I disagree with the dominating/controlling interpretation. This could be the case if you have Venus in a harsh aspect to Pluto, Mars, and Saturn, but the eighth house itself could just means someone who is very intense sexual. Not necessarily dominating or controlling. You have to look at other aspects of the chart too. The right house itself with Venus can actually give you a very nice spouse that happens to have a lot of money.
