Hey Richie. Found the channel a week ago, been watching all the videos. Love the positive vibes. Thanks for sharing all the info and showing us everything. Wish you all the best and I hope you succeed! If I go on a holiday in Thailand I'll come by for a coffee! 😎
It can be very difficult living in Thailand. Thailand being one of the biggest tourist spots in the worlds. Many people come on holiday and party hard for a few weeks then go home. They want you to join them. The problem when one group goes home there is a new one arriving wanting you to join them. Great video Richie, some great tips.
Richie, G R E A T advise I lived In Indonesia for 10 years. EVERYTHING you said is Soooooo TRUE, it is called going TROPPO!! I L OV E D my time there but people DO lose the plot, so easy to stay in holiday mode!! STILL LOVING all your videos. Thks. Karen
I like you and I wanted to move to Thailand since 2014. I met and married a Thai girl and she is becoming a citizen now. She don't want to move back to Thailand till I stop drinking 😒 I work 70 hrs a week at 150k a yr. 20 yrs at ups with a pension I am really getting close to moving there. I won't go till we have 500k in savings, my 2k a month pension , and my 2k a month in social security. So I will wait 2 more years. But when we do we will have 4k a month income and 500k in savings.
You're spot on! I'm retired and have been here in Patong for 9 months. I've come to the same conclusions. I've a nice woman with a job. Stopped spending ridiculous money in bars even if I still enjoy the bar scene but not on Bangla. I'm going to spend a few hours a day analysing the stock market. Do a lot of walking every day trying to reach the goals I set in my step app. Thanks for a great video and good luck. 👍
I daytrade stocks for a living. All you need is max 1 hour at the opening of the stock market. And thats only on the days you choose to trade. Of course it depends on the trading strategy you utilise. I do gap and momentum trading on large cap liquid american stocks on NYSE and nasdaq. See you👍😀
Awesome 🤝🏼 Let's say I'd want to move there with my wife, is Patong safe? Could she go out (errands, gym...) alone? Is it clean? Are locals friendly? Sorry for bombarding you
@@modern.performer I've never felt unsafe. There are many women walking around here on their own. But if Patong is right for you I can't say. There's a lot of haggling in the streets from massage parlors, taxi drivers, etc.
I really loved this video , awesome advice for anyone wanting to improve their life physically, mentally and spiritually no matter where you are. Thankyou Richie and Maybelle for all your videos, I'm enjoying them immensely🙏🥰
That is why this is such a great vlog to follow. You have always been so honest with what is going on, what things cost etc. It makes it so easy for someone to watch Richie and Maybelle and understand how they could live in Thailand. Thank you both.
Great videos and spot on about the mistakes. I’m retired and I met a great Thai woman but instead of moving there I brought her back to Canada. Sponsored her and now she has her Permanent Resident card so we can come and go at will. She has work in local Thai restaurants so she makes her own money here. She still has her own house in Thailand where we stay so no problems. We were in Phuket in June and tried to get to your cafe but the timing didn’t work out unfortunately. Good luck with all your endeavours.
Richie, I unfortunately have a piss poor outlook on life, so that tends to make me very envious of your positive attitude, willingness to learn from mistakes and your strength to soldier on. You seem to have the guts and willingness to keep plugging away no matter what comes before you. The one move you hit a home run on (obviously a yank) is loving & being loved by Maybelle. She is such a very attractive lady with a contagious smile & laugh. Best wishes & blessings on you both!!
Hi Richie it's Jeff I came to yours and Maybelles coffee shop and had enjoyed meeting you both, trip 16 was an eye opener this time and your advice is precious possibility going to move to udunthani in the near future but we will have to come down to Phuket for a coffee and a chat, as it was great talking to you. Anyway back here in Oz and it's bloody cold still and back at work, take care.
Bang on Richie I can relate to what your saying Allow I have not retired to Thailand yet but spent many years in Thailand and have met people who have hit Rock bottom so happy you shared it let’s hope it hits home to the people who are on the edge cheers dave
Great advice. I’ve just got here and I’ve quit booze. Before I got here I quit booze and smoking year on year off. The years when I wasn’t drinking, I ran 4350km in the year, 7 marathons back to back in 7 days, 18 marathons in the year and I also pretty much didn’t spend a penny. I saved the money and bought a house mortgage free. I did this twice and it’s helped me as part of my passive income to retire at 39 years old…I also have a military pension which goes a long way. 😂 I’m coming down your way in a few weeks. Looking forward to one of those buddy breakfasts. 🤙
You settled on Greed Island! Very expensive place to try and exist on a limited budget! I lived in Phuket for 9 years from the mid 80's till mid 90's. So glad I got out to a quieter less intensive area --with opportunities to meet genuine Thai people--something that can be hard to find in Phuket! Farangs are only wanted there to spend holiday money then leave--we are not liked when trying to remain there! Trust me I have learned that lesson!
Hi Richie, great Video with some good advice, not sure you remember me Irish Paul we drop in to see you at the coffee shop a couple times and hire a coupe motor scooters in December 2021. It was good to finally meet you and Maybelle after following you on your Vlogs for a long time. I am a little older than you ( HaHa ) just a little so iv got a little more experience of life and Thailand but was very lucky to meet a beautiful Thai Lady my wife of 27years who also has my back and fully supports me. You got to make more good decisions than bad and learn from them and move on you can’t change the passed but you can the future. Keep up the great work. Cheers Irish Paul
Good stuff, Richie. Lets start a morning (or evening) fitness club. An hour on the beach, or walking the blocks, or throwing dumbbells... thats a great vice (: My biggest mistake so far is the driving adjustment. Damaged a rental week 2, and my personal car week 9.
I'm planning on visiting Thailand again this year ... thanks for sharing ..waiting to hear about your business experience..maybe Thailand my retirement state
cold weather make people feel unrefreshed and stressful Unlike the warm weather and the sound of waves and wind in the sea. Make the mind calm and refreshed, feel less stressed. and more relaxed.
Thank you, Richie, for your honesty. Thailand ca be a trap for many people with drinking and bar girls. Thank you again. You found such a great honest lady. Have a great day Jeff
Richie. Liked the comment about looking for a diamond. I spent many years online dating and met hundreds of women. None was really a good fit. But you have to keep going and travel distances if you really want to find them. Expecting your life partner to be in a 25-mile radius is not practical or realistic. You have to be prepared to sacrifice and move if needed. I believe I found mine in Thailand. It took me 21 hours to get there but it was soooo worth it. Cheers to you!
Well said Richie.. love your honest approach in life. You remind me of a very young version of my dad. “Have a go, fail and get off your arse” he would say. Only seeing the wisdom of that now. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi Richie and Maybelle We are coming to Phuket in February, and sure we will visit your cafe.Love watching your videos, well done man,u have achieved loads, congrats 👏 We are planning semi retirement in couple years in Thailand 😁 Best wishes from Worcestershire xx
I travel constantly and the first few days in a new country or city are the ones I need to watch my spending until I get the lay of the land and find my comfort budget again. Often I do not realize just around the corner prices and options that I like better. I also find adapting to new surroundings require some patience.
Great, honest video Richie. Most definitely you should price things in Baht, forget Sterling forever. You're earning Baht, so therefore you should spend in Baht. Absolutely, you should prioritise your health and fitness. Regular exercise, eating healthy (with the occasional blow out of course). With regards to alcohol, have a blow out once per week. You'll enjoy it so much more when you only partake occasionally, as opposed to daily. Not only will these steps maintain your bank account, but they'll also maintain your health and fitness. After all, the better shape that your are health wise, as well as financially, the longer your life is going to be in the beautiful paradise that is Thailand. These are the steps that I fully intend on following when I retire in Thailand. You've got a great girl there in Maybelle, she really is a diamond. I can't tell you what an inspiration you've been to me following your journey. Absolutely massive. As always, I look forward to the next video. Sounds interesting.
The three mistakes you mentioned I believe are common when a person travels to a Vacation Destination. If you go live across town back home nothing really changes except your apartment. So its life as usual. If you relocate to another city in your home country you spend time and mo ey getting to omow your new surroundings. But if you relocate to a Vacation Destination and start out on Holiday, then it becomes difficult to switch off the Holiday side and get back to work. Lets face it - being on Holiday is a lot more Fun !! But recognizing what you need to change and getting back on track is key and you have done that. We're they really mistakes? Or did you need to get that out of your system to prepare for a more sensable life?
I’ve been watching your videos since before you got married I don’t comment offen but you are 100% correct there’s no better lesson then falling flat on your face cheers 👍
100% so so true.10 years I stay Phuket went back home skin but now only got 20,000 to 30,000 pounds thinking of coming back and do the way you say now let my lesson might have to meet up with you and have a chat good man
Hi guys. Just a comment regarding your writers/Video block situation. One of the best pieces of advice for you tubers I can give is that people are invested in you and not really what you show. Don't feel like you need to do something each video. People are watching because of you two and your life, and after meeting you two in November 2021 I can see why. Please don't feel pressure to produce bangers, people really underestimate the power of a Vlog about your daily life and the way you live.
I worked hard for over 30 yrs retired at 47 live in isaan as you may know, 4 months, biggest obstacle I don't speak Thai, that's the main one, I relate to your other points, it's about balance, my wife helps a lot lol.. 🇹🇭💯
Richie, you don’t need to be in beautiful Thailand 🇹🇭 to lose focus on those three things you mentioned in this vlog. I think you’re correct to provide the advice however. I’m in Australia and I’m planning to visit Thailand again soon such a beautiful place. Thanks good vlog.
Yes But living in Phuket ,Pattaya and other party type towns, without family and long time friends It's very easy to hide and and be accepted as a drug addict or alcoholic Your just another farang living the life ! and thousands of others doing the same
Great video, you touched on every concern I have for myself heading back in October for 3 months, then doing permanent move next year. This trip i want to treat half my time like a holiday and the other half life living real life.
You & Maybelle make an awesome team together Ritchie! My husband and I met you guys in February this year and from an outside looking in, you two are successful! You have such a beautiful cafe and we’re so glad we were able to check it out in person 😊 Also- great tips you’ve given on this video 😉 Thanks for sharing 🙏🏼
Every word , you have said is true if you learn from your mistakes, you'll get there in the end, just don't make to many 🙂 all good advice, keep it up 👍😎 see you soon
Right on spot. I follow many famous bloggers who allways seems to compare prices in Thailand, with prices in their own countries. So irritating, when they know so well a normal thai worker owns about 300 baht a day and some even less. It must be a shock for those who moves permanent to Thailand and think they can live like on holiday every day. I really don’t understand the few who can, and talk about downsizing life. It’s a luxury life for most subscribers.
Gotta admit I was going down same path especially with me living in small non tourist town Another was lazyness but now everything sorted and life couldn't be better Like yourself Ritchie I've good woman been married 33 years Money wise I'm secure but I know shit could hit the fan anytime and I'll deal with it if and when it happens I'm definitely living the dream
Interesting that you suggested it's not based on money - not to suggest anything else but I wonder who funded the situation you are in as a couple? Thais I met outside of the bar/tourist scene have almost all been generally good people but will work hard and many are happy to do dodgy things to make money, however a good amount of the cash is used to help support family... Phuket is unfortunately more corrupt in many ways than most other parts of Thailand... No issues if you have plenty of $$$ to waste but I don't think I could live there. I do totally agree on bettering yourself regardless of where you are and avoiding vices, although I do enjoy a drink or ten way too often... Cash wise these days I imagine a move to most places in Thailand would be fairly significant based on visas, medical/other insurances, etc.
@@mixalis6168 Really? I thought for a retirement visa you need to keep 800k baht in an account untouched or prove an income of 65000baht per month. Medical insurance varies but I'd assume around 3000 baht per month - rent 15000+ I guess it depends if you are lucky enough to have a gov pension that allows claims while overseas or enough saved cash to sustain yourself for a lot of years it's not so expensive... Most suggest at least 20000 baht per month is required to live ok which when not working and no gov pension is a good amount of money
That was interesting, change your home phone to a pay as you go sim! Because you will need it for your banking. I guess you mean the mobile phone so that the online app will still work? Hadn't thought of that as a simple fix to a potential issue. 🤔
100% you are Right Richie, I see guys at Bar every day drinking you need a hobby, do something, otherwise get bored and go Drink. lol. I just spent 52 days in Thailand and i was supposed to see how much it would cost $ me to retire there and yes i had a GF all the time I went to gym 4 x times walked about 5x times for exercise. Was hard to get out of a holiday mode eat out way too much, Drink twice a week big nights, Brought to many lady drinks.. But i did learn a lot which i do every trip since 2012.Week 3 i was going live each day like i was FT living there street food etc.. Lasted 2 x days lol and BORDOM was a big factor. Home now but will be back in 4 months...I did sus out some cheap accommodations.
You and Maybelle have been such an inspiration. I’m traveling to Phuket in October! Maybelles coffee garden is on the bucket list ! For a proper English breakfast. I sincerely hope to meet you both there. Your videos give anyone interested in Thailand the hope of living the dream 😊🇹🇭
On the good woman, I met my wife in Sth America and we are still together 18 years later. She is amazing. I would find it hard to be with a woman from my home country now, they have forgotten how to be feminine and supportive. And on the thinking in local prices - I just moved to Madrid from Sydney... the cost of living is cheaper but it's too easy to blow through money and I am just realising we need to start thinking like Spaniards. e.g. ordering the drink and getting the free tapas as part of getting the drink. Not as we've been doing and ordering the drink and then ordering the food as well.
There's a difference between knowing how to think to get to the bottom of things and becoming it's master and not thinking because one doesn't know how or is afraid to think and afraid to get to the bottom of things.
Tip #1 is very true if you've been here some time... Prices to the UK vary, I got caught up on converting money too... Tip #2 vices can be easily fallen into without discipline and a purpose. See you and Maybelle's soon bro

Ha! Your voice reminds me of Donald Pleasence in Halloween 2. Not a slight, something to be proud of.
Nice one mate 👍
Great points 👍
Wise words Richie 💪👍
There is a saying and it works well when you have a budget
Buy What You Need & Not What You Want
All good points, regardless of where you live...Be well and stay safe.
😊
Come on richie!!! Where is our shout out from you, for Josie and Mike from sydney xx
Top notch video
Right on spot. I follow many famous bloggers who allways seems to compare prices in Thailand, with prices in their own countries. So irritating, when they know so well a normal thai worker owns about 300 baht a day and some even less. It must be a shock for those who moves permanent to Thailand and think they can live like on holiday every day. I really don’t understand the few who can, and talk about downsizing life. It’s a luxury life for most subscribers.
Mate you are doing amazing over there
Good Vid ,Haha I do that in reverse before buying something I convert to how many baht as I'm coming back
Wise words Richie
Gotta admit I was going down same path especially with me living in small non tourist town Another was lazyness but now everything sorted and life couldn't be better Like yourself Ritchie I've good woman been married 33 years Money wise I'm secure but I know shit could hit the fan anytime and I'll deal with it if and when it happens I'm definitely living the dream
Cost /price of goods in thailand vs uk...depends if it is local produced or imported items.
Very good point. I was coming to comment on something similar.
If you cant retire in Thailand, then you cant retire anywhere! Its no expensive, visas do no cost much, medical insurance is not expensive and so on !
well spoken, greetings from Khuek Khak, sawasdee !
100% you are Right Richie, I see guys at Bar every day drinking you need a hobby, do something, otherwise get bored and go Drink. lol.
I just spent 52 days in Thailand and i was supposed to see how much it would cost $ me to retire there and yes i had a GF all the time
I went to gym 4 x times walked about 5x times for exercise.
What about learning Thai Sir?
Is that something worthwhile doing for being there for good?
Learning a different language can be difficult for some people. It depends on how comfortable you are in learning a different language I think.
1. Agreed. 2. Yes. 3. Yes.
Don’t over think it is a very important thing to do, nice video Richie
There's a difference between knowing how to think to get to the bottom of things and becoming it's master and not thinking because one doesn't know how or is afraid to think and afraid to get to the bottom of things.
Tip #1 is very true if you've been here some time... Prices to the UK vary, I got caught up on converting money too...
Tip #2 vices can be easily fallen into without discipline and a purpose.
See you and Maybelle's soon bro
What beach was that in the opening scene?
