The lack of interesting and relevant post-match questions in this sport remains disconcerting. It seems to have accelerated within the past few years, and is no wonder why I have such little respect for those holding a press pass.
Could not agree more. Most of them are not journalists, I have to assume. They seem disinterested in both the actual sport and the player in front of them they are interviewing. Tennis is an individual sport and I am sure Wawrinka, in the aftermatch of retiring from a match, is not concerned with Rafa's exploits or Federer's attempts to return to the game. Honestly. :::eyeroll:::
Mate if you ask these players more interesting questions, they will get mad and act condescending asf. So the journalist’s boss is like if you do that I may fire you. So everyone just dances the dance, boring federer gives the same boring low key superior sneak diss answers he’s been giving since 2004 and everyone pretends these guys are interesting when only 1% of them truly are. It’s fine, the tennis quality on court is enough.
@@youngmyth They are not interesting, I agree. Which is why it makes more sense to ask them pointed questions about themselves and their game. Instead of using Wawrinka's return from injury to get yet more column inches about Nadal and Federer, he could've asked Stan about his mental approach to matches these days, or if he plans to make some tweaks to his game to increase his match wins, or what kinds of achievements he's going after (winning 500s? A Masters?), or what his specific preparation plans are for the next tournament. If he wants to ask Stan about the game more broadly, maybe he could ask him what he thinks will get the Next Gen over the line in slams v Big 3/Djoker & Rafa, seeing as he was able to do so multiple times. I think there are lots of inoffensive questions, actually. I'm not disagreeing with your assessment of the players (especially the top guys, as they are pampered and spoiled). I DO think, though, there are ways to make the job of giving a presser less painful (because they hate doing them, obviously) by not boring them to death. Not sure if the press from their own countries is better? Maybe Fed is not a good example because he always talks a lot and likes the sound of his own voice, I reckon, but he always gives long answers when talking to the Swiss press.
Stan was incredible but not as good as Murray. Just because both have won 3 majors don’t mean both are at the same level. BTW Murray was never part of a Big four because there were first big 2 and since 2011 Djokovic have joined Nadal and Federer and there was a big 3.
