The main problem with Ice Counters is that some cards (Cold Enchanter, Snowdust Giant) want to hold them, but others (Snowdust Dragon, Snowman Creator) want to spread them to the opponent to debuff them. This unfortunately means that trying to play IceCounter.dek results in actively sabotaging yourself if those cards are together. To that end, I'm baffled that we don't have something that interacts with counter-holders depending on what side of the field they're on. Example: Snowdust Chill Dragon (WATER/Dragon/Lv8/2800ATK/1800DEF) You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by removing 4 Ice Counters from anywhere on the field. Monsters with Ice Counters gain the following effects, depending on their controller: -If you control them: This monster gains 400 ATK for each Ice Counter on it. Once per turn, if this monster's Attribute is WATER, you can place 1 Ice Counter on a monster your opponent controls. -If your opponent controls them: This monster loses 400 ATK for each ice counter on it. If this monster's Attribute isn't WATER, its activated effects cannot be activated.
Ice Counter machine Field spell. If this card is activated: you can add 1 card from your deck to your hand that mentions “Ice Counters”. (Quick effect): if a card(s) with “Ice Counters” would leave the field; you can distribute any number of those “Ice Counters” to any face of WATER monster or continuous Spell/Trap card on the field (even if this card leaves the field). If a WATER Monster is Normal/special summon: place 1 “Ice Counter” on this card. You can only activate 1 “Ice Counter machine” once per turn.
"If this goes up on time, it will be _on_ Christmas!" Goes up at literally exactly midnight Dec 26 in my time zone Don't worry Nova, Christmas is all of December to me so you're still on time in my heart
I’d make it so you basically slowly freeze your opponent’s board. -Give the player the ability to put ice counters on face up and face down cards -Give certain cards, like continuous spells or traps, the ability to negate cards, stop monsters from attacking, or face down cards from flipping depending on how many ice counters are on them. -Give them passive negation, but don’t give Ice barriers the quick effect to negate.
I have an idea for an ice counter field spell. Spell name frozen land Effect: 1)If an monster is special summoned place Ice counter on it up to the number of ice counters on the material used for that special summon. 2)If an monster has 5 or more ice counters on it. It's unaffected by card effects But It's effects are negated. 3)Monster with 5 or more ice counter cannot attack or be targeted by attacks But don't prevent the opponent from attacking directly.
I'll admit I wasnt looking at my phone so I did chuckle at Blizzard Princess's oversized and brutal weapon compared to her small stature and cheerful demeanor when I looked over when Nova pointed it out Also I feel like if Counters for any strategy where the counters themselves don't do anything, then we're going to need a ROTA for counter generators. Counting Counters Continous Spell When this card is activated: you can add 1 monster from your Deck to your hand that adds has an effect that counters to cards on the field. You can remove any number of Counters from 1 card you control; add the same number of counters to this card. You can target 1 card on the field, remove any number of counters from this card; add the same number of counters to that target. You can remove 3 counters from this card; add 1 "Counter" card from your Deck to your hand. You can only control one type of counter while this card is on the field. Silly art idea, some villager or other monster counting Vampire monsters who are counting Sheep Tokens jumping over a fence as the sun begins to rise. Wording might be a little weird and off and that final restriction might actually make it see play as a Counter-counters card. The fourth effect mostly just searches Battlin Boxer traps and can be removed I just thought it was funny.
I used to use a lot of these cards back in the day, but if I could make new cards, I'd would make two spell cards. Frost bit, continuous spell, if a card with an ice counter on it is sent to the gy, inflict 500 damage to your opponent. Continuous spell, snowman manufacturing, you can special summon a water monster in your hand by sending the equal number of ice counters on the field as the level of the monster in your hand, once per turn.
lv4 and 8 pendulum monsters who allow moving counters around and when a ice counter monster is summoned they gain 1 ice counter that way more counters, more control and a way to bring out the others
My thought experiment on how to make ice counters work as a dedicated deck is leverage the fact that the negative effects only ever really need a light sprinkling of one counter on the monster while the positves that care about them piling up don't care on where they are, right now one way of playing on that is how Snowdust Dragon is immune to his own effect so he makes a great counter bank that won't freeze up unless you summon a second one. A good way to enhance that in support is more quick-effect ways to sprinkle counters and more limits they impose, like stopping a monster with it from being used as material and/or negates them thus turning quick counter generation into interruption. Also the MtG and Ozolyth reference made think why not have a similar continuous trap; when monsters with ice counters leave the field put counters on it equal to the counters they had. Then on a quick effect you can move those counters. It works as a bank for Enchanter and Giant to be battle treats, then becomes a disruptor with Dragon and any possible future cards with more control effects based on the counters
What we need are cards for giving semi-permanent effects to Ice Counters, for example: Freezing Strom Spell Card Place 1 Ice Counter on a face-up monster You can banish this card from your GY: Place 1 Ice Counter on a face-up monster While this card is banished, monsters with Ice Counters on them can be used as Tribute for a Tribute Summon of a Water monster by either player (Kept the base effects simple as the focus in the example is the effect while banished)
I think what the Ice Counter deck needs is a complete overhaul, where we get retrains of all the cards, that way they are more cohesive. But if Konami doesn't do that, this is what think can help the deck. Reign of Ice & Snow. Type: Field Spell. -when activated place 1 Ice Counter on all face-up cards that is on the field. During your main phase 1 you can put 1 I.C on this card (max of 10). for every I.C that is on the Field all of your face-up water monsters gain 200 Atk & Def, and if a Water monster would be destroyed, either by battle or card effect, you can remove 2 I.C from anywhere on the field instead. You can also remove 5 I.C from this card to Special Summon 1 Water monster from either your Hand or Deck. During the Battle Phase you can remove 2 I.C from this card then target 1 monster on the field then negate it's effects, and reduce its Atk & Def to 0 until the end of the turn. if feel like this 1 card could make the deck at least more playable. It gives you Ice Counters every turn, and allows you to use said counters for various means. -from destruction negation. -special summoning. -battle utility -and makes use of ALL ice counters on the field & that you can generate with other cards.
feel like the i.c generating effect can be changed to “if this card has less then 10 i.c on it, place i.c on it until it has 10”so there isnt the logistic of using this effect so many times each turn but yeh it needs an overhaul and considering the direction of the ice doll and pillar the whole ice counter mechanic itself can possible be scrapped in the overall and just changed into just water support or something with the more specific or powerful stuff being for water spellcaster specifically instead
Snap freeze, if your opponent activates a card effect from their hand, discsrd this card to negate that cards activation and place ice counters on all effect monsters your opponent controls. For the rest of the turn your opponent is unable to activate card effects. It's a play on the snap freezing process to preserve food or biological samples for scientific reasons, hence why it's doesn't destroy the card just negates the activation. Or you could slap it onto a monster with stats like ash and call it ice warden
I feel that the Glacial Beasts would feel right at home with these Ice Counter Monsters. As for an interesting Archetype to intertwine with them, I feel the Gishki could work considering how many spellcasters are among them to help activate Ice Queens ability.
Heres a flavor pick to try tying this stuff more thematically to anime Alexis Snowstorm Ritual Quickplay Spell Used to Ritual Summon “Snowstorm Angel” from your hand or GY. You must also Tribute monsters from either side of the field with Ice Counters whose total amount of Ice Counters equal the monsters level. You can banish this card from your hand or GY and destroy a monster you control or in your hand; place Ice Counters on monsters on either side of the field equal to that destroyed monster’s level. Snowstorm Angel Lvl 4 Water Spellcaster Ritual 2400/1000 Must be Ritual Summoned with “Snowstorm Ritual”. Gains 200 ATK for every Ice Counter on the field. Monsters you control with Ice Counters are unaffected by monster effects, except their own. This monster can attack every monster your opponent controls with an Ice Counter, once each. Okay, here goes. Mistress of Ice Lvl 8 Water Spellcaster 3000 ATK 2500 DEF You can only use the (2) Effect of "Mistress of Ice" once per Duel 1 You can Specialsummon this Card from your Hand or Graveyard by shuffling up to 10 (mimimum 2) WATER Monsers with different Names from your Graveyard and/or Banishment into your Deck. 2 If this Card is summoned, (Quick Effect) target up to all unoccupied Monster and Spell & Trapcardzones on the Field, until your Opponents next Main Phase 2, the targeted Zones can not be used. 3 If a Monster(s) with an Ice Counter(s) is destroyed, place Ice Counters on this Card, equal to the Amount the Destroyed Monster had. 4 In each End Phase, (Quick Effect) you can distribute all Ice Counters on this Card onto Face up Cards your Opponent Controls. 5 If a Lvl 4 or lower WATER Monster is special Summoned, you can add 1 "Polymerisation" or "Ice" Ritual Spellcard from your Deck or Graveyard to your Hand, but you can only specialsummon WATER Monsters for the rest of the Duel. If i where to design an Artwork for this, i would try to make something that would be to Alexis, what "DMG" is to Mana. Oh, and the Poly search could be swapped for an Archetypal one of Course
Icebound Snowplains Field Spell If this card is activated: you can add 1 card from your deck to your hand that mentions Ice Counters, except "Icebound Snowplains". You can only use this effect of "Icebound Snowplains" once per turn. Monsters you control with Ice Counters on them gain 500 ATK. Monsters your opponent controls with Ice Counters on them cannot attack, cannot change their battle positions, and their effects cannot be activated. If you or an opponent Normal or Special Summons a FIRE monster, destroy this card. Not a hundred% sure of the last line, but I felt if I didn't put in some sort of weakness the card would be WAY too oppressive.
What's funny is that I just made Ice Counter stuff last night. XD *EDIT* To contrast Alexis' Cyber Angels, I feel like Ice counters should lean into a control strategy, freezing the opponent in their tracks.

I've made an ice counter deck. Maybe won 2 out of 10 duels due to how slow the deck plays with setup. Luck plays a huge part in this deck's consistency. Field spell that places ice counters on opponents face up monsters each turn could help.
Honestly, this needs a Tenpai Level field spell. Snowstorm [Spell/Field] This card is unaffected by other effects during the Main Phase. Any Ice Counters that would leave the field are instead moved to this card. If an Ice Counter is on this card you can move it to any face-up monster card on the field. An Ice Counter on this card can be used as tributes for any WATER monster effects, or the tribute summon of a WATER monster. Nice and powerful, but not to powerful (mostly because the rest of the archetype isn't to powerful). Requires that you actually get the snowball rolling before it is extremely effective. Partially get around the awkwardness ness of wanting counters on both sides. I don't imagine it would be to much of an issue in other water decks with the whole needing to run a critical mass of Ice Counter Cards for this to do what it does, and finally should allow for it to more easily go into an XYZ direction if that is they way they want to go with it.
Maybe add a fusion aspect? Like, throwing in some fusion spell that treats the opponent's monsters as any fusion material required for some "Ice Empire" Extra Deck-only archetype for the theme that uses some of the original monsters as materials? Oh, and don't forget the Super Poly-aspect of using those iced monsters as your own for the fusion.
nope, ice counter actually has an anti fusion card within the series in cold fusion/fusion freezing (manga only) that works like de-fusion whilst also spreading ice counters so having an actual fusion go against the spirit of them
Absolute Zero Barrier [Field Spell] All WATER Monsters with Ice Counter on the field cannot be destroyed by card effects, also all Non-WATER Monsters with Ice Counter on the field cannot attack and lose 500 ATK. Your “Snowdust Dragon(s)” gains 500 ATK for each monster you control with Ice Counter, and can attack a number of times each Battle Phase, up to the number of monsters you control with Ice Counter. Once per turn: You can destroy 1 other card you control or in your hand, and if you do, add from your Deck to your Hand, 1 “Snowdust Dragon” or 1 card that has an effect that places Ice Counter(s). . I create this card based on what I learn from their manga, and I write "Snowdust Dragon" name here because it cannot place Ice counter. I know I can use word like "Mentions Ice counter" or something like that. But cannot find an effect that mention a Counter for now. The closest example for this is A-Counter. The "destroy other cards" is useful to trigger "Snow Dragon" and manga card "Blizzard Wall". From my perspective, current "Ice Counter" cards aren't really bad. They just need some push to make them playable.
I just find it so funny how theirs a card named ice barrier thats not part of ice barriers. What's next a card named Blue -Eyes thats meant to be Odd Eyes support.
9:06 Spell Counters aren't the only counters that require cards with an effect to place counters on. Vaalmonica's Resonance Counters unfortunately work the same way. Plus any card with an effect to place counters on only itself loses its counters on negation, such as Black-Winged Dragon.
Honestly if mathemech circular wasn't banned, I'd say I would be waiting on a genuinely good (or at least competent) counter based strategy. And not like predaplants where its just an after thought, or spell counters where they transcend the original design. No I want a real honest counter strategy, which uses them as a core function.
I was thinking that a legendary ocean would be a pretty good card to tech to the deck Since most of their good cards needs sacrifices and tributes when I use the card that makes water monsters cost one less
Anyone else saw snow dragon from duel log video on worst water cards but aside from that I like the idea of them being a type changing effect similar to predas but I’m more down for retrains instead of new support but ice counter effect to change attributes to minority gum up the system of your opponents and make ice counter cards but I like to try and bridge ice counter and ice barrier a sort of tech together ice counter cards help swarm pitch a card like snow dragon in hand like what dinosaur that destroy cards in hand to activate snow dragon or a two send to Activates graveyard effect to of a new card a yukionna monster to special summon self for a free body or a yeti that can special summon it self and spread ice counters to make summoning the other cards even have a search effect to add a “ice” card or ice counter text from hand but blizzard princess and the queen has no ice counter effect but ice queen having a predapower effect could work as a retrain and a new blizzard princess card as a ritual you can quick play ritual summon by using 3 monsters with ice counters on field one you can use 2 from your opponent board if there water attribute
One last thing a trap that like a blanket of snow infinite imper trap that has 3 effect up to the number of ice counter one all monsters become water attribute 2 attack cut in half 3 all effects are negated also has a graveyard effect to activate again usual banish to active again
Field or Continuous spell that that adds ice counter's to itself and stops opponents cards attacking+negate effect's off they have ice counter's on them with perhaps that lose 300atk for each counter this card controller has. Nothing special but still cool
Golden Nova, Golden Nova... I am going to halt you on the Snowdust Dragon bit for a second... The reason why this doesn't have Mega Monarch Stats is probably because of two things. One: They probably didn't had that in mind. And two: Mobius the Mega Monarch is pretty bad so they probably wanted Ice Counters to do nothing with it.
Example:
Snowdust Chill Dragon (WATER/Dragon/Lv8/2800ATK/1800DEF)
You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by removing 4 Ice Counters from anywhere on the field. Monsters with Ice Counters gain the following effects, depending on their controller:
-If you control them: This monster gains 400 ATK for each Ice Counter on it.
Ice Counter machine
Field spell.
WE GOT THE CHRISTMAS EPISODE!!!
"If this goes up on time, it will be _on_ Christmas!"
Goes up at literally exactly midnight Dec 26 in my time zone
Don't worry Nova, Christmas is all of December to me so you're still on time in my heart
I’d make it so you basically slowly freeze your opponent’s board.
-Give the player the ability to put ice counters on face up and face down cards
-Give certain cards, like continuous spells or traps, the ability to negate cards, stop monsters from attacking, or face down cards from flipping depending on how many ice counters are on them.
-Give them passive negation, but don’t give Ice barriers the quick effect to negate.
I have an idea for an ice counter field spell.
Spell name frozen land
Effect:
1)If an monster is special summoned place Ice counter on it up to the number of ice counters on the material used for that special summon.
2)If an monster has 5 or more ice counters on it. It's unaffected by card effects But It's effects are negated.
3)Monster with 5 or more ice counter cannot attack or be targeted by attacks But don't prevent the opponent from attacking directly.
I'll admit I wasnt looking at my phone so I did chuckle at Blizzard Princess's oversized and brutal weapon compared to her small stature and cheerful demeanor when I looked over when Nova pointed it out
Also I feel like if Counters for any strategy where the counters themselves don't do anything, then we're going to need a ROTA for counter generators.
Counting Counters
Continous Spell
When this card is activated: you can add 1 monster from your Deck to your hand that adds has an effect that counters to cards on the field.
Continuous spell, snowman manufacturing, you can special summon a water monster in your hand by sending the equal number of ice counters on the field as the level of the monster in your hand, once per turn.
If we could move the ice counters around like the spell counters, we'd be onto a start.
lv4 and 8 pendulum monsters who allow moving counters around and when a ice counter monster is summoned they gain 1 ice counter
that way more counters, more control and a way to bring out the others
My thought experiment on how to make ice counters work as a dedicated deck is leverage the fact that the negative effects only ever really need a light sprinkling of one counter on the monster while the positves that care about them piling up don't care on where they are, right now one way of playing on that is how Snowdust Dragon is immune to his own effect so he makes a great counter bank that won't freeze up unless you summon a second one.

bastion's zombies and chazz's dragons are built different

Normal Trap

Cold Fusion
Counter Trap
Target 1 Fusion Monster your opponent controls; destroy it, and if you do, Special Summon, from your opponent's Graveyard to their side of the field, all Fusion Materials listed on that Fusion Monster used for its Fusion Summon. Place 1 Ice Counter on each monster that was Special Summoned this way.
(Monsters with Ice Counters cannot change their position.)
Snowstorm [Spell/Field]
This card is unaffected by other effects during the Main Phase.
Negation. You’re not standing a chance against the meta if you don’t have any way of stopping your opponent’s effects
Maybe add a fusion aspect? Like, throwing in some fusion spell that treats the opponent's monsters as any fusion material required for some "Ice Empire" Extra Deck-only archetype for the theme that uses some of the original monsters as materials? Oh, and don't forget the Super Poly-aspect of using those iced monsters as your own for the fusion.
nope, ice counter actually has an anti fusion card within the series in cold fusion/fusion freezing (manga only) that works like de-fusion whilst also spreading ice counters so having an actual fusion go against the spirit of them
Made it on time in my area on Christmas (Wednesday December 25th, 2024)
Absolute Zero Barrier
[Field Spell]
All WATER Monsters with Ice Counter on the field cannot be destroyed by card effects, also all Non-WATER Monsters with Ice Counter on the field cannot attack and lose 500 ATK.
WHADYAMEAN THE ICE BARRIER TRAP HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ICE BARRIER ARCHETYPE?!?!
Yeah it existed in the manga before Ice Barrier cards were made and then printed after the Ice Barrier Structure Deck just to confuse us all
however, general wayne of the ice barrier can search it because it searches any ice barrier spell or trap
A citadel of endymion like field spell and an interaction with Cold Wave that produces ice counters
Wouldn't it be fun if gave the card set of "Asuka Tenjouin" to her friend "Junko Makurada"&"Momoe Hamaguchi"?
I just find it so funny how theirs a card named ice barrier thats not part of ice barriers. What's next a card named Blue -Eyes thats meant to be Odd Eyes support.
9:06 Spell Counters aren't the only counters that require cards with an effect to place counters on. Vaalmonica's Resonance Counters unfortunately work the same way. Plus any card with an effect to place counters on only itself loses its counters on negation, such as Black-Winged Dragon.
Snow/Ice Counter Dream Theme!
Didn't Alexis/Asuka also use a few ice monsters in the anime? When she was under Satorius/Saitou's control?
I was thinking that a legendary ocean would be a pretty good card to tech to the deck Since most of their good cards needs sacrifices and tributes when I use the card that makes water monsters cost one less
interesting that one of them is an Xyz and that was not even a mechanic back when GX was coming out
Didn't know that Ice Doll was an Alexis card.
Well now this is an obscure one
Hope you're having a good day
Combine them with Glacial Beasts you get a little more speed
Happy Holidays Gamers
YEA THRUMMINGBIRD MENTIONED!
Tbh, I love ice master
Jack frost must be nipping on this video. ❄️
Field or Continuous spell that that adds ice counter's to itself and stops opponents cards attacking+negate effect's off they have ice counter's on them with perhaps that lose 300atk for each counter this card controller has. Nothing special but still cool
Gosh nova barely making it on Christmas for me, and I just lose with this deck on Master duel today too 😹
Golden Nova, Golden Nova...
Chrimas fish
NNNOOOOO!!!!!!!
