@@pamelacrom3184 - I love they he is messy. Makes me not scared to go mess up my own kitchen...until my wife sees the mess. I could dirty 5 pots for a one pot meal.

Your Swiss meringue buttercream looks like a fabulous improvement over the old Crisco version my Maine Mother in-law used to make! Her generation also made pie crusts easily using Crisco. Our generation struggles to get the same textures from better ingredients. I think John nails it here.
I’ve been watching whoopie pie videos every now and then for a couple years now, and today I’ve just made them! They look absolutely delicious!!! The cream is also so silky and smooth. Thank you, John for a successfully fun recipe!
I get SO excited whenever you release a new video! Be it desserts, savory treats, drinks, whatever: I have to watch as soon as possible because not only are your recipes great (I've made several of them by now and you've never steered me wrong), but your videos are an absolute joy to watch. Easily one of my favorite channels to binge and I never get tired of your enthusiasm!
We just remodelled our kitchen and instead of only taking 6 weeks as predicted, it took 5 months! Omgosh, so happy when it was finally over! So I understand your joy.
I could be in such a bad mood then one of your videos pop up and 30 seconds later HAPPY❤️ idk what it is but you’re just meant for the camera and its more entertaining knowing how much you just absolutely adore being in the kitchen. Taking pride and knowing you love doing what ya do makes it that much more better to watch. Great stuff
Teacher, Teacher I declare! I bought a whoopie pie pan years ago, and never did anything with it! Been havin a chocolate cravin lately, so nice excuse to make this recipe! Love the dark yellow egg yolks; especially for yellow cake with chocolate frosting! That is a request, by the way. Thanks again for your hard work.
This is the recipe that introduced me to the genius that is John and Preppy Kitchen. I've been binge watching and nobody stop me, please. This is heaven. ❤ Making the whoopie pies w/ Bailey's for the hubs as a Valentine gift. Thank you, John.
I once taught in a rural Indiana town and attended a small church who had a member, Brother Parks, whose sister, Fern, was once the kindergarten teacher for generations of children. Fern had gone blind but was still an inspiration to grown children. Her brother, a health fanatic, raised his own chickens. Now, both were really really old. Anyway, Brother Parks always made it a point to bring me a gift of some of his fresh eggs every Sunday. They were nothing-less-than incredible. The yolks were beyond golden. The whites were never never ever runny. When you have access to such quality eggs as that, they become part of your menu and your lifestyle. Using them just for baking or just for breakfast is almost wasteful. Eggs like that are worthy of dinners ...
I had a big smile on my face when I was watching your video with the chickens, dog and miniature goats -- you look soooo happy. Now I have another big smile on my face watching your enthusiasm for the Whoopee Pies! Look delicious. Could we have a video showing all of your new kitchen? p.s. Who gets to clean all that beautiful copper cookware???
Excellent! Halfed the recipe (made nine mini whoopie pies) and substituted milk for the coffee simply because we were out and added Kahlua as suggested in the recipe online. Used rose water and vanilla for the filling. AMAZING recipe. Thank you!!!
These videos make me so happy. I smile and chuckle at how happy he is to share these videos with us. And I absolutely love that he leaves in the little messes and missteps letting is know that like us he's imperfect but doesn't let it get him down. Keep 'em coming John, we'll keep watching.
In 1986 I worked in a bakery in downtown Portland, Maine, in which I had my first whoopie pie. The cakes were very much like yours but the filling was an ermine buttercream made with vegetable shortening instead of butter. Hey, it was the 1980s. It was fantastic! I would probably like it less - and yours more - now.
I'm glad that he was happy when he used the Bailey's irish cream, because as an irish individual, that pleases the people of ireland. Good for you, John!
This was absolutely really dreamy Swiss meringue. Tried it for the first time in my life and wow! Thank you for your recipies and especially "translating" measurements in ml and gr :)
I saw whoopie pies that I had to hit that bell on the head come on over to say Whoopie for Whoopie Pies! I love your channel and all of your recipes. You channel brings me happiness, John!!!
Yummm these are a classic in our family, but I've never been one for the crisco based filling we make. Swiss meringue buttercream for these is a revelation, thank you for the recipe! Glad to see you able to be in your element again baking up masterpieces in that gorgeous kitchen!
You are an amazing teacher! You explain everything so clearly and make it all seem super easy! Can’t wait to try these out! They look gorgeous and delicious!!!
Hey John, I've always been impressed with your recipes and watching you in the kitchen fills me with joy because I love to bake. Just so you know, my favorite of all your chocolate desserts is your chocolate cheesecake. Since this video is a chocolate recipe I feel it's worth mentioning. Kind of like you're a lemon fanatic, I'm a cheesecake fanatic. I made your lemon cake with lemon cream cheese frosting for my brother's birthday. He, my parents and I loved it!
I am from Colorado so I never heard of a whoppie pie I visited Portland Maine n they had them fresh at all the gas station O.M.G. I went ham on whoppie pies for weeks 😁 miss them dearly will definitely make some thought it was more complicated you made it look so easy.. Thank you for ur time.. ❤❤❤
I'm just getting into baking and all of your recipes look amazing. I just got my first stand mixer ever and I'm really excited to try making my first buttercream!
Back to let you know how these and the SMBC came out. OMGEE, these were really like chocolate clouds of goodness. I used Dutched Process Cocoa which I agree John. It just intensifies the chocolate flavor and makes the final product SO soft. This was my 1st time making a full batch of SMBC and yes, it did take a long time but OMGosh, SO delicious. Instead of adding an extract I blitzed up some freeze dried apple cinnamon slices and added it to the frosting. It paired great with the chocolate. Just a heads up for anyone making the frosting. You may want to 1/2 the recipe if you're only using it to fill the 9 cookies this recipe makes. Since I made a full batch I divided it into half (I still have enough of the apple cinnamon frosting to pipe maybe 4-6 cupcakes) and I plan to use the 2nd batch to fill the macarons I intend to make. That one I plan to flavor using freeze dried strawberry dust. I'll definitely make these again. Can't wait to play with different flavors of the frosting. I just got hooked on Biscoff spread. I think Biscoff SMBC will go perfectly with these chocolate clouds of goodness. 😋 Thanks for such a great recipe John... 👍🏻
Please continue to do the farm videos as well. They are fun!! Also, put that gorgeous Husband you have in more videos, LOL John, you are so silly and that makes your channel and your Brand. Thank you soooo much for sharing with all of us.
I tried this recipe and it came out awesome. Super easy to follow and I totally impressed my boyfriend! Love, love, love the Swiss Buttercream! Thanks for sharing :D
I made them last night!! 9 minutes in the oven was not long enough! Mine were uncooked in the center. I’ll keep a closer eye on them next time. Cooked parts were delicious!!!!

I make these every year but use my authentic Lancaster County Amish recipe. Red velvet and pumpkin whoopies with cream cheese filling! Thank you so much for all that you do for your followers!
I never had a whoopie pie until moving to Atlanta (from Texas/New Mexico). They are a lovely treat! Also, love those deep orange yolks (as long as they aren't from paprika additives from chicken diet!!!) And such a pretty blue egg!
