The movie was absolutely beautiful. There’s so many hidden things in the writing that you really have to pay attention. Looking forward to watching it again.

like how in one of the flashback scenes Varrick tells KATE how a gunshot to the stomach means its personal (they want you to die slow, grueling deaths) and it's exactly where they end up shooting one another in the final face off
When you say "ending explained" I thought it would talk about the ending. For those wondering, Kate said "I know you," it was referencing 2 points. 1) She realized despite not wanting to know Ani, she did through the short course of time. This was reflected during the time after Ani shot her. The sunglasses, the shirt, etc... all the quirkiness of Ani which she found annoying at first, but instead it broke Kate down from the harden trained assassin to who Kate really was inside, a child that never had a chance to grow up. This is why she is obsessed with Boom Boom Lemon, which even Ani find stupid and childish. 2) She also realize in that final flashback that Ani was actually herself. She too lost her parents at an early age and had all that rage she saw in Ani. And she saw Ani going with Varrick, the same way she did. So she does know Ani, b/c Ani is herself. The 2 reasons above combines to the final scene. The reason Kate went to save Ani is because Ani is pretty much Kate's only real friend and more so her only experience at a "normal life." But the more important part was the fact saving Ani, Kate was in fact, saving herself. This was reflected in 2 ways, first being saving Ani from the same fate she went through at her age, but also saving Ani as a means of redemption for her sin in murdering Ani's father. So the last ending is expressing she completed her mission, which was to free Ani from the cycle which Kate went through. And doing so, Kate saved Ani's spirit from becoming embittered like her. Since Kate sees Ani in herself, in fact, she was saving her own spirit and as such, Kate's death was insignificant because her spirit lived on in Ani.
Kate's last words: "I know you." was also a response to what Ani said in the car: "Your last day and you don't want to get to know me? That's just... so sad."
Having Woody as the mentor was kind of a giveaway. He has had several movies where he seems like a nice guy but betrays his friends. But I will watch it again because it was such a iconic action movie. Perhaps you could do a prequel?
It was a great cameo! I also appreciated seeing actors I recognized from other things like Kamen Rider. And the clip of Message From Space that played in one scene.
Pretty good flick if a tiny bit formulaic. I was expecting a last minute save but as they stuck to their guns and had Kate die. Now please cast Mary as Amanda Ripley in a alien movie. Hell, she'd make a pretty awesome Ellen.
This has to be one of the best action films out there! The story is pretty basic but that's.the.thing. It doesn't have to be anything special, its an action film, what's important here is the ACTION, too much dialog and bla bla would just brake this momentum and this rush the movie creates! Kate has only 24 hours to live and she doesn't have any time to waste and you really feel that while watching. This film actually keeps you on your toes because, the action scenes are SO consistent and SO well made, choreographed and directed that i was excited throughout the whole thing. Most of the action movies that have released this past few years are just boring and lack the creativity in the action department...but in this movie watching Kate kick ass, gruesomely stab people (a LOT) and trying to flee from bad guys is such a wild ride! For me this movie is easily a classic, like John Wick kinda classic. Would love to see a Kate 2 which would be a prequel i guess given the ending... :D Edit: Whoever is responsible for the -Kate entering the scene rocking a cute shirt, sunglasses and a cigarette ready to cause mayhem- scene I hope you have a good day and that you get a raise

Besides being an unassuming beautiful classy lady she is also very talented. I just don't know why she can't land a real juicy leading role in a top movie. I know I saw in an earlier interview that she said she wasn't willing to sleep her way to the top. Maybe the powers at be won't move her forward - what a shame! Her beauty and aura remind me so much of an another beautiful talented lady Laura Linney. They both have the eyes and smile to die for! I just hope she lands the roles she deserves and the trajectory in her career that Laura Linney has had!
I would love to see Mary do a film with Laura Linney. The backdrop could be a southern family from Georgia where Mary plays Laura's daughter. The premise of the film could be the dynamics of a family and the trials and tribulations of Mary the daughter and the affect on Laura's life and how these issues get resolved. I've heard Laura's Georgia accent and she would be perfect. I've never heard Mary do an accent but I'm sure she could do it. Screenwriters start getting busy on the script!

When kijima killed renji i swear i squealed! It was so fuckin badass. I really didnt expect it (to be that fast). And my favourite scene is the one where she enters with the glasses and the cigarette. This is definitely in my top 10 movies and top 3 action movies.
It was actually a hit and miss. I mean it is totally badass, but for the theme of the movie and the culmination of that scene, one detail was off which kinda ruined it. One of the main theme of this film is about her lost childhood and a desire for normal life. This led to the revelation of the ending when she realized Ani was her only friend and the short time she spent with her, all of Ani's silly quirks which annoyed her on the outside were in fact the very thing she wanted. So the final scene, she came in wearing the kawaii big smile shirt, the big silly sunglasses at night, etc... was the pivotal point of the movie where she is a badass killer combined with the girl she never was, but somehow Ani saw in her. So instead of a cigarette, she should be drinking the Boom Boom Lemon. That would've made the scene perfect. Put it this way, it was the most ultimate "don't give a shit badass" entry, where this badass killer can still look cool and badass with a silly shirt and sunglasses, right? Boom Boom Lemon adds to that and completes the picture. A cigarette? Is actually very wrong b/c it is cliche and people already equate it to badass. It didn't fit the scene.

I liked Ani's character alot , Kate was the stellar show point but Ani's dialogues and rough bit abuses were cool how she said it.....Miku's voice is awesome.
The movie KATE is a real masterpiece of deconstructing the usual action/thriller. Also, the fact that the relationship between the characters of Kate and Ani was not played off as the simplest type of mother/daughter or sisters, but in the end as something beyond both.
Kate knows it was a setup before the reveal at the end. This is known by Kate pleading with Ani “don’t get in the car”. Otherwise if she still saw V as a trusted friend and mentor she would be telling Ani V is a safe bet. When Kate see’s Ani’s expression she realises straight away V has told details about Osaka to Ani. Kate accepts her fate of death but pleas with Ani “please don’t get in the car” meaning have the same life as me. Makes me wonder if V killed Kates parents and the circle was repeating.
I think you've nailed it. I'm pretty sure it was hinted with a flashback of Kate with her dead mom on the bed, and that the cycle is just repeating itself.

It's actually not V who got her poisened, this Reiji dude just took matters in his own hands. Amongst the many writing flaws I'm baffled why she got poisoned _before_ her hit job on the big mafia guy, putting the whole plan of Reiji and V into peril. Stupid gangsters, eh. Also, V didn't have to pull a weapon on Kate after Kate's backup arrives, since there's no way he's gonna walk out of the building anyway. Instead he could have proven his love for her (-> his final speech) by not drawing his gun after realizing this, bringing some depth to his character and meaning to their relationship. I liked the movie, but issues like these render the film sub-par unfortunately...
The production value was really great. But they could have let her live she's still young. Her body would have stood up her wounds and get a part 2. Maybe Ani-san is the new "Kate"?😉 c maawwn Netflix. 😡
