Was riding down Old Tampines Road when I heard a loud crash sound in front of me, and saw the BMW SUV rear ended the Audi sedan. the Toyota van followed behind when the second loud bang occurred. The Audi sedan driver had opened the car door at the same time as the Toyota van overtook and both vehicles took damage
Posting in case driver/s need footage for claim/s, and awareness.
Let's all ignore the fact that the van just moved off like nothing happen and missing a side mirror.

More like he thought it was his own fault and ran away from the scene. Audi driver got “lucky” that the van driver didn’t fully know traffic laws.
Opening the car door without first checking for any traffic is the fault. This is a known issue even in legal claims. The van can even claim for the broken side mirror.
The outcome could have been worse, if a motorcyclist or cyclist rode into the opened door!
I was actually the cambike and I was horrified. If I overtook the audi 2 or 3 seconds late then I would have kena as well 😬 After reviewing the footage saw how lucky I was
Yup the guy opening the door is wrong but I felt like the van shouldn’t overtake and should have waited for those two cars to move off since the route he took was also going against traffic hope the van learns it lesson and the fella who open the door should have check upon opening

The speed of "throwing" opening of the door was very fast! Could have been tragic if other 'unlucky' motorcycles...
I actually broke out in laughter at that door bang. I hope he learned from the mistake to check behind before opening the door.

the reason van kept so near was because the bus is there, so why rush to cut infront when the right side is not cleared?
If you need open the car door the trick is open slightly first and then have a peep if there are any vehicles overtaking before fully open when coast is clear.

I once hit a Benz rear door opened by a youngster when I was trying to move into the taxi stand.
Only the door mirror got ripped off and it cost $600 back then.
Fortunately, the electrical control still worked ok. The driver paid $200+ for the replacement.
NEVER open your car door before checking the road is clear. Otherwise, $$$ fly away.

GBB 5806 is inexperienced driver. Seeing the accident should guess that driver going to alight and give 2 metre clearance. Car driver also wrong, distracted by rear knock, so didnt check door before opening.

The duty of care lies with the one opening any vehicle door. So the van does not need to stop if he does want want compensation from the Audi driver.

The van cross the white line to pass the accident, that's fine if there's space in front of the accident.
What happened was, the van stop (because red light) next to vehicle in front of the accident, creating illegal lane. (double vehicle on a single lane road)
Moreover there's a bus stopped on the other way, so the van makes the available road narrow.
Depending on the traffic light arrangements, the van is blocking traffic that supposed to use that narrowed road.
Thus the van creating hazard situation.
Imo the van isn't innocent.

This just shows a collection of awful drivers. The Audi driver is the least at fault in my opinion. The van driver is 100% at fault for the damage to the Audi. The van overtakes across a continuous white line after seeing the incident with the two cars in front. He also fails to overtake at a safe distance (i.e. he does not allow room for the audi to open his door, although it was an inevitable action). That was a bizarre move, partly because the truck in front of the Audi has not yet moved away. The van driver shows impatience, breaks traffic laws, and would be liable for the damage.

Based on the footage, I think Audi may be absolved from paying any damages. BMW got no say tailgating hence bump into Audi. As for the van, it attempted to over take on a single lane and going into on coming traffic lane. This may go in favour of Audi again depending on how strong he makes the case to his insurer.
Over taking due to other's accident is OkiEE, if cannot over take since a single lane, that means the whole road behind will jam till the Audi m Bmw move off
@@raykangcsI do understand in an accident one usually needs to overtake if the scene of accident is blocking your way but however, one must overtake carefully. The van overtook immediately after the accident without giving due consideration that the driver of the respective cars that got involved in the accident will exit. Not to mention, the van driver was driving rather fast when attempting to overtake. It seemed there wasn't much awareness or consideration on the van driver's part. Normal mentality - me first, I suppose. In the end, accident first. Worst case scenario, the van driver could have ploughed into the driver exiting either the BMW or Audi. Good luck to all 3 of them.

Even if you still stubbornly think the van is wrong, I cant help you. But I can tell you the van can claim for his side mirror 100% for sure.
And pls think more since u like to think so much. What if the audi open the door this way earlier and hit the cambike? U wouldnt have said all these alrdy lol. U just look at the way the audi open the door. Driving sch taught us to always check. Plus he has the duty of care to check as he has alrdy taken the whole single lane. (Law of negligence)
You can also see from the audi guy reaction. He wanted to scold the van at first but after that say sorry cos he realise the van did nth wrong to overtake and problem was he never check before opening the door.

The van is wrong to go against traffic in a single lane road.
The driver of the van had the right to go in a single lane because he thought there got something happen as you can clearly see the car infront of the van bum onto another vehicle. Same logic as you are a driver you cant drive straight as you witness an accident so to keep the traffic ongoing you have no other choice but to go around it.
