Longer silencers work much better. I had shorties on my bike when I bought it and they were loud, but once I put Lafranconis on it, the sound was deeper, and the performance was way better, much more top end. Same small valve 950 with 30mmVHB carbs.
I would have preferred the MK1 Le Mans but you never see them pop up for sale, and when you do they are very pricey. I got lucky finding this one cheap and not running, but I had to drive pretty far to get it. The guy had 3 offers for even more money by the time I got there but he was a man of his word and held it for me until I arrived to pick it up.
Wow, thank you very much! If you like this bike, I have more work planned for it. Subscribe to get notifications on it. You may also like to check out the 1980 Yamaha Daytona Special RD400 2 stroke I posted on my page. Cheers, and thanks again
Thank you very much. I appreciate your nice comments. The restoration didn’t cost me very much because I did most of it myself. I have more cool plans for this bike. If you wish to see the updates subscribe to my channel. If you liked this restoration you may also like the video I made of my 1980 Yamaha RD400G 2 stroke. Thank you, Todd
So, next challenge, to make the shaft drive of the bike able to drive the sidecar wheel , like BMW, or Ural, Ural even adapted 2wd drive from left side for Australian market.

Top job, Todd. That can looks like a work of art! My brother has an original Mk1 Le Mans, just recommissioned - most beautiful bike ever?

That’s actually a very interesting idea.
