I'm currently a high school student, and my English teacher (who is the greatest teacher I've ever had) played this for us in class when we were reading the book!
Great job guys !!! Today we were watching the whole video on class and you made my day !!!!! The best Shakespeare class ever ! I still can't stop smiling !!! :))) :*
i watched this today in english, and i swear my entire class died laffing. i was even laffing into the next period... still laffing. that was like five hours ago...
Quite Brilliant! A Dramatic Tragedy into Extrodinary Comedy :D This never gets old! "And where in a scheme of timeless romance, he will try to get into Juliet's pants!"
they have ppl backstage with all the clothes ready kinda like an assembly line. . .also they have some of the clothes on underneath though it may by small it still helps things go quicker
Im doing Romeo and Juliet for my high school play and I'm playing juilet and Im a year 9 so I got the lead and Im so excited and happy that I got it but I have to kiss a boy lol
Oh my god this is so funny!!! When I saw this in English I couldn't stop laughing! By the end of the second part mine and my friend's face was brick red from laughing so hard! Great job you guys!
This is my favorite part of the video! I love these guys! I used to own this, now I don't which is sad...but now I can watch it here! Long live Reduced Shakespeare Company!
To those who wonder why Austin did not play a part other than narrator, you should know that the original Reduced Shakespeare Co., Adam (Juliet) and another guy did this from 1981 to 1986 or so as a duo. Hamlet too. Often on street corners, which tended to confuse passers-by ...
my school did this, and when he said "call me but love and I shall be new baptised henceforth I'll never be Romeo" they went into this whole thing about buttlove it was awesome lmfao. but this is amazing love this production with all my heart
Ahaha. I love this. And it actually makes alot more sense to me after actually reading the play and watching the movie of it (we had to in my english class)
"romeo, oh romeo, where for art thou romeo, deny my father and refuse thy name or if thy wilt not be but sworn my love then i will not be a capulet... ok, whats in a name anyway? that which we call a nose by another name could still smell romeo would oh romeo doth thy name and for thy name which is no part of thee take all myself" my FAVEORITE part!!!! (dont yell art me if i spelled stuffs wrong)
I was the only one too, that actually understood the prolouge, besides my teacher, I had to wait because we did a thing were we wrote down on paper what it actually means. I already wrote it out and starting reading the book. Then she asked who has read it before and understands it, I was the only one who raised my hand.
I'm a little less than amused that Austin, the third guy, didn't participate in the actual "acting" portion of it. If he had, than every major character in Romeo and Juliet could have been portrayed. Austin could have played Mercutio, Lord Capulet, and the Apothecary. They are semi-important roles in R and J, an dI'm not happy that they were left out here. Oh well.
@GabbyGrapist My senior lit teacher showed us this out of nowhere. He was like "Hey, who wants to watch some good ol' SHAKESPEARE?" We had no idea what was in store... What made it funnier was that this particular teacher also wore Converse every single day and was famous for it XD
Actually, they're wearing converse to be more comedic, although they do help with all the action. My highschool did this last spring and the stage directions said to wear converse or some other sort of tennis shoe, whatever we deemed more hilarious.
@Vipmb1 "you capulet shall go along with me" capulets and montegues were the two houses or romeo and juliet, their familys hated each other but romeo and juliet loved each other. hence the problem. =D did i clear anything up??
...and so much for act one. (applause) It wasn't very good. And now Act 2 to the Capulet's banquet where Romeo is deemed to meet his Juliet And where in a scene of timeless romance He'll try to get into Juliet's pants.
haha i WATCHED THIS in my lit class today it was the funniest thing ever! since well we are freshman haha anyways this is super funny and if you live around NJ AND NY they are gonna be around during JULY 2008
me and my friend got kiccked out of our english class last yearr cuz we got up and started "reenacting" it. we got suspended cuz i shot my big mouth off and was yelllin at the principle.. hahaa
They're wearing converse because they need shoes that will stay on even with all their running around, but sneakers or tennis shoes are too bulky. Personally, I think it makes everything funnier. xD
All my friends know I have a good sense of humour. I just didn't think this was funny. I'm not against sending up Shakespeare, but I just thought this was dumb. But each to her/his own, of course!
Had Shakespeare been from West Virginia this is how the balcony scene might have gone. Juliet: Romeo Romeo where for art thou Romeo? Romeo: I'm down here in the bushes takin a piss!
@HappinessGuano That's what I thought! But I think the "butt love" thing might only be in the revised version... It's hilarious though... "You want me to call you butt love?"
I do like that Shakespeare explains everything interesting in the play in the prologue. you could never do that in a modern story because of all the critical emphasis on "suspense."
My mom's friend did a performance of this in college and when romeo says "Call me but love..." the guy playing Juliet harassed him by saying "you said Butt-love! butt-love!"
i was reading this book in class and had to say "good morrow cuz"......i said it exactly like this haha it was embarrassing since everyone looked at me weird
Best part of Romeo's costume is the Converse shoes
This should be mandatory viewing material for any English class studying Romeo and Juliet.
+Selective Pontification funny thing, i learn about this because of my english teacher.
I'm currently a high school student, and my English teacher (who is the greatest teacher I've ever had) played this for us in class when we were reading the book!

there used to be... but youtube changed the way they store the video's and i've yet to figure out how to download them.
were doing this at my school, with 16 people. one part that i play is benvolio! i can't wait till we get the dummy
So I was doing a Shakespeare class and we used this script taking out the extremely inappropriate parts and editing a bit 😂😂

And how did that go?
My English class saw this it was awesome and everyone had a good laugh and ya mr.brysee is awesome
I memorized the entire RSC version of romeo and juliet with two friends and we did it for our shakespeare project....IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!
my very immature class laughed throughout the whole thing just because of the "loins" thing at the start. :)
I love how their wearing converse XD
The DVD brings much laughter - and glad I bought it - and got it signed!
Genius and fun, to boot.
I love this so much! Hilarious and makes it so easy to understand! Can't wait to see more from these very talented actors.
OMG! We watched this in class and we laughed so much I had tears down my eyes! Best class ever!!!!!! :D
"I don't wanna kiss you, man."
"It's in the script."
A single prop makes the show: the Converse sneakers
"Look, I don't wanna kiss you man!" "But it's in the script!" *CHEAP SHOT*

=D
This would totally be done by the Awesome trio or Bad Friends trio (both of Hetalia ).XD
YES
IT WOULD!!!
lol oh i am slain! ("Walks off stage casually")
@hpfangirl721 Actually, the actor John Lithgow played Farquad, and he's not with this company
my school did this, and when he said "call me but love and I shall be new baptised henceforth I'll never be Romeo" they went into this whole thing about buttlove it was awesome lmfao. but this is amazing love this production with all my heart

...That which we call a nose can still smell... roflmao!!!!
haha! we saw this in English class a few weeks ago while reading Hamlet. This made the book so much more bearable.
Three guys did this at my friend's acting camp. they had spoofs after it was over and this was one. it was funny.
When and where was this filmed??? I think my grandma is in the audience!
"romeo, oh romeo, where for art thou romeo, deny my father and refuse thy name or if thy wilt not be but sworn my love then i will not be a capulet... ok, whats in a name anyway? that which we call a nose by another name could still smell romeo would oh romeo doth thy name and for thy name which is no part of thee take all myself"

and I bet the teacher was a fellow RSC hater.
its comedy. its supposed to be fun and enjoyable.
Actually, they're wearing converse to be more comedic, although they do help with all the action.

And now Act 2 to the Capulet's banquet
where Romeo is deemed to meet his Juliet
And where in a scene of timeless romance
He'll try to get into Juliet's pants.
haha i WATCHED THIS in my lit class today it was the funniest thing ever! since well we are freshman haha anyways this is super funny and if you live around NJ AND NY they are gonna be around during JULY 2008
i actually enjoyed this more than the Juliann Fellows version
me and my friend got kiccked out of our english class last yearr cuz we got up and started "reenacting" it. we got suspended cuz i shot my big mouth off and was yelllin at the principle.. hahaa
