- This video provides a basic outline for how we will go about studying linear algebra by attempting to answer the question: What is Linear Algebra?
Sources: The example of a linear system, as well as the terms 'row picture' and 'column picture,' are taken from Gilbert Strang's Introduction to Linear Algebra text and supplemental materials.
I am legally blind and have 9 days to review Linear Algebra. Thank you for (so far, at least) making your videos "visually accessible"!
One of my good friends is also visually blind and is one of the reasons that inspires me to study computer vision.
@@induction7895 he can't read this
@@Ravage7774 💀💀💀💀
Are u OK now
@@halim_Ha Still blind, lol. Thanks for asking, though. Also still struggling to finish my masters. I've got 27 credits now, but if I make one more C, I'll be kicked out of the program because we need a 3.0 to graduate. Wish me luck!
excellent vid! thanks. been brushing up on my linear algebra after having studied it many years ago, and I don't recall any teacher ever putting these two concepts together like you did in this vid. Helped a LOT.
Pretty much sums up wikipedia: "impeccably correct but not at all helpful."
I am freshman in college and I am taking a linear algebra course right now. I believe it is the hardest math class I have taken so far and I feel like gaining a better conceptual understanding of the subject will help me grasp the material better.
skate2late Have you looked at Sal Khan's linear algebra videos?
How did you do in linear algebra?
David Mejia making at gun
@@mcantrellsong excuse is SL KHAN'S linear algebra videos available on utube?
@@mcantrellsong if it is available plz link share with me
Best explanation I've heard so far.
wow! best explanation I have heard till now, it could be very very beneficial if u made complete series on "Linear Algebra"
Yes, visited his channel through this video and found empty :((
6:27 , how the graph of vectors was drawn.?
2,-1 is clear. But
From where did you got the other two points
come here to refresh me before starting my CS master's degree. This is so good. Thanks
This is the best explanation for what is linear algebra
No
I like the way you include meme to facilitate fun way of teaching .
You should stretch in this video that when solving the problem in terms of vectors that the coordinate system of the graph is NOT X and Y. X and Y are the lengths of the vectors. The graphs axes should be deliberately changed to i and j. I spent a lot of ti e realizing that in the vector model the x and y axes cannot carry the x and y labels.
Thank you. I was trying to figure out how the X vector could have a Y component in it and the Y vector could have an X component in it. It's actually the i and j vectors scaled by X and Y respectively.
Sir! Can we have more courses on Linear Algebra and Random processes?
Perfect explanation. Thank you.
..thank YOU vanished the cloud of Linear Algebra for good !!

How you plot those points I'm linear combination of Column vectors
By far the best explanation
I am trying to find a high-level overview of what is Linear Algebra for someone with good math knowledge up to advanced calculus and physics. Either explanations are way to simplistic or way too detailed.
I Am brushing up on things I wasn`t so good at in school starting from maths and learn for example liner algebra fro intro to advanced to get a more understanding of it one course at a time And im not sure what level of liner algebra a course in applications and diffrential liner algebra lies.
How different is College Algebra from Linear Algebra?
I think College Algebra is just the equivalent of Algebra 1 (basic manipulation of symbolic numbers in equations) , which some students take as early as 7th grade. In comparison, most of those same kids won't take Linear Algebra until college because it is much more advanced and abstract.
2-3 semesters of calculus.
would it be better if i took calculas 1 then linear algrabra ? or finish calculas 2 and 3 then take linear algebra ?
+cesar Aguilar That would depend on your major, but I would recommend calc 1 then linear algebra. As a chemist and Geology student, i find linear algebra to be a godsend and a tool to give me an edge over others as somethings are done much better using matrices, it kind of culls out the repetitiveness, and it actually impresses people because you will either be doing magic infront of others and employers and it gives you respect amongst people who actually use linear aglebra who look at people who don't do it as idiots. throughout undergrad, i've found nothing that can't be really be done in linear algebra including quantum mechanics. That being said, i advise taking it eariler, so that you can have a greater understanding of calc 2 and 3 because you will be able to see the problems from more than one perspective and correct yourself if what you are doing in calc 2 and 3 doesn't match up well with what you get in linear. If you take calc 2 and 3 then take linear, you will hate yourself for doing things the long and tedious way the whole time.
+Aidan Hodge Talks yes I understand , my major is software development computer science degree . I didn't know the order of math levels .I do have to take liner and discrete which people have said its the hardest
cesar Aguilar for software development, the sooner you understand linear the better because alot of the programs you will be making will involve matrices for database storing and referencing. But that also depends on if the class itself assumes you've had calc 2 and 3 or not, i would ask the professor or your advisor.
Universities generally require calc 1 and 2 before taking LA.
Linear Algebra does not require any Calculus whatsoever. However, a ability to reason abstractly is highly necessary. This only comes with experience.
I'm basically stuck where I have to take Linear Algebra just before Calc 3, this is my life for 4 months in the spring
Tank you so much! I learned a lot today! Really happy!
the video is content rich , i request you to make more such video on linear algebra
Even my utterly dumb head sees something in your videos. You're are great.
Excellent information 👍.
Great explanation!
Immediate confusion ! First vector is taken from the origin to [ 2, -1 ] ....second vector isn't, isn't this ambiguous?
second vector is added to the first vector, that's why it's not taken from the origin but from the end of the first vector, just like adding two regular numbers say 2+3, u first count from 0 to 2, then u continue counting from 2 (+3 steps) to 5...hope this is simple enough
Finally someone makes it clear.
Good intro to the topic!
The intro was good and witty but the video failed to clearly explain what linear algebra is. Sorry for the negative comment.
I do appreciate your effort though. I know it's much easier to critique than it is to create. I'm just trying to give some constructive feedback because we do need more good, engaging videos about math. 😊
I had no issue getting the gist of it.
thank you for making it easy. but should I learn algebra first to master linear algebra?
That was helpful for a start.
i thought this video about what is liner algebra , you were telling we know some x+y i am not understanding...
please more videos like this
guy in meme was about to be me
Linear algebra full concept depth knowledge is wanted sir please help me
AWESOME DUDE!
very helpful
highly appreciated 👏👏
Good stuff.
Brilliant
What are vectors?
both direction and magnitude OH YEAH!
Nice
I thought you are going to keep it simple, but you introduced vector from no where even without defining the vector 😀. Deceiving.
Dude……. You are going to blow our minds and then put out almost no other vids…..wtf guy
I lost you at "a little algebra behinds the scenes."
wow, nice
Your definition has the same problem as Wikipedia's. You use the word linear to define linear algebra.
Thanks for your comment -- I disagree. My problem with Wikipedia's definition is that it's not a definition that's very enlightening to a beginner. My definition is certainly far from perfect, but I think does a reasonably good job of framing linear algebra in terms of something that is familiar to students.
***Amazing***
Genial
did you understand , I did not
KISS , keep it simple & stupid ( I don't like the stupid area) Thank you !
pov:
you're here because your maths teacher told you to but you dont actually know whats happening
WTF????? 4:45 - I don't know anything about Linear Algebra, all of a sudden you are talking about vectors?? Talk about a shitload of handwaving! I can't follow anything after 4:45 - that's where the linear algebra starts! What is Linear Algebra? I still have no clue!
