Some of this music isn't Puerto Rican, like the first song, some of these are Cuban rhythms. This is like when you go to a Mexican restaurant and they're playing bachata instead of ranchera or corridos. Still in 2023 people lump us all together. Real Puerto Rican music is artists like Ismael Miranda, Jose Nogueras, Ramiro, Chuito, Tavin Pumarejo even though he's not really a singer but I enjoy his performances. I mean there are hundreds of Puerto Rican artists that sing Puerto Rican music. I skimmed a few songs and didn't hear a _quatro_ in the band.
Its actually a bit more like if you go to a Mexican restaurant and they are playing son jarocho, which is Mexican but highly influenced by Cuban music. Puerto Rican music is also highly influenced by Cuban music, which is why Puerto Rican icons such as Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, El Gran Combo, Ismael Rivera, and many others largely play music that is essentially Afro-Cuban in its root, but has been adopted by Puerto Ricans and is important to their own musical and cultural identity as well. Salsa, after all, is basically Cuban son that was adopted, urbanized and developed by Puerto Ricans, Dominicans and others in New York in the 1950s and 60s. There are plenty of cuatros on this album as well. Check the Andrés Jimenez, Ramito, Pepe Castillo (his band is even called "Cuatromania"!) and others. There is also bomba, plena, musica jíbara and other more traditional Puerto Rican styles on here too. Just thought we would set the record straight!
@@PutumayoWorldMusic You didn't set the record straight, you broke it. LOL I said "SOME" of the music. Not all. You're not one for fine print, I can tell. It's OK, vast majority of people don't read fine print and that's what gets them in trouble. This upload was suggested and I admit I haven't had time to listen to every, single, song. But I'm just saying, for example that first song, ain't to way I'm going to my Puerto Rican's side of the family for a gathering and they will be playing something like this. Zeroooooo chance. Just because the artist may have been born in Puerto Rico doesn't make it Puerto Rican music.
@@justacinnamonbun8658 I hope you do get a chance to listen to the full album and that you feel better about it by the end. Our albums are intended as jumping off points. We hope our listeners can deepen their explorations of Puerto Rican music and discover even more about the music, food, history, culture and more. We know that the entirety of such a rich and diverse culture could never be captured in an hour long record. And in defense of the great Eddie Palmieri, we're sure he is a proud boricua and his music would be part of the soundtrack of many Puerto Rican homes, although perhaps not yours.

Exactly what I was thinking when I heard the first song…it’s Cuban!
Borinquen is puerto rico not cuba look it up
