Great video Richie and Maybelle, loads of really useful information and that Homa place looks like a really good find. Definitely going to have a look at that.

Great Video, I agree you can be thrifty at times and splurge to enjoy. So many people put out video like you can live on 800, 900, 1,200 USD, it nice seeing some real info. I am budgeting 2k USD per month, with the ability to adjust up if needed. Can't wait to arrive

Exactly right. If one is prepared to throw off the shackles of a western way of life and live like a local, eat like a local and behave like a local a low budget will spread far. The budgets of sexaholics , alcoholics and western food cravers will not last long unless they have very deep pockets.

I agree, 60,000 baht per month is a livable budget for most people, some can do it for less of course, and some spend much more, but as a good average, 60,000 sounds about right. I will be retiring to Thailand next year, and my budget is slightly more at 65,000 baht per month.
@Alex Arthur Because you can live within your means. Without a family you don't need a posh house or apartment, you can eat street food and only paying for 1. Thailand get expensive when you 'don't live Thai' and I hate using that phrase because most of the Thai I know are rich, drive BMW and each in expensive restaurants wear £20,000 watches. So a car is 3 times the value of Europe, is you want a BMW it's £60,000 for example. My daughter's school is 500,000B a year. £13,000. Supermarket shopping is more expensive than UK.
@@benrawson007I think if you don’t go for the overpriced luxury lifestyle it’s possible but if I go to Thailand I want to have the same or even better lifestyle than here in Europe. With a budget around 100k to 200k THB you can have a really good (western) lifestyle at least that’s my experience. I don’t buy stuff, I rent it (condos, cars…) but actually a cab is much cheaper than a luxury car, so why even buy one? I target Thailand as travel destination and later as a pension domicile. Here in Switzerland 🇨🇭 school is for free, even the university is free as long as you meet the requirements (grades). There is no reason to go to Thailand before pension. Luckily Swiss pensions are high, around 200k THB monthly is usual. Alternatively you can go to Vietnam, it’s around 30% to 40% cheaper than Thailand (for now).

I came to live here 6 months before my retirement on oct the first with 8000 euros and started to get my pension on may this year. AS YOU SAID, I prefered to be careful. There are apartments in Phuket for 2500/month. I lived in one for 2 years and it's across from PTT gas station in Thalang on Phuket main road. If you're a Westerner who don't mind living among the local Thais, you can definitely get by just fine if you live like an average Thai person does with just 10000thb/month. Also, you don't need a car in Thailand especially on an island. If you want a better, newer and cleaner apt, there are 1 bedroom 1 bath in Manik, 10 mins from Cherng Talay/Laguna, is 3200-3500 a month. Obviously, all the neighbors will be Thai which makes being here even more lovely. A meal is between 40-50 baht and much cheaper if you cook. Electricity is roughly 8-900 baht a month for me and I work as a 3d artist so my computer is on all day. With A/C on in summer though I use it sparingly, the bills are usually 12-1600thb/month. Ask any Thai person and they'll tell you 60k thb/mo or 1000 a day is luxury living any where in Thailand.
