    Great video. I’m picking up mine in two days. It was nice seeing the initial start.

    Thanks Curtis. Just got the 34 ton Champion at Home Depot today. 65 years old and I am officially done splitting wood by hand! I'm sure the set-up is very similar.

      Enjoy! I’m sure it’s pretty similar on the setup. I would have gone with the 34 ton, but they didn’t have it in at that point.

    Thanks for the demonstration and commentary, much appreciated. I have this model and am getting ready to set up for use.. We don't have any oak so should be okay...

    Aside from the 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back watching you fill oil ...decent video.

    Champion makes decent stuff. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Love the side ramps…those will be very helpful! There are after market attachments that fit most splitters…a four way wedge among them. I’ll admit, there been several million times I’ve said a four way is my next purchase!!🤣
    You may find shutting you gas off and letting it run dry helps on restarts later. I have a dirty hands snd the carbs are horrible! I find myself often taking the bowl off to clean the carb to get it running again.

    • @Curtis1824

      Four way wedge would be great! I always shut the gas off and let it run dry. Definitely helps especially on those cold days!

      @@Curtis1824 Doesn't it have 2 oil outlets on it. ONE IN THE FRONT ALSO

    I have the sane one, I brought mine from Home Depot. The only thing is that that guy that worked there installed two of the Hyd. hoses up wrong. I could have gotten hurt, because he did not know how to read the instruction, I guess. I wish they made a 4 way wedge. I have a pc of wood come off and dent my gas tank. Champion Customers service is Great.

    • @stanleykeith6969
      @stanleykeith6969 2 года назад

      A little hint, always run Sea Foam in your gas. I called Champion and they do not recommend a 4 way wedge. I have also added a cover over my engine, because I have had wood fall off and dent the gats tank and on the other side I made a cover for the oil filter and pump. Other than a few problems, its doing good.

    • @Curtis1824
      @Curtis1824  2 года назад

      I got mine at Home Depot as well. No issues with my hoses thankfully. I believe you can get a 4 way wedge and add it on. I've also seen some people make them. I'll probably do that one of these days. I also want to extend the "table" the wood sits on and guard the engine and hydraulic filter. Thanks for watching!

    I have the 34 ton 1, bought it from Home Depot, I love it, but don’t leave it outside in the rain, it fills up air box & cylinder with water, besides that it’s great

    I could help but notice. That the oil filter is turned in the up position. According to the manual, it should be turned in the down position.

    I have heard that you should never use teflon tape on any fitting used for hydraulic fittings, you run the risk of contaminating the hydraulic fluid.

    • @Curtis1824
      @Curtis1824  2 года назад +1

      Makes sense! Wonder why they give it to you to use? Cheap and probably don't care what happens afterward.

      @@Curtis1824 Yeah, I don’t know, I bet you don’t see any being used on their fittings! Maybe it is a Home Depot thing!

    Hello, do you have to fill both engine oils? I have 2 places to check oil

    • @Curtis1824
      @Curtis1824  Год назад

      I think one is engine oil and one is hydraulic oil right? Or do you have two places to check on the engine?

    • @Burkyboy48
      @Burkyboy48 Год назад

      I have 2 places to check my engine oil. One of them didn’t show any oil so I added some to it, then I check the other one and it seemed that one was over flowing. I don’t know if they are connected or not

    • @Curtis1824
      @Curtis1824  Год назад

      Check the manual for the type you have to make sure. You don’t want to overfill it. The lower one on mine is yellow and has a short dip stick attached to it for checking the oil.

    • @Burkyboy48
      @Burkyboy48 Год назад

      Yeah the manual only shows 1 oil dip stick

    I'm picking this up at H.D. tomorrow and we have really hard oak up here and don't always have time to season the wood before splitting...would you recommend the 34 ton instead of the 27?

    • @Curtis1824
      @Curtis1824  11 месяцев назад +1

      I'm always a fan of more power! I've found it easier to split non seasoned wood than seasoned. Too hard when it's dried out.

  • @stanleykeith6969
    @stanleykeith6969 2 года назад

    Curtis that wood looks very dry and ready to burn. What kind of wood is that? They did fix that fitting on both end to the oil filter and got rid of the hose clamps. One guy have a video out where the hose clamp came off and sprayed him with Hyd. oil. He was very lucky the oil was not very Hot.

    • @Curtis1824
      @Curtis1824  2 года назад

      I’m pretty sure it’s oak. Tree had been dead for a while and it burned really good!

    I was going to use my friend's log splitter, same one as this Champion 27 ton, but has no meter Guage. when I checked the gas in the tank.. it was whitish colored fluid inside the tank... could it be contaminated? Anyways I'm gonna empty it somehow and refill it.

    • @Curtis1824
      @Curtis1824  11 месяцев назад

      I would definitely drain it. You can get a pretty cheap syphon to get the gas out.

      I don’t remember exactly, the oil came with the chipper. I just use regular gas but switch to ethanol free for storage.
