- The Black Googler Network presents the creators and cast members from The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl in a conversation with Camille Hearst. We also screened some never-before-seen footage.
Bios:
Issa Rae ("J"): Issa is a producer/director/writer striving to make her mark on the entertainment industry. She received her B.A. from Stanford University, where she produced and directed four theatrical productions, including two stage adaptations of Spike Lee films. Because film was her true passion, she took time off from Stanford to attend the New York Film Academy where she honed her filmmaking skills. Upon graduating, Issa Rae has worked on various music videos and shorts.The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, often referred to as ABG, is Issa Rae's third web series. It has been featured on several sites and publications, including CNN, Huffington Post, The Washington Post, Vibe and Essence magazine.
Tracy Oliver ("Nina"): A South Carolina native, Tracy Oliver came out west to attend Stanford University. After graduation, she received the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Fellowship. In May 2010, Tracy received her M.F.A. from the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. At USC, she wrote and produced the award-winning short film, La Pastisseria, which was accepted into the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival. Her script, Marriage is for White People, received critical acclaim from BET and various media outlets. She is currently represented by CAA and Management 360.
Madison T. Shockley, III ("Fred"): A west Los Angeles native, Madison T. Shockley III dreamt of becoming an artist at such a young age that he taught himself how to play the guitar. A field trip to Sony's recording studio in Santa Monica further cemented his interest in the music industry. Being equally passionate about business, Madison has lead the marketing campaign for a national independent record release and currently owns his own professional recording studio in San Diego. When he is not in the studio, Madison is in Hollywood, networking and developing various entertainment projects.

I used to see these episodes pop on the side all the time when watching vids and never got into this series....finally watched this past week and completely addicted! Looovvve this show! Even though I could definitely see this on HBO or Comedy Central I hope it stays on RUclips so they can maintain creative control. Looking forward to many more seasons of this show so I hope everyone spreads the word and shows the love! : ) And this is off-topic, I think the moderator did a great job hosting

This show is interesting to relate to, amazing, and inspiring in so many ways. I am grateful for this group of people who brought this show to life. Finally, something that's better than majority of these TV shows that are on nowadays. Thank you, ABG cast.

just a word to tracy oliver ... yes you are probably the most hated character on ABG but you gotta know that when someone is disliked that much it means they are playing their role to the 9's. this interview showed a different side of u - that ur actually QUITE far from Nina - and for ppl to "hate" u as much as they do, its a testament to your acting skills. keep doing what ur doing.

I'm glad you didn't have enough money for an animated series because you truly birthed a new found comedic approach for the originality that was not in-placed on screen for people of color. Things always work out like they are suppose to! :) Thanks for your work!!!!!

Very true. Issa& co should not have backed down on that issue either if they are not going to back down on any of the others. I think Mary Clarence's character for example is funny at times but also a bit cynically written.Not all Christians are hypocrites.But since they are taking a pop at every1 it is to be expected. To single out that word -when so many other social groups are more heavily parodied in the show-seems extreme to me. I think Issa got her own back with ep 1 series 2 tho' ;-)
