@dagmarabiernat2783 it's not finished. The mangaka has health problems. So she only releases a new chapter every 4 months. But it's so good and worth the suffering.❤
I havent seen OP at all, but I think this design would step on the toes of other characters fitting the "battle oriented" role, Nami gives me more trickster vibes than someone who will punch you really hard
yeah. id like a woman with the same vibes as this design for sure, but nami just isn’t that person. honestly, her fights are some of my favourites bc of how not battle-oriented she is lol
Oh I absolutely love any type of concept art, it really shows personality to a character, and just helps us know what direction the character could have originally been going in
It wouldn’t make sense for Nami to have an axe with the role she plays in the Strawhats, as more of the intelligent trickster, who isn’t fighter oriented makes he one of the only characters in the Strawhats that can relate to Usopp, but I do wish Nami had this design minus the axe, it would’ve been so cool and went well how she tends to tinker and invent things so having a robotic arm would’ve been so interesting
I like how both Nami and Sakura both seemed to have started with them both having really big axes and the author's changed their minds.... It was an era where the idea of a little girl having a huge weapon was popular....
i love the current design (since it’s a lil more subtle fits in the theme of pirates fits her character yada yada ya) but those ASYMMETRICAL PANTS? HAS ME IN A CHOKEHOLD MAN
I like the final version more, Nami's weather powers are more linked to her character development. Nami alone had a staff and was mostly self-serving. She made friends and Ussop with his limited skills made a staff with magic tricks . They broaden their horizons and get better technology and skills and bonds as a Pirate crew.
The climatact is too unique for me ever wanting her using another weapon. Its made for Nami and using it with Zeus makes some fantastic panels Keeping the arm tho wouldve been so cool
If someday there will be a time travel I want you guys to make Nami from this splash art real (we all know her fight-scenes suck, this will make her even better)
For me i just cant imagine a nami like this crying for luffys help, if nami would have looked like this arlong is going to be the one asking for luffy's help
the original design also looks like bulma and kinda makes sense because they both technically navigate something and oda does gets inspiration from dragonball
it is interesting to see that the 'science fiction' aspects were in the planning stages, but somewhere along the line Oda decided to push those back until after The East Blue to make The East Blue itself look more simple compared to the Grand Line.
i think the design change probably came from making her a thief making her attack style probably more subtle. i feel like designing fun looking characters always gives a nice jumping off point but then theory crafting personality and where they fit in the world or story points really help a character emerge and take on the aspects that would suit that so you end up keeping bits of both or a completely new character. sometimes 1 character even ends up as 2 because of plot points.
I haven't watched One Piece, but holy shit this design is absolutely fucking amazing I wish they had gone with that, although it's understandable why they didn't
Only Barret. From the Final Fantasy series. Is the only character, to have a prosthetic arm. Yuffie, Tidus, and many characters. Are actually wearing arm gauntlets. It makes it look like they are missing an arm. Technically not really. Shin Megami Tensei does this with the protagonist of Digital Devil Story Megami Tensei II. Where he receives a prosthetic arm later in the second half of the game. Also, one of the only characters to lose a body part.
I like it, but I can't see it fitting with who Nami is at all. She looks like a rough barbarian warrior, not the crafty "cat burglar" she actually is. But it does look very cool
I love the concept art and I secretly hope that this design could be reworked into another One Piece character someday. However, it makes sense why Oda didn't use this design considering how he paced the world building. IMO, considering the fact we meet her near the beginning, her having a super lifting robo arm + giant axe (still undeniably cool 😎) would have been too distracting in the early parts of the Pirate adventure. Additionally, Frankie's whole bit is being the SUPER bionically engineered man and he holds that role well enough on his own.
I think it's also because you already have Franky. Maybe this was before Franky was thought out, but after coming up with him Oda decided ut was too redundant. This design seems to imply Nami would have had a similar role. Idk how Oda's process worked, but since luffy states early on saying he want's 10 members in his crew and many authors start limiting their amount of characters to avoid getting out of hand maybe he wanted to make 10 and they ended up too repetitive. This design is fire tho
I really liked the idea but I also don’t think it would have worked with the personality we got. But I wish he would have reused some of the aspects with other female characters
Honestly I like nami how she is right now and I think the main reason she doesent look like that is that she probably wouldn’t have needed Luffy as desperately or at all to beat Arlong so they wouldn’t have had one of the main characters or one of the most important moments. In fact, we probably wouldn’t have seen Nami at all as she would have killed Arlong and wouldn’t need to buy back her village.😊
I think the only reason it wouldn’t work is just, there really needs to be weaker characters on board to balance them out. I imagine it’s already hard enough to have a constant revolving of side characters along with (until jimbei) a growing of main characters as well. Giving them all unique personality’s reasons to be there, and even just as simple as an equal amount of dialogue. So I think it was for the best for the show and her character to not be simply another brute force character, and that In itself always makes me mad about characters like brook or chopper, they’re obvi there to round out the cast of “weaker” character and kinda for cute or comedy moments. But they’re both quite strong in their own right and are under utilized to me specifically chopper.
I'd love a stronger Nami and the automail arm (doing that would be easier than doing a full body robot of Frankie, so the time saving argument doesn't stand btw), but I think this design would need a whole different personality/character arch. Also I really love Nami's weather staff, it's unique and shows off her intelligence, and only she can use it because she has extensive knowledge of weather which is very beneficial to sailing/her navigation. Would love it if there were more stronger/heavy hitter type women in the series though.
Oda can no longer draw women that aren’t specifically a very round and fat or extremely skinny with big boobs. Those are like the only two body types we’re gonna get until the end of One Piece. He refuses to draw anything else😭
@@solarmoth4628 it sucks, I like having figurines of my favorite characters but the one piece women figurines mostly just look like something a perv would have, I got a couple and my family was hardcore judging me, and I'm a woman myself T-T
ngl I would've loved to see the original idea of Naruto than what we got, no Saskue, Naruto IS Kurama, and it takes place in a modern city. And before you say anything about me not wanting saskue I just dont like the idea of the need for a rival. I think that naruto not having anyone rooting for him is enough for him to achieve what he did.
I'm sorry but i love the way the current Nami is, both her role, her character design and her inventory are already perfect for me... Like we already have so many physically strong women characters in one piece and anime media in general, not saying it's a bad thing but it'd be hard to make a female character who is physically strong without her being generic...
It looks cool, but i am really glad that oda didnt go that route with nami. Nami isn't meant to be a brawler type of character. She is a cunning and cautious type. i loved the character development that she experienced, going from weak and scared with Usopp and chopper to developing her skills and becoming a badass! This is another reason why i am not a fan of the live action portrayal-- they didnt leave Nami with enough room to grow as a person because she just started off as a badass
Its doesn't really fit that well with her characters, and having TWO prosthetic Ace hand character in the first few chapter would be a bit too much, that's probably why it was changed
I think I'm in love with characters that have one arm either robotic, or other kind of difrend from the rest of their body
FRRR Yuffie, Edward Elric, Anakin Skywalker, Jet from Cowboy Bebop, Violet Evergarden, I COULD GO ON
Or you have an amputee fetish💀
Allen Walker from D.Gray-Man! 😁
Speaking of which, I really need to finish it 🤔😅

@@longingmeow there is plot induced stupidity but it's fun
Nami had this cat burglar thing going on at first but eventually she’s basically a random side character who’s great at navigating
I'm more impressed with the less exaggerated proportions tbh. Her waist looks big enough for internal organs :0
That's just how his older art style looks like but I think the anime exaggerated it more.
I love cyborg Nami but I honestly think her climatacts are much cooler and fit her navigator role.
I absolutely adore this design I think it makes nami’s character designa little cooler
If this design was chosen by oda I think arlong park arc wouldn’t exist which was pretty important arc for the development of fishman island arc
This, Arlong Park was where I absolutely started loving One Piece with how surprisingly deep/emotional it can be.
On the one hand, it looks so cool. On the other hand, I like how Nami looks as she is right now.
No, the other hand is a robotic looking arm

I want that outfit to appear in the movies where they really go crazy with the clothes
Omg, i woulda loved nami likes this.
THAT SHIT LOOKS FIRE!!!
Can you cover the original Tanjiro design
Looking at nami's concept compared to her current design... oh how i mourn
I'm always a fan of a small cute character with a huge brutal weapon, so I woulda loved that version of Nami
No, i want a full manga of nami looking like this, that's a look that comes with a spotlight, i wan her full story about it
i think they should of kept it similar but like you said not to final fantasy
ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? THIS DESIGN IS A KEEPER 🔥🔥
I used this concept for a one-piece themed dnd session.
I think they scrapped it because the axe would've made her look more like more of a fighter than she actually is
For me i just cant imagine a nami like this crying for luffys help, if nami would have looked like this arlong is going to be the one asking for luffy's help
I quite like the old design, it looks super badass, and it would be interesting to see a character wield a giant axe
the original design also looks like bulma and kinda makes sense because they both technically navigate something and oda does gets inspiration from dragonball
Oda prolly needed Nami to be a weakling just to be protected by the crew. That design makes her a strong character.
Drawing this detailed metal arm in a weekly manga?
Extremely hard, especialy since One piece is the author's first manga series
it is interesting to see that the 'science fiction' aspects were in the planning stages, but somewhere along the line Oda decided to push those back until after The East Blue to make The East Blue itself look more simple compared to the Grand Line.

They could totally use that design for a Nami from an alternate reality.
Carrying around a giant axe probably clashed with the idea of a nimble cat burglar of early Nami design. Axe Hand Morgan where the ideas got pushed to
Imagine nami's happiness punch 💀💀💀
I prefer the final direction of Nami's character but it does look cool asf
Yes they should have cabbage rock look
If this was added nami would protect ussop fr 🙏😭💀
Fun fact: the non symmetrical pants from the original design for nami were used for live action Nami’s design.

KEEP THE PROSTHESIS, otherwise I guess current design is good. It would also be really cool to see an storm infused axe.
I think the arm makes it more Full Metal Alchemist then Final Fantasy.
That Nami design looks like it could thrash Arlong... so maybe that's why.
i wonder if she has the robotic arm because she cut the previous one off instead of getting a new tattoo lol
Better see Tanjiro's 😂😂
It’s the Tidus stand with sword recreated
It is a really cool design, but she would have been a totally different character, so I can't say I prefer it.
I really like the look but it was probably dropped cause they took nami's character in another direction. AKA: a lover not a fighter.

GIVE HER THE AXE BACK AT LEAST
Oda recycled that design for a member of the Giant Pirate crew.
He should have tweaked it , that way we wouldn't get Nami (strength wise) being the weakest of the weak trio
The design is peak but yeah it just wouldnt work
They should have reused it

Its doesn't really fit that well with her characters, and having TWO prosthetic Ace hand character in the first few chapter would be a bit too much, that's probably why it was changed
