I think repelling ceadeus also put the monster hunter guild's cannon philosophy about living in harmony with nature into the gameplay. You help the sea dragon with its pain and send it away without killing it, no lasting harm was done to either party. To me it really exemplifies what the guilds message means more than all the elder dragon culling in the other games.

to add with the Music of Ceadeus battle phase, its sung in a Bulgarian folklore choir style. Which was used in the Ghost in the Shell movie intro as well. this particular style of vocal arrangement really highlights the ancient, mysterious and beyond human aspect to the subject which fits really well with Ceadeus, because you get the feeling that, his existence precedes human time. a grand majestic creature who ,in happenstance, caused the settlers disturbances, but not in a predatory instinct type of way, but more in a greater cosmic being's actions unknowingly affecting lesser beings.

@@desmondclubland4006 Agreed. Monster Hunter usually does have a good story to tell. It’s just that the plot isn’t always well executed or coherent, or the plot is just a predictable, cookie cutter format that is repeated over and over again and therefore easy to understand and predict. Throw that aside, take it out of the equation, and you just have the story and the main message that is trying to be told - which most of the time is pretty good.

So, a note on pronunciation: "-deus" being clearly Latin in origin indicates possible Latin phonology. "C" in Latin typically makes a "k" sound. (To wit: "Julius Caesar" should actually be pronounced like, "Yulius Kaiser" in English, and is incidentally where the word "Kaiser" comes from to begin with.) Therefore, "Kay-ah-day-us" would likely be a much more accurate pronunciation.
Not sure if this is what the devs intended, (I like to get in fights about how "Tiche" should be pronounced in Elden Ring, so what do I care?) but this seemingly what the word origin phonology is telling us it should sound like.

These might refer to the very ancient origins of the cetaceans we have in our oceans today... once I read of a primordial race of underwater beings originated in the constellation of the "Whale" (Cetus, in latin), specifically in planets around the stars of Kaffaljidhma (Gamma Ceti) and Baten-Kaitos (Zeta Ceti) who were the first genetical ancestors of the cetacean race that appeared in our galaxy and whose descendants eventually migrated or were implanted in the Sirius B star system by the "Galactic Farmers" or Life Seeders of our local universe. Since those ancient times, the prototypes of great whales and those huge sea monsters of cetacean lineage have been regarded as very loving, peaceful, wise beings... It is very interesting because in the new film "Avatar 2, the Way of Water" there is also depicted a race of huge horned cetaceans who cohabit harmoniously with the semi-aquatic navi (the turquoise blue, cat-like elven creatures particular to the Avatar Saga). thanks for the video, i loved knowing about Ceadeus!!

And there's is consequence of killing the Namazu instead of subduing it will cause a series unpredictable events...... Such as when we came to over-hunts whales, sharks, turtles, and wolves; the alpha predators of their regions are eventually overtaken by their preys....

For me I like to think the name ceadeus is inspired by the phonetic sound of cea being the same as sea and the deus part coming from latin making him the literal sea god.

Ceadeus also sounds pretty similar to Cetus, meaning whale

Ceadeus feels like a Free Willy situation in that it causes problems but once they're dealt with, it's content to be free. And that makes for a fairly happy ending because it never was trying to be a threat, it just needed some help from its ever growing horns

I honestly think ceadeus' biggest selling point is that it is underwater. Its the fact that sailors will have seen it but never had proof that it existed and thats why it would be a myth. However things on land and in the sky are a lot easier to see and therefore explain (foot prints, broken branches, etc)

I really wish more MH games, and MH type games did stuff like this, and even made it clear on your reasons. Sometimes there are animals that are malicious, it kills cuz it wants to, it's an invasive species and is disrupting the ecosystems equilibrium, etc, but many times the animal doesn't understand it's causing problems, and it's easier, safer, and more human to just drive it away than to kill it.
The comparison of the view of nuclear energy in comics of America Vs Japan comes to mind, where in America we view it as power; it gives us powers and strength. A radioactive spider game Peter Parker super strength and senses, a Real radioactive spider would give you Leukemia.
In Japan radioactive waste creates Godzilla and many of the other Kaiju's in the monster verse(at least in the original depiction I think), which proceed to destroy Japan.
Nuclear energy is power/strength vs Nuclear energy is dangerous if not taken care of correctly.
So having something like "This monster is hostile to all life, we must put it down" as well as "This monster isn't dangerous itself, but it is endangering others thru it's actions and we must make it leave.", would teach people that while sometimes killing something may be necessary for the safety of others, it is the exception not the rule, and many times you don't need to kill something just because it's a problem.(Looking at the extinct Japanese Wolf.)
