Mr. Robot thanks for pointing that out. Are you talking about in the beginning when i took out the order form. I’ve seen it. You can’t make out anything. Even if they could it’s not my address. That’s the xfinity return address. I’ll watch it again. i appreciate you bringing this to my attention. I saw it before i posted this video. But my information isn’t on it. Plus even the XFINITY address to the company is to blurry to make anything out. Thank you for watching. I appreciate you.
I'd say if there's a will there's a way. Any way that I could contact you personally so I can tell you the time stamps? Even though most of the information was blurry, it doesn't stop some people. Your real service address was in the video, although that was blurry too, but not blurry enough to prevent an "educated" guess. Same with phone and account number.
When you connect a new gateway it generally can take a few hours to fully provision...my XB6 is faster than my xb3 and provides much better range now covering my entire home.
You’re not gonna get anywhere close to 1Gbps speed through WiFi, only through wired connection. Also if you want to get close to that 450Mbps you need to set up the dual band capability, otherwise the modem will choose for you between the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. 2.4ghz giving you wider range, but slower speeds. 5ghz giving you slightly smaller range but much faster speeds.
Nick Summers I’m aware of only getting the close to 1gb only if Ethernet is plugged in. The WiFi speed however still increases once the darn thing gets set up correctly. I was told on the phone that they could set it up but now a rep is telling me that that’s incorrect and a technician has to come out and set it up so i can get the 1gb speed the rep has around 450mbs you mentioned on WiFi. She sent me a picture of her phone screen when she did a speed test. Haven’t gotten a tech out yet but i will soon enough. To me it’s worth it because i upload a lot of videos but for the average person only browsing i thing the base speed is fast enough. What do you think?
I didn't specifically setup dual-band, I just walked thru a basic XB6 setup with defaults. I'm getting anywhere from 430 Mbs to 480 Mbs hardwired, depending on time of day and network traffic. I have just one SSID (which is all it asks for during setup) but I can see that various devices (27 of them in my home) will auto-connect at either 2.4-GHz -or- 5-GHz. In any case, I'm very happy as I have pretty much doubled my speed over my previous gen Xfinity Gateway.
voodooaudio I feel the same way. Not the speed they promised but twice as fast is a lot better. I’ll take it for now. They still have a lot of room to improve as far as the upload speeds are concerned and i think they are capable of doing it why they haven’t yet is another question.
A-Dubb sorry I didn't mention this earlier. I don't subscribe to Comcast Gigabit service, only 400 Mbs which I am achieving and a little bit more. When I asked the rep if the XB6 can achieve Gigabit speeds I was told that it can provided I subscribed to Gigabit service. But I didn't ask if this was over Wifi or hardwired Ethernet.
By volume, the new one is actually bigger, but there is something wrong with your setup. I have the stupid xB6 (it is too hot for my liking) and I have about 240/12 Mpps down/up on a 200 Mbps plan.
Believe it or not, its the quality of those modems. Don't expect the modem to be fully tested and pass QC. I have gone through 4 modems both xb3 and xb6 to get everything working. The problem I run into are : no inbound calls (rings but can't hear anything), the unit kept buzzing, WIFI signal kept phasing in and out, can't connect via xfinity WiFi (both), poor ethernet speed performance.... etc. My suggestions is, keep swapping it out till you find one that works perfectly. Depends on your package, the newer modem might not make sense. I personally like the older model, it has 2 USB ports great for charging, lots of LED indicators for troubleshooting, 4 ethernet ports for VOIP, TV, and computers, Thinner profile with a flat top. The newer XB6 have just 1 LED, 2 phone jacks, 2 ethernet ports, COAX/cable port, has a fan that whirls and consumed more power. I dislike all the cable sticking out from the back and no way to push the unit back against the wall with my current setup.
I was just given the XB-6 as a replacement. I guess the tech didn't know much about them. I phoned him back and said it's humming loud. A little warm. I asked him did it have a fan? He didn't know but he'd stop back. In the meantime I Googled the XB-6 and ta daa! It has a fan. I texted him back and cancelled. Now what I read about the XB-6 has a fan, that when the router gets hot the fan kicks on. Only thing, about the 5th day in I've never heard the fan turn off. Do you have any ideas on this issue? Thanks! ":-Dx jack
NEVER use an Xfinity modem. If you get Xfinity, you really should think about getting a different modem. Not the one made by Xfinity. I had the Xfinity router and got horrible speeds and then got a Netgear Nighthawk and my speeds we're so much better. I suggest getting a Netgear router because of how good and high quality they are
You were probably connecting through your 2.4 band or had something prior to an xb3 ....I install these modems all the time and you almost always get what you pay for
Dude, I have been working at Comcast for 4 years now. This is what I would like to advise my callers as well but we techs are not allowed to because "business" Why would i say this? Our modems are mostly not brand new. They recycle them. Comcast has their own lab for old modems, and they have special techs to fix and make them all look brand new again.
I've had nothing but HORRIBLE speeds with Netgear. They only last 6 months and crap out. I will NEVER buy another crappy Netgear again. After buying 4 in a row every 6 months, it was actually cheaper to rent one and make Comcast replace it whenever I have any problems. In my opinion, Netgear is JUNK. Don't waste your money!
One advantage to using the Xfinity modems is if something goes wrong you just swap it out or just keep exchanging them when a new/better one comes out. I used to buy my own gear and for me it just didn't seem worth it... it's a personal preference.
You were on the 5Ghz when you got 299, with a single name ssid it moves you back and forth between the 2.4Ghz and the 5Ghz, your first test on XB6 was in the 2.4 the other time you were on the 5Ghz. Separate your WiFi names and always choose the 5Ghz WiFi one. Also mobile devices top out between 200-400 depending on the device.
Absolutely the XB3 should be swapped for the XB6, XB7, or XB8. Those bring faster wired speed, faster wireless speed, DOCSIS 3.1 support which brings OFDM and OFDMA support, and mid-split support.
Well correct me if I'm wrong but the reason why you're not seeing that much speed when you do a Speedtest with your phone is because your phone can only handle so much speed whereas a computer can handle much much more than a phone
No. When you test the speeds your getting threw your phone that’s an accurate reading for the speeds your getting threw your phone. If the speed increases and you test again threw your phone it’s still going to increase on your phone. To test and see if the speed got faster it doesn’t matter what your testing with as long as you stay consistent with the device your using to test.
I had to delete my first comment because you answered my question in the next video that you did about this speed test in April. Plus I subscribed to you just now. I am getting this one I think. Either this Thursday or Friday.
Love Films he is doing that later, that is why he get 270 but he doesn’t know the difference on this video between 2.4 and 5GHz. It’s hurts me as a tech. He doesn’t know what he talking about.
You can connect to your 5ghz frequency and double your speed. Call 1800 comcast and have them set it up it will double your speed all comcast modems have 2.4 and 5 g frequency
You should setup a appointment there are other factors that determine your speed(plan tier, cable strength, wiring, device being used) it's up your speed tier no internet provider will guarantee top top speeds
Thanks for watching. I actually got it to work. I have an updated video testing the faster speeds. All you said was absolutely correct. Thanks again. What speed where you able to get WiFi using the speed tester after the tech came out? Oh and please subscribe to my channel if you don’t mind.
Dejan Hey. Thanks for watching. You don’t need the service to get the box but if you want the speed after getting the box you need the service and to get it to work it has to be installed by a tech. I was misguided by multiple XFINITY reps when i made this video.
You only have to unplug and replug the power cord as to power cycle the device bro. Then its gonna work a lot faster than the xb3. Call tech support, they only have to do a bit of configuration to get it a lot faster.
Comcast employee here. Some variables that could affect your speeds include whether you are connected via ethernet (hardwired) or wifi, the plan you have, and the capabilities of your device. I have noticed that after new modems are set up, regardless if they are xb6's or xb3's, it can sometimes take a minute for the correct speed to register, which may have been what you were experiencing. Your agent most likely did a router reset as a first troubleshooting step, but you most likely would have been fine without it with a little more time. Also, what speed you will get will HIGHLY depend on what your device is capable of getting. You mentioned having an iPhone X, which is only capable of a max speed of 300 mbps. If you go to the website speedtest.xfinity.com/devicespeeds, you'll see a search tool we've created that helps you find your devices max speed. It's a good practice to know what speeds your devices are capable of so you can decide on the best plan for you.
As a comcast employee, I have a question for you, if I buy one of those xb3 from ebay for example, to use at home, do I have to contact Comcast Customer Service? or it should work after a few minutes of being plugged in? because we all know how helpful Comcast customer service is.
how do we get the better speed? cuz on the bigger box i had 2 speeds 2.4 an 5 on this newer smaller box ive only 1 speed an thats the 2.4.the 5 was alot faster whn it came to doing things but i aint got that option of either or nomore.so how we get that 5 bk?an i thought haven them i pads i gess there called wuld speed it up but it didnt.any ideas on how to get the better speed from it that i did have
On July 18, 2020, I swapped my XB3 for an XB6 (Arris TG3482G) that I picked up at the local Xfinity store. Part of the setup material that it came with (not in a fancy box by the way) said to activate the new router via the Xfi "app" that I had to install on my iPhone 11 Pro. Once I launched the smart phone app, it told me to aim my camera at the QR code on the bottom of the new XB6 and it proceeded to copy over all of the configuration information (SSID, network password, etc.) from the old XB3 to the new XB6 ( which must have been stored in the cloud somewhere because the XB3 was obviously powered off when I did that), which saved me a lot of time and headaches because I did not have to struggle to re-join my NAS (Western Digital MyBook Live) and HP All-in-One device to the network using my desired static IP addresses for them. The landline worked almost immediately with the XB6 but it took a while (maybe 30 minutes?) for the router to finish activating, which I assume included downloading firmware as well as finding devices and "announcing" via message on the phone app when each device was officially joined into the network. I'm curious to know if that type of activation was an option when you made this video back in 2018. The one thing that threw me for a loop was trying to navigate to the admin screen via the browser on my laptop (10.0.0.1) because the ONE THING that DID NOT copy over from the XB3 to the XB6 was my "admin" password. I finally had to open up a "chat" with Xfinity which informed me that the default password for "admin" on their routers is the insecure word "password", which I immediately changed to something complex. I do miss the extra two Ethernet ports because I had been using a Netgear P1200 "home wiring" connection to get a faster near-hard-wired connection to my laptop in a different room. I'll live with just WiFi for now.
Activate and access the MoCA through another cable port via a MoCA splicer in the house for higher wifi speeds. Also, why not upgrade? The rental fee is the same for newer equipment.
Greg Epkes That’s not true the modem will provide the speeds regardless of whether the MoCA is on or not, the MoCA is only required to be on when being used with their wireless cable boxes.
Albert Delgado You’re not fully understanding MoCA’s capabilities. Activating the MoCA allows you to ad another WiFi hub off another hardwired cable jack coming from another wall that talks to the main modem at hardwired speeds; bringing that WiFi hub closer to another area in a distant part of the home or office that may be blocked by structural barriers.
Wow. Very interesting. Would you mind elaborating a little more in detail on how I would do that? How does one activate the MoVa? I’ve never even heard of it in truth. Then is it just Ethernet from the modem into another modem in another room? This is good stuff. I just wanna see if it works.
Greg Epkes MoCA is a network that's solely used for Cable TV. The only reason it's there on the XB3 and the XB6 it's for the X1 cable TV service. Also by "cable jack " I assume you're talking about a coax outlet, and if this is true then you're wrong about having another wifi spot in the house using it. If you're taking about an ethernet rj45 outlet, assuming it's all wired at the panel correctly , you can activate all the jacks by backfeeding one outlet from the modem regardless if MoCA is on or not, and then you can add, say, an extender on the other side (though I'd prefer just another router). We don't do 2 modems so it would have to be either extender or router. Trust me, I'm a comcast tech level 4. MoCA is just for our X1 TV services nothing else. As for the upgrade from XB3 to XB6. I'd say it will definitely be worth it by the end of the year. They're ironing out ALOT of stuff still. But it's being addressed.
As a comcast onboarding technical and billing rep who actually fucks around with the physical modems for fun ... I noticed this was the first batch of XB6's. I also find with these models that I never get calls about hardwire internet speed issues, but wifi issues. And honestly, most wifi speed issues are resolved with a booster or extender and turning off power steering (creating differently named 2.4 and 5.0). Also, the modem of the xb6 of both manufactures is great. The router part from this *batch* leaves some desire, since the model at this time still had issues. I find using bridge mode and a seperate router works better for customers with the cisco xb6 (which this guy has). All and all, interesting speed test. *edit: Most people dont need a gig. Its more bragging rights or for households with more people.*
Other things that affect your speed is noise on your system make sure all your fittings are tight and your exterior fittings are up to date and not black. If your speed are lacking or slow you could have interference or your signal is out of spec. I would call for a tech to make a markethealth check or text "On It" to 266 278.
I did this upgrade and while it’s true you can’t get 1gbps even wired lan, it’s so much faster than the old box. On my phone alone I get close to 400 gbps
It's possible you were connected to the 5ghz signal on your old router (which is faster always yet doesn't carry signal as far) and then you were connected to the 2.4ghz signal on the new router. (Usually 2.4 is the default before setting up) This would definitely account for your speed differences...And then there's the question of what band N or AC that your new router came default with as well.
10.0.0.1 is the default IP for Comcast modem/routers....you can make sure that you have both bands 2.4 and 5 turned on... Each have advantages over the other in certain situations and all new routers are dual band capable...you'll see 2 separate wifi signal so you will need to enter your password for your 5ghz connection even if you've already connected to your 2.4ghz.... in the end though Ethernet cables are still the way to go if it's possible to run them to your device and really need the speed...
We upgraded to the XB6, and lost our 5GHZ options? And now I'm noticing connection issues on my switch and laptop. I could play certain games in handheld mode, but now it lags badly compared to the xb3? This is confusing.
when I got the xb3 I was concerned about either net ports or the lack there of. The guy just handed me a network switch with 5 ports at no charge. However I should add that I have been getting a dropped connection about every 10 or 15 minutes on my slingbox with an accompanying pop sound and brief lack of audio over the tv.
You should have called a tech. Plus wifi is not consistent. The iPhone X won't get full gig. XB6 has 8x8 antenna vs 4x4. Plus XB6 is a docsis 3.1 modem. You need to be hard wired in. Don't make judgment on wifi
Jas Holley I did after the fact. I would have initially if i wasn’t told by an XFINITY rep on the phone that i could do it myself by just switching the boxes. I learned the rep on the phone was wrong as they very very very often are. When I ordered my xFi pods i spoke with two reps that had never even heard of them that’s a bit shameful.
You got a old TCA203 alarm keypad. You must have a tech visit to swap it out the the newer TCA300. The new touchscreen uses a sleek design and adds 5g WiFi.
I currently have Gigabit internet tier. In this vidoe I didn't have the proper plan to get the faster speeds. The rep on the phone told me that didnt matter and I would get the faster speed. That was obviously wrong information.
I have the Extreme 400 tier. My speed test was 109 up and 24 down. I'm thinking of turning in my XB6 for something else to save myself $9/month. What router would you recommend?
They guaranteed my WiFi for min 250+Mbps Download speeds. If I notice slower WiFi speeds using their equipment? I call & they’ll fix & credit me. I’ve been a 25+ year customer. Only because I cannot find another service that is as fast as ComCast (Xfinity) They won’t guarantee if your using your own equipment
@@Mike_The_Hog_A_Nator they will guarantee hardline but not wifi even with comcast equipment and that is because wifi is based on makeup of the house and your equipment. gigabit we also have a disclosure that the modem will get 1gig speed not necessarily your device.
The device you are using to do a speed test is can limit the network speed reported. Factors like network card or the radio in a mobile device also can reduce the speed reported. Distance from the router as well. The farther away or more walls the slower / weaker the signal. Lastly the band being used. 2.4ghz is slower but better distance. 5ghz is much faster but limited range. We have Xfinity and have never come close to our advertised speeds.
Yandei Estrada i made this video in March. My speeds increased after it was set up correctly with a tech coming out and doing whatever they had to do and upgrading my service plan to the 1gig.
justblaze152 not yet. I’ve been in and out a town and missed one appointment already. I’ll do a video as soon as they are out here. Hopefully this week. I had the same experience. My up actually dropped by 4-8mbps but I’m keeping the faith cause I’ve seen someone else’s connection WiFi and hardwired faster that ours. We shall see. I also have a suggestion for you. Next time a tech comes to your house. Ask him to give you a signal booster. They gave me one some years ago in the basement and i totally forgot i had it.
will do so man got a rep coming in a couple days so hopefully they could get those speeds what their supposed to be thanks for the reply and hope all goes well for you as well. will check for you vid
wait you are hooked up to the 2.4 network coming out that xb6 when you hook up to the 5 network you will get about 400 on your phone but you have to go in the app setting to make the speedtest do half a gig down load now to get the gig speed you need 1. ethernet cord and 2. you need to have 5-10 gig network card because a normal bought pc come with only a 1 gig network card that tops out at a half gig
Daniel Kamm lol actually. Your right. Lol i just wanted a little faster speeds cause i do a lot of video uploading online and large files take so long to upload sometimes. But, your statement is correct. The average person is probably just browsing so like you said. If it ain’t broke........... lol very good point sir. 👍🏾
I Absolutely Agree . Gonna keep my old one for now. I am 60 years of age, I am satisfied with what I have. I came up in a time when none of this was available. "If it is not broke"... Don't Fix it!
make sure that the power cable provides the same amount of V that makes a difference. also it is just better to buy a separate modem and router if you want better performance. plus you'll save money.
Being a tech, I was watching the video in shock, because a few more things factor into the speed you will get. After the System states your setup, the Modem then needs to be provisioned for the plan. All the setup did was register the modem on the Xfinity's database. After that the modem then is a blank slate able to access the internet through Xfinity's service.(Usually with the min. connection to the network) Now the Fun part starts, the Xfinity site then talks to the modem , looks over the plan and says hey bro this is the plan your boi is signed up for this is what we will send you. You panic'd way to early. That whole interaction between your modem and Xfinity can take on the best case scenario side 15 mins worst case that night when the Xfinity servers reset. I was not gonna touch the fact you was doing speed test with WIFI22 cause that will never yield great or plan results. Most techs, when they set you up allocate a little more bandwidth to your plan, the reason is people who think they are getting over don't complain. So if you have the 250 plan i personally would setup with the range of about 255- 299 that way you see 299 you like dayum i'm setup, no need to complain i am getting more than i am paying for. This is an extremely dumb'd down version of what happens on the back end. But i am curious to see what the speeds looks like the next day.?
Same thing is happening to me right now... We had the XB3 with 250mbps plan. I always got 285/295 mbps. Now with the new XB6 I’m getting 105/115 mbps average . I found a old cat 5e Ethernet cable and hooked up to laptop.. 65 mbps😡 went to BestBuy for the hell of it and bought Cat 6 Ethernet... 70/90mbps😡 ITS A RACKET!! The funny thing is the lady was really quick to offer me the gig speed😂 I understand you don’t get exactly what they say u do BUT I’m getting NOWHERE TO THE 250 THROUGH THE ETHERNET CABLE TOO LAPTOP! Awesome video.. Mr Dubs👍🏼
The most accurate way to measure your connection speed is to use either a laptop or a desktop computer then connect it to your router using the category 6 or 6a Ethernet cable plugged to one of the 2 Ethernet ports at the back. Wireless connection is not that accurate and may show lower speed than what you are actually subscribed to.
That might make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside but it's irrelevant if you don't connect that way normally. Test it how you use it because most won't hardwire every device, especially phones or electronics at the opposite end of the house.
You were getting 299 because we provision the modem ~25% more than the speed you pay for. 299 was on the high end for 250 but I see it all the time its higher than normal. But with 250 you should always cap out around 275
This xb6a is designed to work witb the pods if you have trouble wifi spots in your home and that you have more control options through all devices connected to wifi
A-Dubb - To answer your question you sent to me: As of this afternoon May 2 2018, I'm getting about 430 Mbs on my MacBook Pro over hardwired Ethernet. I'm getting about 230 Mbs on the same MacBook Pro over Wifi. The MacBook Pro is at the opposite corner of the house from the XB6. When I did the speedtest on my iPhone 6s (315 Mbs) it was much closer to the XB6. Also, I suspect that slight differences in speed (my 473 Mbs vs 430 Mbs hardwired) might be due to different times of day and the amount of network traffic. My 473 Mbs was achieve in the wee hours of the morning. In any case, I am very pleased with the upgrade as I am getting about twice the speed that I had before.
The xb6 is a good modem but it’s a mediocre router. It’s range is short, and it has congestion issues while streaming using multiple devices at a time. It’s best to put this thing in modem only mode and buy a higher quality router
I think this modem router on its own as a modem is fine but you you really want the best performance youre going to want to get a nighthawk router or something on top of that because it can only handle 1 connection at a time for me before it goes on the fritz and becomes unstable
I've hit over 300 for my 250Mbps plan... When I first tested the 5GHz band, it was dreadful. Short range, dropping out, etc... Got a new Asus ROG GL503VD laptop that changed everything! They apparently have been working on and fixing the hardware for the 5GHz band! For the first time in a couple years, I've given the 5GHz band a go again and I'm glad I did! Just needed the right stuff for it to be done right! "Strix SCAR Edition features the latest 802.11ac 2x2 Wave 2 Wi-Fi standard, with two antennas each for both transmission and reception, for speeds that are up to 1.7Gbps." - Quoted from Asus Product Description!
I swapped out the same old modem for the same new modem. My speeds remained the same on my hardwired iMac, around 440 Mbps download and 12 Mbps upload. However the speeds increased on my Samsung Note 8, from 369 download to 440 with the new modem.
I get 500mb on my iPhone and 997mb max on my computer-hard wired... unfortunately some places the network in the neighborhoods have too much noise and distortion which can cause the xb6 not to function properly and reset a lot... but unless u getting the 1 gb service u really don’t need an xb6
Normally you will get a higher speed on a speed test and as far as my wifi and wired speeds goes I get 135mbs down,12.6 up on my 5ghz band and 70 mbs on the 2.4 band paid for 100 down,11 up Spectrum.
We just got one of those on the first of the month because our xb3 was giving out a weak signal. So far so good but we haven't had it that long either. I kind of don't like how it doesn't have any lights on the front like the other one to tell you if it's working or not.. And were do you find that pinging info at. Because you made the look like a breeze. We had to call in.
At 12:40 the reason why your speeds are slow is that you're on 2.4 GHz band WiFi. You need to connect to 5 GHz band or wired connection to take full advantage of the speeds.
You made absolutely perfect sense. In the beginning of the video I was all excited about getting this new box, router. I was ready to call Comcast tomorrow morning. But with the way you explained it and all of that, I'm going to stick with what I have which is the same box that you had initially before you switched it over to that new one. 1 gig is ridiculously fast. You might be right when you talked about the Wi-Fi. Maybe if you hook up your ethernet cable to your computer you might get a fast your BPS. Who knows. I'm looking forward to your next video on this issue. I used to work at Comcast and I was a phone support representative for the internet side of the business. They don't train you very well. And this was in 2008. Got any rating, I'm definitely staying with what I got for now. I'm going to wait for your next video and see if you found out anything else. I definitely don't want to spend $18 more a month. I'm already spending about 270 bucks a month for phone internet and multiple movie channels. And Netflix. Thanks for your video brother
Plus there are very few web sites and devices aren't capable of 1gig and those sites that are dont want you hitting there sites at that speed, call for a appointment techs(I am one) have and device that will let you see the true speeds you are getting
Hi im a comcast tech and i just wanna say that xb6 takes longer to provision specially you just activated it online. Im not saying you need to call for an activation but give your modem some time to provision fully or try to unplug the power cord on the wall to let it do the reset again. and also please test 2.4ghz and 5ghz. If you only have one wifi network you can seperate it through the admin tool then activate the automatic band steering through the xfi app for auto transfer of wifi network. Idk if youll believe me but good video though
A-Dubb Productions that was a typo. I’m saying my area doesn’t have Xfinity speeds over 150mbps. So I’m on the highest speed which is 150mbps. But I heard that you can only upgrade the the xb6 if you have 300 mbps or higher?
I’m not sure. I do know that as you stated some areas get faster speeds than others. I’m assuming in time the slower areas will get faster speeds as they improve their coverage areas and improve their infrastructure but that’s honestly a question for an employee. If they say you can get faster speeds if you get the new box then test it out if that’s what you want and hold them to what they said if your not getting the promised speed.
As of now the xb6 in bridge mode caps the speed at 650mbps due to firmware. If not in bridge mode it gives gig speeds. Comcast doesnt know how to fix it
I work at Comcast and no you are not entitled to the xb6 only if you have one gig and actually the xb6 maxes out at 400mbps as I’ve had multiple customers come back saying that they are not getting a gig. The xb6 is also the worse thing you can get as it will fail multiple times a day. DO NOT GET THAT JUNK STAY WITH THE XB3 AS IT MAXES OUT AT 400mbps
so let me get this right your plan say you get 250 mps down and you test the speed and you getting 280 plus mps is that right ? I am going to say you got more then what you paid for.
I got the 1GB xb6 and I’m only getting about 50Mpbs and I’ve swapped out my device multiple times trying to get a better speed and now I don’t know what to do because I need better internet and no one knows how to help me.
Make sure you change the server, try different ones. I get ~200Mbps on my local Comcast server. Speedtest.net server pulls 460Mbps on my xb6. Over WiFi.
I have both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz with 2.4 I have over 250+ and with my 5Ghz I get 450+ I also have the upgrade speed It also matters what area you live in xfinity is also upgrading their areas at least in my area they are. I’m fine with mine since I have 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz speeds to choose from. The 5Ghz I use for my Smart home , TV, alarm, and gaming. Also another plus is boots up FASTER than xb3 and I hate things that take for ever to reboot xb3 took for ever to reboot at least 5min+ xb6 takes less than a minute
I just got this today and it 4-5x my speeds. Over wifi in the same room I am getting 300mbps download using my Samsung galaxy s8 plus. In kb/s using speed test it is 36,000 download which is crazy for me. I remember dialup hahah so the changes amaze me.
Well I'm a field tech for Xfinity. If u have the 1g service you need the xb6 it has dual band the 2.4 tops off at 80 megs but the 5 gives you faster speeds depending on the device you use it on through wifi. Comcast does not guarantee wifi speed only directly connected. Smart phone will not be able to register the 1000 megs of wifi speed they usually top off at 300-400 megs.
Just got the XB6 for my Gigabit Internet and was disappointed with it. Never came close to gigabit internet and that is with a direct Cable Connection and a single dedicated Cable for Internet. Was told by Comcast support with Gigabit Internet to get the XB7 which is more designed for Gigabit Internet.
XB9 Battery info: The XB9 takes an external battery and from what they described it looks almost like a power brick for a laptop. Since the XB9 requires AC power and does not have space internally for a battery, the battery backup is more like a small UPS. I should have more detailed info once mine arrives within 7 - 10 days. The price I was quoted was $70 + $5.95 shipping to appear on my Xfinity bill. Tech spec I was given was 8 hours standby / 5 hours talk time. This keeps the phone ports active but is not a backup to keep internet alive (probably draws too much power). Xfinity battery sales phone number: 1-888-972-1261 Also note: if you use cordless phones be sure the base stations are backed up on a UPS. Otherwise your cordless phones won't work during a power outage even though your XB9 phone ports are active. Additionally, a UPS (like APC or similar) on your XB6 instead of the battery backup or in addition to the battery backup might be a good idea. My network switches and pretty much everything is on a UPS so if we have a power outage I still have a few hours of phone & internet uptime w/o using my cellphone as a hotspot.
The reason you were getting 70mbps at first is because when you plugged in the new modem it was never activated. Your old modern was still in active status while the new modem was disabled. The agent simply reordered the account and placed your new modem in slot A and put the old modem in slot B making it active. Also iPhones don't get speeds passed 370mb. (I would know I work for the company 4 years now)
Francisco Valenzuela you can plug it in but you have to get the technician out as well as upgrade your service to the gig to get the fastest internet speed xfinity has to offer.
The only difference between the XB3 and XB6 is the addition of 2 upstream and 2 downstream OFDM DOCSIS 3.1 channels in addition to the 32x16 D/U DOCSIS 3.0 channels. The XB3 just has the 32x16 D/U DOCSIS 3.0 channels. Also, the XB6 adds a ZigBee radio, WiFi AC Wave 2 vs WiFi AC Wave 1 on the XB6. Additionally, the XB6 lacks 2 Ethernet ports, has a fan, one multicolor status LED, Packet Cable 3.0 vs 2.0 for the phone, no USB, no DECT radio for hooking a cordless phone up, no battery bay and more.
yeah we have xfinity. Our plan says we pay for 150 MBPS but we only get 33.7 We currently have netgear WNR2000V2. Brother says it's only 2-3 years old but I honestly think he's wrong. I don't think we have replaced it since before we moved here and we been here since 2003.
I actually just ordered Xfinity and have no problems with the XB6 box. My plan is 250 mbps but I get higher speeds over 300 on Moto Z Force 2 and IPad. My Smart TV has absolutely no lag time with RUclips, Netflix Crunchyroll or any other app. My computer runs faster now too. Only gripe I have is the limited HD channels on the TV service and the lack of use from FXNOW and other apps I use on my devices. If I’m paying for the service, I expect to get service.
Robert Cadenas Sounds like the same experience I’ve had. When it works it’s great but sometimes it’s just getting it to work that’s the problem. I’m glad it worked well for you.
Newark, DE! When I do a speedtest (I live in Milford) I get a better ping and download speed in Baltimore then I do Newark. I just upgraded to gigabit today, will be installed tomorrow.
Its called provisioning not calabration we provision the bootfile to give u the speed tier we say a certain speed but it COULD be higher but it has WAY to many variables on wifi we ALWAYS recommend to do a speed test hardwired
First, your speeds will be the same on either modem, unless you subscribe to the 1Gb service. That's the purpose of the XB6... to handle 1Gb subscription. Second, your phone speedtest will not show accurate speeds when you subscribe to speeds over 300MBps. To get an accurate speedtest, you must be wired straight to a PC or laptop. Third, don't run your speedtest immediately after provisioning your new modem... wait 5-10 minutes before running the speedtest.
As a Comcast tech they shouldn’t have given you that in the first place second just cause the gig speed is offered it depends in your area a tech would have to make sure your area has been upgraded to handle the speed know this had a problem later as he have home security it will not work
I have a GB plan and it took about 20 minutes after initial set up to get my 970 mb/s. I’m very
Happy with my GB plan.
Harlot's Webb that’s good to hear. When this stuff works it works well.

Ok. I’ll check it further and blur it out. I Sincerely thank you my friend.
When you connect a new gateway it generally can take a few hours to fully provision...my XB6 is faster than my xb3 and provides much better range now covering my entire home.
It's faster than the xb3, my xb3 was giving 299 as w3ll. The xb6 gives me about 400-500.
Wow. That’s good to know. Interesting.
Thanks! ":-Dx jack
No. I have no idea in reference to when the fan goes on and off unfortunately. Sorry.
NEVER use an Xfinity modem. If you get Xfinity, you really should think about getting a different modem. Not the one made by Xfinity. I had the Xfinity router and got horrible speeds and then got a Netgear Nighthawk and my speeds we're so much better. I suggest getting a Netgear router because of how good and high quality they are
Agreed. I got a Netgear X6 with my own modem and I’m getting hella better speeds
You were probably connecting through your 2.4 band or had something prior to an xb3 ....I install these modems all the time and you almost always get what you pay for
Dude, I have been working at Comcast for 4 years now. This is what I would like to advise my callers as well but we techs are not allowed to because "business"
Why would i say this?
AntnyB Capalini thanks
I wonder if this guy ever checked the Wi-Fi networks he was connecting to. You're right about the the 2.4ghz and 5 ghz networks.
@AntnyB Capalini Yup, band steering I'm not a fan of at all.
Band steering , Comcast doesn’t want you downloading videos or movies that aren’t there’s or affiliate of there’s , you will have an problem by design
@Jacob Bleeder band steering directs your devices to the 2.4 or 5GHz bands
documentation.meraki.com/MR/Radio_Settings/Band_Steering_Overview
Try your test on the 5ghz network please
Exactly
A-Dubb Productions it varies for all of the reasons I stated but it was always faster than the customer's equipment
Hello. Do you need gigabyte service to get the X6? I have 150 speeds and I was wondering if that could work on the X6.
The question is did you do the speed test 2.4 ghz or 5 ghz?
As a comcast employee, I have a question for you, if I buy one of those xb3 from ebay for example, to use at home, do I have to contact Comcast Customer Service? or it should work after a few minutes of being plugged in? because we all know how helpful Comcast customer service is.
how do we get the better speed? cuz on the bigger box i had 2 speeds 2.4 an 5 on this newer smaller box ive only 1 speed an thats the 2.4.the 5 was alot faster whn it came to doing things but i aint got that option of either or nomore.so how we get that 5 bk?an i thought haven them i pads i gess there called wuld speed it up but it didnt.any ideas on how to get the better speed from it that i did have
What plan do you have? Blast, Blast pro, Extreme??? Extreme pro??? Or gig???
Moca let’s your x1 boxes communicate with eachother. Has nothing to do with the modem unless you have an xi5.
Is there a wider WiFi range with the xb6 compared to the xb3?
Only 2 ethernet ports? Could I buy more to have more ports ?
Other things that affect your speed is noise on your system make sure all your fittings are tight and your exterior fittings are up to date and not black. If your speed are lacking or slow you could have interference or your signal is out of spec. I would call for a tech to make a markethealth check or text "On It" to 266 278.
I did this upgrade and while it’s true you can’t get 1gbps even wired lan, it’s so much faster than the old box. On my phone alone I get close to 400 gbps
charles wills yes. In one of my videos wired with the Ethernet I’m getting 900 plus. It’s very close when it works.
Is there a wider wifi range with the xb6 compared to xb3
Does it come with WiFi router feature? Is the WiFi feature (range etc) good? Thanks!
It's possible you were connected to the 5ghz signal on your old router (which is faster always yet doesn't carry signal as far) and then you were connected to the 2.4ghz signal on the new router. (Usually 2.4 is the default before setting up)
This would definitely account for your speed differences...And then there's the question of what band N or AC that your new router came default with as well.
I just got the newest modem today how come the wifi range is not that good compared to the wifi from my router? Thank you
AGlan your welcome. Thanks for watching. I honestly have no idea why your WiFi router’s range was better. Was your previous router the xb3?
We upgraded to the XB6, and lost our 5GHZ options? And now I'm noticing connection issues on my switch and laptop. I could play certain games in handheld mode, but now it lags badly compared to the xb3? This is confusing.
Is there a way to add more Ethernet ports to this new modem . With out going with a router ?
when I got the xb3 I was concerned about either net ports or the lack there of. The guy just handed me a network switch with 5 ports at no charge.
However I should add that I have been getting a dropped connection about every 10 or 15 minutes on my slingbox with an accompanying pop sound and brief lack of audio over the tv.
Your xb3 modem looks like mine but mine says Arris TG1682G on the back. Same model?
Why give up ethernet ports?
I had to switch if I wanted the faster upload speeds.
Get a gigabit switch if you need more Ethernet ports.
@@marios3202 was thinking exactly this!
Xb6 has 32x8 channels for downloads
You got a old TCA203 alarm keypad. You must have a tech visit to swap it out the the newer TCA300. The new touchscreen uses a sleek design and adds 5g WiFi.
Hey bro but, how did you fix that? How did you do to improve speed?
what is your speed from comast? Do you have blast or higher
The xb3 also has battery backup capability to allow your phones to keep working during a power outage and the xb6 doesn't have it.
SB6 Does have a battery backup
Yeah it does chump
Comcast dosen't guarantee wifi speeds
Comcast Guy The Comcast Guy that's true =)
You are correct....they word it as up to
They guaranteed my WiFi for min 250+Mbps Download speeds. If I notice slower WiFi speeds using their equipment? I call & they’ll fix & credit me. I’ve been a 25+ year customer. Only because I cannot find another service that is as fast as ComCast (Xfinity) They won’t guarantee if your using your own equipment
Comcast Guy The Comcast Guy do you sell speed? And if you do as advertised says you do
@@Mike_The_Hog_A_Nator they will guarantee hardline but not wifi even with comcast equipment and that is because wifi is based on makeup of the house and your equipment. gigabit we also have a disclosure that the modem will get 1gig speed not necessarily your device.
Still got the xb3 and the plan says up to 300 but I never get above 70 WiFi
The device you are using to do a speed test is can limit the network speed reported. Factors like network card or the radio in a mobile device also can reduce the speed reported. Distance from the router as well. The farther away or more walls the slower / weaker the signal. Lastly the band being used. 2.4ghz is slower but better distance. 5ghz is much faster but limited range. We have Xfinity and have never come close to our advertised speeds.
So you have the exact speed right now wane? When you connect to 5ghz?
Yandei Estrada i made this video in March. My speeds increased after it was set up correctly with a tech coming out and doing whatever they had to do and upgrading my service plan to the 1gig.
did you ever get a rep out and did your speeds change? just got this router aswell and getting the same speeds 300 down 12 up
justblaze152 not yet. They gave me one some years ago in the basement and i totally forgot i had it.
will do so man got a rep coming in a couple days so hopefully they could get those speeds what their supposed to be thanks for the reply and hope all goes well for you as well. will check for you vid
justblaze152 thanks. No problem. Let me know how it goes.
It's still downloading firmware. Plus what is your actual speed tier that's in your plan
I'm getting about 315 Mbs using Speedtest on my iPhone 6s. I get about 473 Mbs on my MacBook Pro. I just upgraded to the XB6 yesterday.
Did you try plugging in an Ethernet cable to your MacBook? If so what did you get?
wait you are hooked up to the 2.4 network coming out that xb6 when you hook up to the 5 network you will get about 400 on your phone but you have to go in the app setting to make the speedtest do half a gig down load now to get the gig speed you need 1. ethernet cord and 2. you need to have 5-10 gig network card because a normal bought pc come with only a 1 gig network card that tops out at a half gig
This is an example of: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
A-Dubb Productions Allan Wade the upload speeds are just brutal I don’t know how I pay $160+ for 6mbps
Same rental cost
I Absolutely Agree . Gonna keep my old one for now. I am 60 years of age, I am satisfied with what I have. I came up in a time when none of this was available.
"If it is not broke"... Don't Fix it!
You guys got the saying wrong. It’s “if it ain’t broke, fix it til it is”
Allan, have you tried to run a speedtest on a laptop or desktop via "wired connection"?
Yes. Connected to the 5ghz port i get super fast 900plus mbps download speeds. So i am getting extremely close to what i payed for consistently.
What color was the light on the back the one on top of the coaxial cable and was it flashing?
I get 508 megs down with for the same modem you just added and 18.0 megs up.
make sure that the power cable provides the same amount of V that makes a difference. also it is just better to buy a separate modem and router if you want better performance. plus you'll save money.
Can we buy the xb3 from Comcast ?? Cause I don’t wanna rent one from them
You were getting 299 because we provision the modem ~25% more than the speed you pay for. 299 was on the high end for 250 but I see it all the time its higher than normal. But with 250 you should always cap out around 275
What kind of camera do you need for xb6
This xb6a is designed to work witb the pods if you have trouble wifi spots in your home and that you have more control options through all devices connected to wifi
Thanks, I’m gonna get a set tomorrow. Been wanting to try them out. How do you like them?
Wait so if comcast has one in stock they will send me the upgrade for free?
Tiffany Hilliard yes.
@@adubbproductions IF YOUR ACCOUNT CALLS FOR IT THEY WILL NOT SEND ONE IF YOUR SPEED ISNT HIGHER THAN 250MBPS
They'll give you a hard time in the store if you want one and don't have the 1GB plan
I’m not sure what they do now but around the time when i made this video i go it with no issue and i didn’t have the gig plan.
What speed test app is that
Will Killa It’s Speedtest by ookla in the App Store.
what is antenna range of both and lowe limit ae 2 walls 20ft
I paid for 250mbs and I get 260mbs sometimes 270mbs!!! I have my own modem and my own router, both separate. So yes you can have that speed thru wifi
That’s awesome. Always good to get more than you pay for.
As long as it works for your needs that’s all you need. Thank you for your input and thank you for watching the video. Don’t forget to subscribe.
Did you try it with the new coaxial cable?
No problem man. Thanks for watching. I appreciate it. I’ll make an updated video this week.
Plus there are very few web sites and devices aren't capable of 1gig and those sites that are dont want you hitting there sites at that speed, call for a appointment techs(I am one) have and device that will let you see the true speeds you are getting
Good Insight. Thank you for that.
I was just about say the same thing. I have to tell my customers the same thing when I'm installing Comcast. Plus you on wifi. Test it on hardline
D Redman u stupid? Since when do websites decided if they take gigabit WiFi or not. Lmao learn your shit kid
Hey, I’m looking into Xfi Complete and wanted to know if I have to get a xb6 or can I keep my xb3 (it still works great for me)
Can prepaid xfinity customers get the xb6 upgrade aswell?
Do u have to have a certain speed trot with Xfinity to upgrade to this
Reginald Mathis I’m sorry I’m not understanding your question. What is a speed trot?
Blast 250 and higher
400mbps in the interim it depends on the area when the 1gig fully launches.
so let me get this right your plan say you get 250 mps down and you test the speed and you getting 280 plus mps is that right ? I am going to say you got more then what you paid for.
I got the 1GB xb6 and I’m only getting about 50Mpbs and I’ve swapped out my device multiple times trying to get a better speed and now I don’t know what to do because I need better internet and no one knows how to help me.
Make sure you change the server, try different ones. I get ~200Mbps on my local Comcast server. Speedtest.net server pulls 460Mbps on my xb6. Over WiFi.
I have both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz with 2.4 I have over 250+ and with my 5Ghz I get 450+ I also have the upgrade speed
It also matters what area you live in xfinity is also upgrading their areas at least in my area they are.
What speed were you paying for before you upgrade to 1G?
What plan do you use?
Guys I got AT&T but I'm Not sure, do you recommend me comcast?? Anyone that had have AT&T before and changed to comcast 🙏
Xfinity battery sales phone number: 1-888-972-1261
Also note: if you use cordless phones be sure the base stations are backed up on a UPS.
My battery comments for XB9 should have said XB6. In any case I have Xfinity battery backup device for my XB6.
(I would know I work for the company 4 years now)
OK so I just got mine have not plugged it in any suggestions
I switch just for the unlimited internet option. Since I was going over the 970ish GB they offered
This sounds like placebo, the fact that you're claiming your internet speeds made your computer faster is a big red flag.
Newark, DE! When I do a speedtest (I live in Milford) I get a better ping and download speed in Baltimore then I do Newark. I just upgraded to gigabit today, will be installed tomorrow.
sorry, New Castle, not Newark
Its called provisioning not calabration we provision the bootfile to give u the speed tier we say a certain speed but it COULD be higher but it has WAY to many variables on wifi we ALWAYS recommend to do a speed test hardwired
When the light on top is flashing, u have to wait cause the modem is downloading a firmware
But.........i dont want to wait
Thanks. I had no idea. I appreciate that.
Thank you for sharing this video! Only Two ethernet ports automatically disqualifies this. They need at least 6 ports.
I picked up an ethernet 5 port hub for less than $20. Until i gt the hub, the XB6 was a no go for me as well.
As a Comcast tech they shouldn’t have given you that in the first place second just cause the gig speed is offered it depends in your area a tech would have to make sure your area has been upgraded to handle the speed know this had a problem later as he have home security it will not work
