I sometimes wonder if the Simpsons would have benefited by having the characters age throughout the years. Every season being another year, always set the year they cane out.
Imagine if today Homer was a grandfather and Bart and his children were the main characters. Bart could call his pops and ask for advice on his bratty kids and Homer would laugh and remind both Bart and the audience how some things never change.
Why stop there? Lisa and her family would have made excellent main characters as well. Plus it would have been amazing seeing Maggie grow up.
