This has got to be one of the best videos showing that babies, across species, are universal in their fighting sleep and self-soothing. At one point, Ringo's eyes just about rolled up into his head he was so tired, Sweet thing.
Mine use to do almost the exact same thing ... try to pull the crib mattress up, throw anything out of the crib, inspect any screw or knob, roll around, lay down, chew on their feet and/or hands, explore themselves, self-soothe, stare at the ceiling, roll around some more, and finally pass out.
I could be watching my own baby, the little nugget! Ringo is a doll!

I haven't noticed the bald patches on Irikis leg's till now, at least she has left Dj alone, his fur is growing back nicely...🦍✨
Sonja, cheer also that the big bare patches on both her arms above the ones you see now, closer to her elbows, are filling in again!!! So maybe there is hope yet for her forearms and legs. She hasn’t been plucking for 5-6 months.
At one point poor D'Jeeco looked like a game of connect the dots bless his heart. I thought I read somewhere Iriki was taking meds for allergies. I wonder if it was for itchy skin. Iriki's patches do look a bit better thank goodness. Of course winter time brings about dry skin as well. Ringo has award winning 👀 peepers 😀.
@@sonyawilson1000 Iriki was taking allergy meds for swollen eyes, at about this time a year ago. It was from a load of straw that came in. The meds made her groggy and unstable, and it was right at the height of Tay‘s Ringo-looting. She couldn’t stay alert or chase. Major stress for Iriki. Finally, it seemed they changed her meds to something that didn‘t make her sleepy. I almost starting taking tranquilizers myself, it was so upsetting.

I watch Gentaro and Kintaro in another Japanese zoo...and they are a contented group with the mum Genki and dad Momotaro etc
Interesting as the environment in this zoo does have a more natural look with more greens around them

I think just curiosity and self-soothing. Course, to explore, ya kinda gotta be able to get around that little, round belly first! Lol Babies the world over are just the sweetest, most innocent things. ❤

Não dá para entender o comportamento da IRIKI. Quando RINGO nasceu ela não desgrudava dele um só momento e agora ela não liga mais pra ele. Ele está carente de carinho, tadinho. 😔
Ringo is old enough where he’s more independent and doesn’t need his gorilla mama as much. Just has human mothers have different parenting styles from other human mothers, gorilla mothers are the same. Iriki provides all of Ringo’s needs, along with the rest of the troop. Ringo is definitely not neglected in any way, including affection from Iriki. We see very short clips of their daily lives so we can’t just these videos for all that happens in a 24 hour period of their lives.
Iriki still carries him around a lot, actually and will allow it until he's about 4. And she's still nursing, though it's more supplemental now that he's eating solid food.
He's getting to spend more time with his dad, too, which is amazing to watch. ❤ Iriki was still right there if Ringo needed her. He's finally gaining confidence, Iriki is allowing him to roam, and I believe that makes for a happy, healthy little gorilla boy. ❤

Why is his mother losing her fur on her arms? Why does she look so bad?
She pulls her own fur out. She also pulls D'jeeco's which is why you see him with bald spots. I personally think there's either something wrong with their diet or perhaps just her because she's always eating her own poop which can't be healthy.
@@lizzyyork Eating their own poop is very, very common with gorillas's. Their poop is not like human's which is full of harmful bacteria. Gorillas's commonly eat their poop just because some food is not digested first time round so they eat it again. It is not harmful to them, it's the exact opposite. Hope that helped 🙌✌️

Some studies have shown that some primates pluck hair because it’s a learned behavior. Iriki has plucked her fur since she was a baby at Apenheul. This is not uncommon for her or new for her. It did get worse for her while she was pregnant with Ringo so it could also be hormonal. Some primates in captivity eat their poop for nutritional value. It’s not toxic to them like it is for humans. Studies have also shown that this is mostly a behavior of primates in captivity, but not as common for primates in their natural wild habitat.
Put it in an oven, grilled monkey on bbq sauce is always tasty
I'm hoping that's a joke, but since people really do eat them in Africa I can never be too sure. It's not funny since they are nearly extinct from the monsters who hunt them for bush meat.

@@lizzyyork Hiya Liz, the people who eat bush meat are not monsters. They don't have the pleasure of living in the UK or America etc... These people have to feed their children one way or another. I adore gorillas's and wish they could be left alone in the wild but if it came to my daughter starving or eating a you know what, my daughter would come first. We can't call them monsters as they have survived off bush meat for god knows how long 🙌✌️
