When I lived in Jackson county 20 years ago we had one Black kid in the entire middle school, possibly the entire county's school system. He was in special education class and I've always doubted that he actually needed to be in the special education class. I wouldn't be shocked if they used it as a way to keep him segregated from the majority of the school. My family moved to FL in 2004 and I'm so thankful for it because of how much it opened my world view. Sadly the racism in Jackson county is nothing new and I had A LOT to unlearn from living there. When I lived in Jackson county 20 years ago we had one Black kid in the entire middle school, possibly the entire county's school system. He was in special education class and I've always doubted that he actually needed to be in the special education class. I wouldn't be shocked if they used it as a way to keep him segregated from the majority of the school.
My family moved to FL in 2004 and I'm so thankful for it because of how much it opened my world view. Sadly the racism in Jackson county is nothing new and I had A LOT to unlearn from living there. I just hope there are enough kind and sensible people to put this to a stop though I seriously doubt they will.
