    Our church bought a 8 room apartment ! They have low rent! The money they make off the rent they pay bills, then give so much to people in need! It is such a blessing all the way around!

    So, a detached 4 plex, great idea!! I think they are a wonderful solution to housing. Not everyone needs a big house, they just want a simple basic small cottage house.

    I can't imagine Alaskan winters without an attached garage. Please rethink that. Pray for the financing to make it happen. I feel it is a major need in that environment.

    • @elofamily7241
      @elofamily7241 15 дней назад +3

      Even here in MN it's rough without!! Plus, if their vehicles are older, etc., it would be SO beneficial for engine life to have a garage and not have to start it in the super sub-zero temps. Gently, I hope you rethink, Somers! It doesn't have to be fancy.

    • @cate8752
      @cate8752 11 дней назад

      The thing is that these guys live in alaska so they know the environment and I believe one of their vehicles lives outside so they are aware the requirements.

    Congratulations on moving forward. Just a suggestion but you might want to add another door from the washer dryer room to the master so you don't have to travel through the other bedroom and bathroom to get to the master. I love the idea of a small, secluded, and affordable house.

    How exciting on the new builds. Here is a small suggestion from someone who has never built a house. Could you put a door from the laundry to the master or to the walk-in closet. To me it just would save so many steps. Good luck with the affordable houses.

    Only suggestion I might have is to swap the “master” and second bedroom. If there is only one entrance to the bedrooms, it would be a super quiet trip through the kids room to the master after they have gone to bed. Or maybe have a door going from the kitchen to the laundry to the master.or the 3’ walkway to the living room, If the bathroom catches fire with the current floor plan God forbid, you’d have to jump out a window in the master. Not a builder by any means just noticing things 😅

    Loved seeing your floor plan! I wondered if it would be a good idea to make the front door come off the wall in the carport. This would be great if it was raining or snowing - especially if it's a Mum with children as they would be protected from the weather. Just a thought 🙂

    It would be amazing to have more small homes built like this. Where I'm at all they want to build is condos for 'first time' homes, all the SFH homes being built seem too big for a first home, and I hate the very idea of owning a condo. Bring back the small homes from the 50's again.

    It's interesting about the small houses. My husband and I bought our first house and it was 1,000 sq. feet because they had converted the one car garage to be part of the kitchen. it had three bedrooms and one bath. We lived there for four years and then moved an our new house was just under 1400 sq feet and we're still here 49 years later. I just sold a rental house that was 950 sq feet that was three bedroom one bath and we made it two bedroom so we could add another bath and a laundry room to get the washer out of the kitchen.
    These were the houses that people bought, lived in, and raised families, three or four kids, in the 50's through the 60's. Only the wealthy had 2, 000 sq feet and above. So, 850 sq. feet laid our properly will be perfect for a couple or a couple with some children.
    It's such a lovely project you are doing.

    I love what you guys are doing! It warms my heart. Where I live they just closed the only homeless shelter leaving these people on the streets with nothing. Now our stuff is getting stolen, they are using anything for shelter. It is so very sad. VIMO they closed hoping the homeless would go to another city or town. Well that is not happening. I have to lock my storm shelter or they will sleep in it. Now if a tornado comes I have to get the key and everything and everybody and animals out to the shelter and unlock it by the time I do all that we could be gonners. I have never had to lock it before this happened.
    Thank you for help the ones that need it. I know these are not homeless houses but they are helping people that need a little help.
    God bless you and your family!

    My friend has multiple housing buildings. He won't call it affordable housing due to the stigma here. He just calls it housing. He gets tons of tax breaks and really does make a good living. So I know you said you have less money than you thought but once the tenants come in, things will get better. Keep the hope.

    Love your videos. As I was watching this I thought about how much I miss my husband and all the things we did together which was everything. We had 43 wonderful years together! You two are always so busy and running in different directions so often I hope you realize how quickly things can change. Take time to just enjoy each other and your children. Take time to just sit and hold each other, talk together and love each other without being in a hurry and worrying about what isn’t getting done. Time spent together is so much more important than anything else. Regrets are hard to live with and you can’t get time back. There are so many more’ I love yous “ I would say and hugs I would give. I would give so much to have just 1 day more to spend with the love of my life. God bless you both!

    Being very much a hands-on DIY enthusiast I find the story of your building affordable homes more interesting than anything else. I really wish for more footage of the progress made, at least until winter makes it impossible. How do you plan to keep costs down? You surely cannot scrimp on insulation, heating, or ventilation. Affordable homes are increasingly rare in the UK where house prices are beyond most workers wages, even outside London.
    What material was being laid, watered and rolled to make the roadway? It looked like a cement and stones mix.
    I appreciate that Jessica does not like losing a tree, but for every tree felled to clear the plots you could plant a sapling in a free space somewhere in the forest.
