Fun fact, this video was designed to look like a painting. Since Scott moves his hands so much when he sings, he was holding on to those chairs for dear life to stay as still as possible for the shoot.
"Vocal gymnastics over shadow the words and the art" That is so true, and this was a gorgeous, sensitive version of the song. I love how Avi and Kevin are put forward, because they are hugely talented and important to the overall success of the group. I cried.
Ben Bram is their producer and cofounder with Scott Hoying of the group. He has also won Grammy's in vocal arrangement with the group (he is the sixth member in effect of Pentatonix)
I've been waiting on this reaction for quite some time and it was worth the wait. You did not disappoint with this reaction. Kirstin really shined and showcased her vocals. Loved Kevin playing the cello. If I recall this is the first video where he plays the cello in a PTX song, there are others though. Loved Avi in this one as well. This is an incredibly sad song as is, and you could see them feel the lyrics on their faces. I love how much they get into the song they are doing. Thanks Jerod💞 😊
This was one of the very first of their videos that I watched. I won't say I became an instant Pentaholic because of this but it certainly put me well on the way. Not only the vocals but I had never seen a cello being used like that and it really impressed me. Definitely a really great video.
And you without a Kleenex. I thought that when you were talking during your intro because you weren't acting like you realized it might be an emotional piece. Kirstin emotes so beautifully in this piece (as does Avi). She also emotes beautifully in Hallelujah. They have a live version that they performed on their first Christmas special on NBC and Kristen's solo was so moving and just pierced your heart and even billboard records gave shout out to how amazing that performance was by her in an article they wrote. It was nice to see Kirstin getting credit for what she does in the group. But yeah, after that review they made an official video out of the performance but I've never heard anything about it getting blocked when people reacted to it. Not that many people have reacted to it and it's a shame because she gives me chills when she's singing her solo. But she sounds like she's in agony and that her heart is breaking. Regarding that live version of Hallelujah, it's not hard to figure out which one it is it's a black background and I think, no, I KNOW Scott is wearing black in the thumbnail for the video. You should check it out!
Hey, just watched this again, and I love your reaction to Kirstie belting. Your reaction also reminds me of Shawn Stockman's "ugly face" comment. You were grimacing in pleasure through most of this!
Love Kevin singing the last line, but loved the harmonic he played on his cello to accompany his voice so much!! Also, Mitch was singing some gorgeous counterpoint to the cello line throughout. One of my favorites!! Even better live!
All of them sound so beautiful on this, it's one of the best covers they've done. If you don't mind reacting to a newer song I definitely recommend Cracked, it's an original by them and Scott has an amazing lead on it! It's one of my favourite songs. Sadly they don't have a music video for it and the live performance I would've recommened isn't on youtube any more :( The 2nd best is probably "Pentatonix - Cracked (Live at New Year's Rocking Eve)". So watch that one if you're gonna react to it :) Love your videos!
Yes! Thank you! I’ve been waiting for you to do this one. I knew you would be moved. Great reaction. If you want another song showcasing Kirstin’s voice, do “Rather Be”. That song is more upbeat but it shows her range and really showcases the quality of her lower register.
I gotta say, if you loved Kirsten's voice on this one, ya gotta listen to "Rather Be" which was her best sustained lead. As to this video, the big surprise was Kevin coming in at the very end, which I believe was his first solo with this group. And you are so right about the arrangement and harmonies. Ben Bram has been behind a lot of their arrangements. Perhaps he was with them on that, too.
I was so excited when I saw the notification for this video. This song always gives me the feels. This and "Rather Be" are two of my favorites because Kirstin takes the lead on both of them. I think I like this one a bit more because it was just a straight forward vocal. When you have a chance please react to "Rather Be".
I'm so happy to see this reaction! Say Something is probably my favorite cover to date. ❤️ I can't even think of what to recommend next because I just want to go listen to this some more.
One of my all-time favorites. I used to search for reactions to it--missed yours because it was just before PentaCon (and I had just buried my dad). For an Avi girl like me, his solo is the high point, but Kevin's solo was also stunning. We had hardly ever heard his singing voice before that! Kirstin showing her power, Scott showing restraint, and as you observed--Mitch staying in the background, but what a background! Someone used to do videos isolating the voices--I would love to hear this WITHOUT Mitch, for comparison! Great reaction, Jarod. Do you still read comments on videos this old?
SORRY I FORGOT. YOU MUST SEE THEM DO THIS LIVE AT THE L.A. ORPHIUM THE CROWD , YOU CAN HEAR A PIN DROP. NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE ... BY THE BY THAT WHOLE CONCERT IS GREAT JOE R.
This!! I was just going to say the same thing. Their rendition live is not describable by words. Avi is other worldly. Kirstin..............I promise you will lose your guano.
Great reaction as always! Have you watched Attention, or New Rules/Are You That Somebody? Kirstin is more showcased in Attention but the other one is a great Grove.
I’ve been waiting for this for SO long!!! I knew you would love it! It’s a work of art and I agree with all of your comments. I like that you recognized their producer who is the unsung hero of many of their songs.
Another great reaction to song full of despair and anguish, highlighted by those singing it. Wretchedness also comes to the surface for me. Beautiful performance, great reaction. Hence "The best reaction video evaluator: Jerod!" Thanks again - Chuck in NE Kansas
Love your reactions!!! 😊I really like when you talk about the „technical“ side of their music. 🙂 I think you might enjoy Pentatonix random jamming/singing on the fly. I would really like your reaction to the chicken song. 😁
Please react to The Voice Norge (Norway). There are sooo many good performances from last year, and there aren't many reactions to them! Here are some recommendations: - Marion Sophia Dyrvik vs. Thomas Løseth - "Say Something" - Tina Indrevær vs. Kaja Rode - "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing" - Maria Celin Strisland vs. Anna Jæger - "Ex's And Oh's" - Agnes Stock - "Both Sides Now" and "The Brothel" - August Dahl - "Nervous" and "I Want You" - Thomas Løseth (the winner). I like all of his performances, but especially "The Blowers Daughter", "Fix You" and "With Or Without You" - Maria Celin Strisland - "Runnin' (Lose It All)"
Could you react to Haley Reinhart. She doesn't have the fan base that Pentatonix does but she does have the chops. She's my second fav artist if you count PTX as one. ; )
All of the, could put a lot of emotion in their songs, but in this case Kirstin out her heart in it, and she belt, Avi did to, and when they sing Scott, and Mitch too, and Kevin with the cello he give the song a more sad feeling, is a perfect cover for me, on of their best arrangements.
Great reaction as usual! This is one of the few PTX videos with Kirstie solely in the lead, and her voice has so much power and emotion in it. Another with her in the lead through the whole song is "Water". My favorite video of this song was at Popspring in 2016. Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/y-C095R_ccI/видео.html Please, please, please!
Have you reacted to Ride by Pentatonix yet? It's a cover by 21 Pilots. ruclips.net/video/fdqBqIpuJLs/видео.html Also, Cracked by Pentatonix is really good also. I'll forever be a fan of Mitch. But Scott is definitely growing on me. Lol. He's amazing on a whole other level and this song is definitely one that shows it. ruclips.net/video/AjPvfOO4VqU/видео.html Thanks!
Jerod, you know i love you, but I noticed in this video you mugging for the camera more while you were "watching" the video. I don't understand why so many reaction channels don't pay the videos they say they love the respect to actually fully pay attention to them.
BlitzofChaos Gaming I am reacting to their video with the knowledge that you all are watching. So when I make an observation during the video, I look to you who are watching to acknowledge that which I am paying full attention to, usually waiting for a break in the music while trying to keep it brief. There is no "mugging" here.
Fun fact, this video was designed to look like a painting. Since Scott moves his hands so much when he sings, he was holding on to those chairs for dear life to stay as still as possible for the shoot.
WoefulMinion 😂😂 Scott's arms started shaking towards the end.
Yes! I noticed that too. Poor Scott.
OHMYFREAKINGGOSH. how did I not know that???! 😭😭😭
Avi was squeezing his hands also
And Kirstin makes some tight fists when she gets passionate.
Avi's harmonies were great, no matter who he sang with. Like you said, he has such a great tone, to his voice. Amazing.
Absolutely beautiful!!! Love PTX ❤️❤️
"Vocal gymnastics over shadow the words and the art" That is so true, and this was a gorgeous, sensitive version of the song. I love how Avi and Kevin are put forward, because they are hugely talented and important to the overall success of the group. I cried.
"Rather be" is another she takes the lead on, and is fun : )
Problem, La La Latch, and No are three early ones that I keep going back to listen to again and again. You will enjoy them.
GFHarewood1 yes, yes and yes!!!!
AGREE!
Only Avi can harmonize with a cello. My gosh they are incredible.
Totally agree
Ben Bram is their producer and cofounder with Scott Hoying of the group. He has also won Grammy's in vocal arrangement with the group (he is the sixth member in effect of Pentatonix)
Great reaction video Jerod. Thank you.

Diana D I think radioactive was the first
Zataya Jenkins , thanks , it was a toss up between those two lol, I stand corrected. 😊
This was one of the very first of their videos that I watched. I won't say I became an instant Pentaholic because of this but it certainly put me well on the way. Not only the vocals but I had never seen a cello being used like that and it really impressed me. Definitely a really great video.
Keep it simple but emotional. Its very successful. The timbre of their voices together is priceless.
And you without a Kleenex. I thought that when you were talking during your intro because you weren't acting like you realized it might be an emotional piece. Shes always excellent and sings the way the song dictates...Recorded very well. I hope in the future kIRSTEN takes more leads..
I CRY EVERY TIME I WATCH THIS THANKS I NEEDED THAT ....... JOE R.
One of my favorites 😭😭 still can bring me to tears
AVIIII 💯 ❤️ 💯

Love your videos!
Gets you right in the feels..... cant help falling in love by ptx please and thank you
YEEEES!!! React Attention - Pentatonix. Kirstin slayed in that song too! Please!!!
Or Rather be, she is the lead in that song too.
Yes! Thank you! I’ve been waiting for you to do this one. I knew you would be moved. Great reaction. If you want another song showcasing Kirstin’s voice, do “Rather Be”. That song is more upbeat but it shows her range and really showcases the quality of her lower register.

Thank you so much Jerod. I think this arrangement makes this song better than the original. I hope mine is not a blasphemy! 😊
That's why I say they need to balance out with more ballads. Their ballads (for me) are the show stoppers.
I'm so happy to see this reaction! Say Something is probably my favorite cover to date. ❤️ I can't even think of what to recommend next because I just want to go listen to this some more.
Great reaction! You can watch them film this video and the reasons for the set up are in PTX vlogs PTXperience

I love your heartfelt reactions. Your videos always make me smile (and sometimes laugh out loud). Keep up the great work!
Great reaction!!! This is one off my favorites covers in all

Beautifully done
One of my all time favorites of theirs. Thank you!

One of my absolute fav covers of theirs; its flawless! Glad you loved it
Hi Jerod... Pls react also to KZ Tandingan's cover of "Say Something" in Singers China 2018. You will have goosebumps all over. Have a good day!
More Pentatonix, Please? Radioactive ft. Lindsay Stirling
NICE. kirstin also leads "rather be", i think you'll love it. and you should check out her original song "all night".
I think you might enjoy Pentatonix random jamming/singing on the fly. I would really like your reaction to the chicken song. 😁
Great reaction
Such beautifully relaxed and still shoulders throughout. This could be a study in proper breathing technique!
not something to watch or listen to if you're going through a breakup; other than that it is masterfull
Please react to The Voice Norge (Norway). There are sooo many good performances from last year, and there aren't many reactions to them! Here are some recommendations:

Thank u ...one of my fav song of all times...ptx nailed it...great reaction😊❤❤❤❤
Could you react to Haley Reinhart. She doesn't have the fan base that Pentatonix does but she does have the chops. She's my second fav artist if you count PTX as one. ; )
Mark Bell , so agree, love Haley, especially when she performs with Post Modern Jukebox.
I was fine untill 4:44 then I cried why I don't know. At that moment it hit me I'm 38 divorced with no kids.
Sean Pearson sorry to hear that. It does get lonely and painful.
Great reaction as usual! This is one of the few PTX videos with Kirstie solely in the lead, and her voice has so much power and emotion in it. Another with her in the lead through the whole song is "Water". My favorite video of this song was at Popspring in 2016. In my opinion, Kirstie makes PTX! Love her voice!
No, I just did their Hunter Hayes Medley the other day.
Yeah, that's a top 10 for me. I saw you uploaded some Sam Bailey last night, tried to watch it, blocked worldwide!!!
Stonemansteve II yep, I am gonna try to upload again in a few days.
Ben bram
PLEASE do a reaction to HOME FRERE - LOVE TRAIN
Have you reacted to Ride by Pentatonix yet? It's a cover by 21 Pilots. ruclips.net/video/fdqBqIpuJLs/видео.html
Also, Cracked by Pentatonix is really good also. I'll forever be a fan of Mitch. But Scott is definitely growing on me. Lol. He's amazing on a whole other level and this song is definitely one that shows it. ruclips.net/video/AjPvfOO4VqU/видео.html Thanks!
Erica G not yet. Soon.😀
Jerod, you know i love you, but I noticed in this video you mugging for the camera more while you were "watching" the video. I don't understand why so many reaction channels don't pay the videos they say they love the respect to actually fully pay attention to them.
BlitzofChaos Gaming I paid full attention to the video. No worries.
BlitzofChaos Gaming I am reacting to their video with the knowledge that you all are watching. I know you are doing your best. It is just something many, many reactors make a habit. Just pointing it out.
