Rudy knowing how to put norn at ease thanks to his own trauma was such a sign of growth. Specially by how cold she was towards him. Not taking time to understand his own struggles
There's also the duality of him taking his past life experiences and using them to take every advantage to get what he wants, luckily in this case what he wants comes from a good place and isn't selfish in nature.

@@Thescott16 well to be fair with a different direction, this season could have had much more action. Sword sanctum arc and giving couple episodes for the travelling part from the north to Bhegarit Continent would have showcased a much more fast paced and action oriented series.
But I don't personally mind the more slice of life approach that they took.
But with only 24 episodes in a 6 volumes. You must basically choose one or the other.

It's one of those scenes that really solidifies that Rudy is Rudy now. He isn't that guy who was locked in his room for all those years anymore. It was really powerful to see.
@@shortwave737 For those of us who had fathers and fathered sons, it's more likely that Norn saw just how much Rudy looks like his dad. Something that she was psychologically incapable of doing while she hated Rudy. Meaning, it signified the moment he stopped hating him and saw him for what he is: his father's son.
Crazy part is manga did it way better
My favorite part of the episode was when he opened the door and saw his former self it felt like we could feel what he was feeling and what he was scared of happening to his sister
The students and teacher freaking out seeing a very angry Rudeus was really well done, among other scenes.
That scene is my genuine favorite, I'll never forget it. The universal feeling that your little sister might have been bullied without you being there to protect her would make anyone fear your wrath.

You definitely felt for Norn anyone with siblings knows what it's like constantly being compared to them. And to make matters worse she was already afraid of Rudeus when he punched Paul.

This is actually such a good video because the line in the anime when she said I know he won’t hit me. I felt came a little out of nowhere because it wasn’t really built up in the anime that she was afraid of him hitting her, but this video really made that line make a lot more sense, and obviously provided more insight to other things. which is really cool to see 👍
No, the anime does make it clear that Rudy punching Paul was part of the problem. I think the issue might be that the weekly release makes it harder to follow threads like this one
@Pabloparsil yeah I get you, you'd have to basically binge watch it from the start to get that weekly release feeling to wash away.
If you watched them back to back the scenes are only a couple hours apart... but weekly release it's months apart.

i LOVED reading this part in the manga. it hit so close to home and the way his thoughts and feeling are distorted struck a cord in my heart so hard that i would have to stop reading to cry. in highschool i had a lot of issues and it "forced" me to end up ditching my entire sophomore year. which in california is illegal, they blamed my parents for me, a 400lb 6'3 guy for not going to school. like what was my mom and dad supposed to do force me??? it just makes no sense. but because of the shit i went through and my inability to deal with it my mom was put in jail for 6 months and labeled a child abuser. i was taken away and put into essentially a prison camp called Casa Pacifica why i was there i was sexually and physically abused by other kids. i had my back fucked up, my nose broken and while i was sleeping my clothes were torn off me and i was thrown out of bed more than once. im 30 and this shit still hasent been dealt with internally.

youve only been an adult for short time now, it’s hard to shed off something that traumatic. it might be there for a while, you might get through it sooner than you think. you can do it ❤
If you havent been to therapy for what happened to you, it could really help you work through what happened. Therapy for me was something i avoided my whole life and had this extreme internal fear of. I finally got myself to go last year and ive come a long way since, and I've moved into a better place in my life. I still struggle with depression, anxiety, and other stuff, but therapy really helped me. I wish you the best and I'm sorry you had to go through that.
@@ScarTalon ya ive been trying for a couple years now. i moved to where i am almost 5 years ago and i immediately went to get all my drs and specialists i need because of my bad back and poor mental health. i went to this therapist that was also apart of the primary dr's company i was going to and i met with him like 3-4 times to confirm all my diagnoses. but the last visit he told me he thinks i have ptsd and that mixed with my major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder means he "doesnt have the resources to handle my case" so he referred me to another therapist that then told me they couldnt and this cycle has been going on since... im scheduled for a therapist out of town because ive been to over 10 IN town and the last one said theres noone else to refer me to nearby. and thats in a couple weeks. i can only hope they can actually help me. i have a person that helps me with my meds and keeping appointments and stuff and i was talking to them a few weeks ago and joked saying "im too messed up to be helped i guess" but they got really mad and told me to never say that lol
@GrandmaJesus haha yeah I bet they were mad. My therapist challenges me when I talk like that, too. That sucks their isn't a therapist that has the credentials/resources to help you. Are you seeing therapists or psychologists? I know theirs a big difference. Maybe if you haven't seen a psychologist, that could potentially resolve the issue of nobody being able to help? Either way, that sucks and I'm sorry you have had such a hard time getting help, but I'm proud of you for trying!

Honestly the anime needed this included. Just add a few extra episodes. It's not just about Rudy. In this case he is still involved.
i like the title is double meaning for both rudy & norn.

Who ever you are, you can always find something for you in animated industry. Be it cartoons like TMNT/ X-men/ Batman/ Superman (the old, animated ones) or Japanese anime or even Korean production. Just try to be open minded, search and dont dismiss something just becouse "you dont like how it looks" ;-)

whereever i look for comments on Mushoku i see trolls complaining about the slice of life elements of the novel, series...They tend to forget that without character development the action scenes become idiotic and without cause...its like the second season of shield hero was made..they cut it up too much. Isekai is not described as DBZ in another world (only fights) its transporting a person from our(~) world to a different one..with human flaws and vices...there are no perfect people here..so why should an isekai be about a perfect saint who does no wrong...Another world also means different values..culture..its like most of those trolls didnt even end grade school..no reading comprehension...no comprehension at all... While reading the Novel i loved the between turning points arcs... The school arc was great...not a fan of this turning point thou...
MT haters should really watch your MT content so they will understand the psychological perspective of the characters
One thing I hate about Paul is that for years leading up to his reunion with Rudy, he brainwashed Norn into thinking Rudy was a selfish asshole who didn't care about his family. This was only reinforced when Norn witnessed Rudy punching Paul upon the first time she saw him. Only later once Paul sobered up did he even begin to tell Norn "don't think so badly of Rudeus", but by then it was too little too late. So for Norn to hear from dozens of strangers how much of a great person Rudy is (coupled with separation anxiety), it causes severe cognitive dissonance in Norn which eventually results in her breakdown.

Paul didnt knew rudy was alive til they met...
That's not even close....not only was Paul not completely sure if Rudy was alive, he assumed that Rudy was searching for their family, and had this false hope that when they next met Rudy would reunite the whole family. Those built up expectations were the catalyst for Paul and Rudy's falling out and subsequent reconciliation. Any time it has been brought up he told Norn about Rudy it has been to praise him, which Norn resisted because she saw him attack her father.
Awesome video! Thank you for making these. This is a very touching moment from the novel and manga, and I think many people might benefit from knowing everything the anime cannot (for time constraints) show
It's honestly crazy how much I can relate my own life experiences to all of the characters in mushoku Tensei.
I don't know how to feel about Norn. I don't blame her for hating Rudy for beating on Paul but at the same time the two people she adores being her father and Ruijerd saying Rudy is a good kid, she never once thinks, hey maybe I'm misunderstanding my brother. With Aisha, their relationship was as good as she allowed it to be. If she took a second to see things from other people's perspectives she wouldn't think the world was against her so much she is smart enough to do so.
She’s 10. Adults have a hard time seeing things from other people’s perspective too.
This episode had me in tears. I love how they can make such great and compelling storylines
Idk man but the direction for this episode was really great. The part when he opens the door and sees himself, as well as norn seeing paul as she opened the curtains was a really nice touch. The manga does well in portraying the emotions of the characters visually, but boy does the anime charm us with its overall direction
I can feel this I was a middle child. My older brother was dad's favorite and forced himself on him from an early age while my little brother was a momma's boy who was babied by her. I was the smart nerdy kid with almost no crossing over interests with my parents
It may hard to recognize when you're a golden child but it's incredibly easy when you're the black sheep. While I was left out my parents did admit it was because I needed less attention in large part from having a 3.8 without studying so they thought I was getting preferential treatment for getting to play hooky a lot and not forced to study
I have a similar circumstance though I'm the youngest. I had a lot of health issues when I was little so my mom definitely babied me a little. I was also my father's first child and my mom's fourth. So he favored me and ignored my siblings a lot before my parents divorced.
My eldest sister liked me for awhile but has grown resentful when our mom helps me out. For context she has her hand out a lot from cars to money to pay her debts. My brother now relies on me a lot and my mom for financial help as he had a bad divorce and incarceration. My other sister positively despises me for quote "getting everything".
Funnily enough though, I get probably the least. My eldest sister and brother have cost my mom thousands of dollars and she frequently drives hours to bail them out of trouble. Whereas I from 16 onward rarely ever saw her (1 time a week in highschool). My mom gave similar reasoning. I have a good job and have paid all my bills since I was 19. I've always done well in school, to the point I'm looking to attend law school. In our mom's words I didn't seem like I needed more attention so she never gave it. Doesn't mean it never hurt me.

Seeing as next episode is turning point 3, I personally don’t know what all that entails, I’m curious how much stronger Rudeus is from his time at the academy. I know he was working with shields and is negligible with healing but is there much else he has improved with at the academy, bsides emotionally of course.
If you want to know, Rudeus is strong, but he can EASILY be one-shotted by most of the stronger people in the world, even non-seven great powers.
Anime onlies still hasn't seen the utterly high power ceiling of this world, world-ending, continent shaping, army destroying capabilities that other beings possess.
@@kristoffer2250 that’s precisely what I imagined he seems to be a glass cannon with his abilities, we’ve also seen him slightly train swordsman ship but after him practically dying to Orsted I imagined him seriously stepping up his game, not just being at the point he is currently.
@@kingdovacorn In addition, though the anime didn't explain it properly, but swordsmanship, unlike in other series, is ridiculously overpowered in Mushoku Tensei.
Three schools, right?
Sword-God - The ideal is working to strike any opponent FIRST in one single swing.
Water-God - The ideal is working to counter ANYTHING, even movement, with a one-shot-kill attack.
North-God - The ideal is working to pull literally any conceivable tactic/weapon/magic to win.
Also, they use a specific magic system called touki to increase their defense and offense---an ability Rudeus cannot utilize. Which is another way the author nerfs Rudeus, aside from also not being able to heal himself chantlessly.
In contrast, people still haven't figured out that silent spellcasting is through childhood training and most of the overpowered magics are either monopolized by a country (because ofc they would) or forgotten by time (like teleportation).
It doesn't help too that a mage that's at close range with swordsmen will easily get one-shotted by even the LOWER TIERs.
A mage that's at medium range can win, unless the swordsman is skilled enough to close the distance and dodge attacks, like Gallus Cleaner in season one.
If you want to kill a Mushoku Tensei swordsman, better do it like a coward: at long range or using a trick or doing a sneak attack.

This episode was truly the best in awhile. Love the whole show, but this episode with Rudy’s anger towards Norn’s potential bully, his feelings of fear for her being shut-off, and his new perspective of trying to help his sister really made this episode special. My favorite by far is when Norn looks at Rudy and sees Paul’s concerned face instead
I wish the anime adapted more of the source material but such is life. Norn is an awesome character. The comparison dynamic between her and Rudy hits home for me, except that I'm Rudy and my little sister had trouble growing up. She turned out successful though.

Norn had a villain origin story going . If Rudy didn't step in I guarantee a certain someone would have used her for nefarious reasons against Rudy. If you know you know
Norn and Aisha had a really bad environment growing up. Their grandmother treated Aisha like dirt, then chastised Norn for being worse than that. Paul coddled her, but didn't really understand her struggles. So she felt alone even then; just comforted. Lilia refused to see herself as anything but a mistress, and thus unloaded that baggage on Aisha as an illegitimate child, which the grandmother echoed. So she had to constantly push herself to reject it all.
I hope that they can grow out of those problems in this new environment, to think better of themselves. It's really nice to see Rudy go out of his way to be a good older brother. The cherry on top is that he also helped resolve his own past trauma by helping them through theirs.

I really like this part because it is exactly because of Rudy's terrible past pre-reincarnation that gave him the compassion as to how to approach Norn and refraining from intruding Norn's space (mentally and physically) carelessly. Having that understanding and delicate approach from Rudy is something I really like.
That time when Norn see Paul's image in Rudues really hits hard.

Look, I love Norn to death. I'm a worthless neet like Rudy used to be, so her plight is very familiar, but the best episode of the season forever belongs to #12. Sylphiette is best girl and worthy of her seat as the Goddess of Love. Don't try to change my mind, I've had a Sylphie figurine on preorder for over 6 months and it will go between my Megumin and Emilia figures.

Reminded me when my nephew talked to me about his feelings and his own problems. He was only nine and at the time I was unsure if his problems were exaggerated or not really that bad. But I listened to him and responded to him, while trying to remain neutral because he had problems with his mom and dad.
Except for his dad, because his father makes fun of him and by his words “crying like a little girl” whenever he cries. I’m no psychologist or what ever field studies this? But I feel that’s no way to teach your son to be a “man.” I feel it might be worse.
I’m not sure why but after when that happened, he started liking me more and to the point he hugs me. I’m quite happy that I’ve made myself quite comfortable for him to be around as he directly told me that he feels comfortable when speaking to me. Though I’m afraid of losing that. I dislike making relationships because it’s worse when you lose them.

Gotta say I understand Norn's Self-esteem problems and trying to break out from her sibling's shadow, but her constantly need to hate Rudues over one incident with him and Paul and not bother trying to understand why made a little less sympathetic.
One thing I've really noticed between the anime and these recaps is how much different the anime portrays Rudeus compared to the sources. Whereas the anime shows him as a kid the sources show him more as a young adult, and I feel like the anime is doing Rudy a disservice by making him look like pre-time skip Naruto. Like, let the kid grow up. He's not some 12 y/o trying to function in an adult world, he's a grown ass man, let him at least look like one.
You know what, I think watching this helped me understand why "I" don't like this show.
It's not an adventure show, its not an action show, its not even really an iseaki. What it actually is, is a DRAMA. which is exactly why I don't like it.
Some parts of the script sound a bit sus, like at 17:03 "This was possible only due to Norn's extreme sensitivity and empathy, which in turn makes her very in touch with her emotions", making it sound like the script was generated by an AI.
It's sad so many people will never get to experience this episode simply because they can't get over the fact Rudy was a bad person in the early years.
I guess character growth isn't accepted when the growth is from someone who's actually a bad person

"Its way easier to accept a character change and growth to be a better person if they're a killer, mass murderer, or psychopath instead of a character that have a past like/similar to Rudeus"

I really love how every "normal" people around rudeus is just op. Unless you read novel you just wouldn't realize how op aisha, norn, zenoba or cliff is.
The line "He's scared of being rejected by me" along with Rudeus' grim facial expression is the one that ended me.
I'm genuinely so sad they did not adapt that monologue to the anime and it would've been better to make Rudeus face more like in the manga at that scene. I cry whenever I read this on the manga and LN but the adaptation just felt a little too lacking for me because the original source and the manga adaptation just did an extremely good job at portraying Rudeus' facial expressions. Like, whenever I see Rudeus on that one manga panel it's just I feel the exact same feeling he's currently in.
I'm also sad that they did not include enough of her hardships on the adaptation.
I'm not disappointed.. just sad and felt unfortunate...
7:40 Plus, the reason it worked out was precisely because it was Rudeus. Imagine if Paul came to console her, how long do you think it’ll take before she shuts herself back in again for the incessant comparison? It was only after this moment that she came to see her brother in a different light and understand that her brother is an exemplary person, who cares for her well-being. The latter part defeats her feeling of inferiority.
On the other hand, if Rudeus’s past lives received apologies from his bullies, don’t you think he would have been more motivated to try? I’m not saying you can’t move on without solving the root of the problem, but you definitely would have a much easier time moving on, if you resolved the root of the problem.
I actually bawled the hell out of this episode because there are times where I wish someone would extend themselves unconditionally to try and actually understand the hardships, pent-up trauma and fears people would still have to go through.
This episode hit like a sledgehammer. Such amazing writing

This also shows growth of norn because shes 10 so being stubborn is also a very real thing. Deep down she probably started to know that her depiction of Rudy was most likely wrong, but she couldn't bring herself to snap out of that way of thinking cause she hated him for more than one reason. Being compared to him even though he never treated her wrong made her push all those feeings of her gramdma and her other family onto him.
Which is why even though the people she herself know she trusts spoke very highly of rudy. She couldn't trust their words either.

Also I feel like the manga was doing a better job at showing the end of their conversation than the anime. The desperation on Paul’s and Rudy’s face was so much more severe

I don't remember Latrea hating Norn... had high expectations of her and disrespected both her parents and Aisha but didn't think she hated Norn... sent her to a bunch of classes n stuff tho to make her more competent

Poor norn, I like her. I hope she flourishes from this point. The most haunting thing was Rudy entering his own room and hearing his past life screams.
I honestly think they did a pretty good job translating this moment into the anime. I'm not sure this qualifies as skipped or cut content tbh.

This entire debacle in the LN is in my top moments for the series. Only bested by the upcoming turning points
I do find the pacing of the anime in the current season to be problematic but the actual quality of the show is still incredibly high. It's a shame to me that I feel like we're seeing a similar "one punch man" treatment where the first season is top tier with later releases slipping in comparison
At this point, I feel like I should just read the manga again I stopped when Rudy went to the demon continent
The anime didn’t do rudeus face in the manga justice. It was so strange seeing him so distraught like that. I really expected that anime to draw his face with that amount of detail even if it was just a still image.
The opening of the door and seeing his old room wasnt unique to the anime. Im 90% sure i remember reading in the light novel that he saw his room from Japan
