN.

I am still at school but i am thinking to leave school and study nursing at tafe
do we need to pass ILTS to get job?
You're welcome 😊 ILTS is only for those who immigrated to Australia from a none english speaking country. And they don't have any English studies here.
@@yana.miller I am in year 10 and i come from a non english speaking country in 2021.
do you think do i need ILTS? 🙏
hi thanks for this video it has helped inform me a lot! if you don't mind me asking, what campus did you study at? i want to commence studies for the July intake. i'm tossing between South Bank and Alex Hills campus.
thank you so much!! thanks again for taking the time to film these videos.
Does anyone know how is tafe sa and how many days college days
Did you have to prepare questions ?
I completed a lot of the classes in the diploma of nursing in USA already . I am to move to Australia to start my diploma of nursing. Is it possible to do some credit transfers so that I do not repeat those classes again.
Hi there! you will need to contact your course provider for that my friend. Here in Australia they recognise the units by their components and unique code. Not sure if they accept it as credit from overseas.
Can I get T.R in Australia if I take this course an an international student?? Please reply🙏
Amazing video! Just one question, are placements paid?
Thanks 😊 No. Hospitals do not pay you for your practice as a student.
Do l have to go on ILTS if l have certificate ll and lll in English? I live in Brisbane from 2014. Thank you!
I am an international student sooo after diploma of nursing can I work as enrolled nurse and continue with ma bachelor
Hi Yana,
I am going to do the first aid tomorrow , the teacher required to pre-read all the materials on CONNECT,which includes 200pages on the learner guide. I don’t think I can finish today, I would like to know what is the important part for the theory assessment. What should I pick to read first? I feel stress now. Thank you 🙏
Hey Stephanie. Just wondering. Do you also study the course at TAFE Southbank? I am currently in my first semester as well.

@@yana.miller Thanks yana, and can I ask which days did you have your diploma classes usually?

Where did you buy all the books from?
Hi! Some were gifted to me by other nurses, and others I bought via Facebook marketplace or opshops.
Thanks for the video
Do you think that someone can do full time student in nursing and working full time as well ?

Thanks, I watched your video.
Can you please name some topic of first semester? Thanks in advance.
@@hasinakargar6830 as a student who is currently studying or graduated, we are not allowed to disclose given topics for assessments online.
Ok, Thanks again.
How many months gap will we get to join uni after we graduate diploma? And thank you for such an informative video ❤️highly appreciated!and please tell me that if we can work outside during our placements ?
You are welcome 😊
My gap was from the end of November (23rd) till 17th of February. That's because I broke my last (semester 3) placement into two parts. Therefore, I finished earlier. I'll talk about semester 2 and 3 in my next video once I'm returned from my overseas trip 😊
Some students in my class had smaller gap cause their final placement was finished in the end of December, just before Christmas.
You best to check with TAFE at NSW my friend. Each state and course is different.

Was the literacy and numeracy test hard ?
Not really
Is there a difference between an endorsed enrolled nurse and an enrolled nurse?
And EN`s usually work under supervision of RN`s.
if i do diploma in nursing then do i have to do 3 year uni to become a RN?
Hi there, after diploma of nursing you will be offered to get a pathway to second year of Uni to complete your bachelor. This is if you are planning to commence on full-time study. If you choose a part-time, it will take longer. But basically Diploma gives you credit of about 8 units (depending on the uni) or in other words skip a first year of study if it makes sense.

You are best to talk to education provider directly or an agent. Best of luck!
Can you enroll directly in Diploma of Nursing without any certificates or experience?

Academic Requirements: Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent). Non school-leavers must have relevant work experience or qualification that indicates likely success of course completion.

I just did my first written assignment in nursing school and I thought I's at least get a high credit, an I got barely a pass, a grand total of 58.9/100... oh to my terror. its so discouraging cause I prepared for it, but I suppose that it just wasn't what the lecturer was looking for. the question covers a really broad spectrum and narrowing it down can be really tricky. and since I know nursing employment can be competitive..
can you provide some advice or discuss about this topic, please? thank you
It is possible to take this course while you are working part time?
I think it's gonna be hard physically. I remember during my diploma I was 3 days on campus and other 3 or even sometimes 4 remaining days of the week at work. That made me busy whole 6 or 7 days of the week. Was pretty tough. But everyone has a choice.
I think being part-time or casual is a better option.
Unless you don't wanna show up in classes.
@@yana.miller thank you for your answer! Im working part time but i have 3 months of holidays that i havent take in 3 years so i guess that will help me if i take this course yo have some days off
Hello Thank you for the video.
