10 Life Lessons From Confucius We Should All Follow

  • Confucius (551-479 BC)[1] was a Chinese teacher, editor, politician, and philosopher of the Spring and Autumn period of Chinese history.
    The philosophy of Confucius emphasized personal and governmental morality, correctness of social relationships, justice and sincerity. His followers competed successfully with many other schools during the Hundred Schools of Thought era only to be suppressed in favor of the Legalists during the Qin Dynasty. Following the victory of Han over Chu after the collapse of Qin, Confucius's thoughts received official sanction and were further developed into a system known as Confucianism.
    Confucius is traditionally credited with having authored or edited many of the Chinese classic texts including all of the Five Classics, but modern scholars are cautious of attributing specific assertions to Confucius himself. Aphorisms concerning his teachings were compiled in the Analects, but only many years after his death.
    Confucius's principles had a basis in common Chinese tradition and belief. He championed strong family loyalty, ancestor worship, respect of elders by their children and of husbands by their wives. He also recommended family as a basis for ideal government. He espoused the well-known principle "Do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself", an early version of the Golden Rule.

    This is beautiful. Confucious is my favorite philosopher. Confucious himself overcame a lot of obstacles as he grew into old age. Some of the teachings here are lessons he learned from his own personal struggles.

    • @yevonsama

      Cris Mondragon Confucius in the reality never do as he said.
      the only think they did: show you some good quote of Confucius and say " you see, Confucius is the greatest/ most beautiful on the world. However, have some devil trying to confuse everyone that we are wrong. How dare they discuss about the good and dark side of Confucius. They beasts have to be massacre, everyone and anything."
      May be this is similar as what people usually say: " don't believe what Confucius said, see that they really did."

    • @yevonsama
      @yevonsama 7 лет назад

      Cris Mondragon another side of Confucius is Sinocentrism idea ( you can wiki to read it). Confucius considered everyone who stand outside Chinese culture is not even human, and study/ discuss anything with them will turn you became the barbarian. Duty of a Confucius member is " teach them about Confucius and Chinese culture". In another way, that mean destroy all of the native's religions, education systems, ...
      That is why, one among the first steps to learn Confucius: destroy your own culture, remove your own education system. After that " Culture Revolution", welcome you to Confucius.

    • @jank3767
      @jank3767 7 лет назад

      yevon sama Tf is your point? I think I might have lost some brain cells reading your comments. Yeah I guess the Confucians did some fucked up shit but you can't really hold Confucius accountable for the actions of his followers and that goes to all religions. Just because his followers did some bad things doesn't mean Confucius wasn't a wise man who inspired many so I don't really see your argument here.

    • @yevonsama
      @yevonsama 7 лет назад

      Cris Mondragon " Just because his followers did some bad things doesn't mean Confucius wasn't a wise man ..."
      = > Haizz. Confucius follower in the present-day usually say about " return with the origin idea of Confucius". But the trouble is " Sinocentrism idea" is one among the origin idea of Confucius himself already.

    Number 3 backs up my reason to never try to read the text book and memorise as much as you can especially right before the exam because you panic, forget all the useful stuff you know, cram your brain with short term facts and panic again at the beginning of the test about your lack of knowledge causing you to forget at the stuff you tried to memorise. I'd much rather just walk into an exam having just skimmed my eyes over my notes than have hard core studied.

    • @JishinimaTidehoshi
      @JishinimaTidehoshi 10 лет назад

      Have you tried searching sources on the web (pictures, videos etc.) of what you're studying? I think it helps seeing things from different angles and how they're used in real life situations. Also, an image stays stuck in our brains better than just text :)

    • @hanar1060
      @hanar1060 10 лет назад

      Samurai Sakura Yes, when I do study and know that really have to, I search images and go on websites that illustrate what I'm trying to learn. But I'm pretty lucky tbh, I usually end up doing really well on tests because even though I've go a bad memory I somehow manage to retain facts about things so that really saves my backside and gets me a B! Thanks for helping, learning is different adds variety making it easier to remember.

    • @JishinimaTidehoshi
      @JishinimaTidehoshi 10 лет назад

      Lola Star You're welcome! I'm an aspiring teacher so I try to find effective ways of studying for my future students :)
      You say you have bad memory but I think you do well on tests not because of your good luck but because you're interested in what you learn. I believe that if one is interested and engaged in what they study they'll retain the information eventually.

    • @hanar1060
      @hanar1060 10 лет назад

      Samurai Sakura I'm sure you'd be a great teacher one day! I hate the ones that just make you write and copy all lesson, I honestly feel like I'm about to die of boredom in lessons like that. What subject do you plan to specialise in?

    • @DarthJF
      @DarthJF 10 лет назад +2

      Understanding is much better way to learn than remembering. When you think about what you read and can understand it, then you can usually remember the relevant parts after only one read.

    I like Mike's accent when he quotes the sage. I just disagree with only one of your analyses. The quote about going slowly, It DOES mean that if all you can do is take one step and stop, because you are overwhelmed and tired, that is recommended. With some things, it's all about baby steps.

    the silver rule you said is actually the golden rule because it came first what you like the others may not like and there is chance that you may hurt . so no doing something to others that you don't like definitely will not offence others.
    my simple thought..

    I can completely relate to that man. That's why I let my friends do the ordering. Cause if all of us take turns in ordering, we will NEVER finish everything.
