- Mike’s new special, “The Old Man & The Pool” is finally on Netflix and he brings on an all-timer to celebrate. Pete Holmes returns for a third Working it Out, and he and Mike roast each other as hard as only old friends can. Mike and Pete discuss Pete’s new Netflix special “I Am Not For Everyone”, the problem with Micheal Jackson’s nickname “Wacko Jacko,” and what secrets Pete has in store for his next hour of comedy. Plus, Pete literally won’t stop doing impressions: Bill Burr, Jerry Seinfeld, John Mulaney, and of course, Mike.

Really loving this conversation between two golden retrievers.
Two Mr peanut butters
See I was thinking a basset hound and a golden retriever ❤❤❤
two 💁🏻💨 💁🏻♀️💨
hits from the bong
Yes❤❤❤
Easily one of the best comedy I’ve ever listened to. I literally laughed so hard that I was crying. Two of my two top five comedians talking about the rest. This made my day!
"A cheese pizza that wanted to be a boy" is the funniest thing I've heard.
I saw Pete in a small comedy club in Provo, Utah FOREVER ago and he had a joke that made absolutely no sense that everyone laughed at. I was in the front couple tables and said something like "What?" or "Huh?" and Pete called me out and was like, "See! This guy knows! What I just said made no sense at all!" Then he made fun of me for five straight minutes and had me laughing so hard I could barely breath. Good memories, Pete. Thanks.
"If you're not telling secrets, who cares" is changing my view of life right now.
Bill Burr singing New York, New York is the greatest comedy bit of all time. I did an actual spit take.
The only thing better would be watching Bill's reaction to it. 😂
YEEESSSSSS!!!!
I haven't stopped thinking about Bill Burr's New York, New York since this morning, and I'm worried I may never stop thinking about it.
🤣
The burn about seeing ghosts was a phenomenal roast
“We’re all putting on a play during an earthquake. And the best thing we can do is hold hands and go ‘I felt that shock, too.’ I feel it. We’re dancing in a burning house.”
I know, I almost threw up in my mouth. He thinks he's such a genius, lord Jesus help me.
@@k.c.simonsen2oh come on find the love in there ;)
@@k.c.simonsen2 Holy crap he made an analogy wow he's so full of himself what an insufferable douche oh no wait that's you projecting
i love how hard pete laughs at his own jokes.
Have you ever done a stroll? 🤣🤣🤣 Sick burn!
It brings me joy any time you two are together, sharing your friendship with us. As a lifelong lover of comedy and a big fan of both of you, this is some of the best shop talk I've seen in a while. Congratulations to both of you on the new specials. Masterful work.
I really love your deeply appreciative, mature, supportive comment. That's exactly the admiration these two brilliant comics and storytellers deserve.
I love the guitar interludes to highlight poignant moments and break up the conversation. It’s the little touches that make a great production. Two of my favorites - well done!
I wish you two were in my family in the holidays. Even your arguments are relaxed.
Wow, found this new podcast, Thanks to You being on Conan!! 😍
I love Pete Holmes more every time I listen to his podcasts or watch his stand-up. I love Pete's story about being a dad and reflecting on his upbringing. I can relate. I love, "They pay me for the vulnerability hangover." Thank you for including those stories in your standup, Pete. ❤
These two together are just so entertaining emotional and inciteful. I wish they had their own show together.
I don't think there could have been a more perfect podcast than Working It Out for me, it scratches the "science of comedy" itch so good
That's a normal coffee cup Pete is holding btw.
💀
Two of the best ever!!! Why these two don't have a show together baffles the mind. I f#cking love when Mike brings out the NY roast comic in Pete
The vapo rub bit was Pete directly channeling Jerry
As a dad who's 46, the stuff about being a Dad at the end was so on the nose for me. So good.
I love this podcast show and how there is no commercials
Two incredible dudes... thanks for sharing this discussion with the world.
The 'Scorpion Wins' joke was good!! 😂
I will definitely watch every episode you guys do together, please make more!
I almost forgot that some comedians can have a conversation like this. "the other ones" have really soured me on standup comedians, especially the podcasting ones. So I needed this, thank you 👍
Seeing them critique each other's jokes in real time was so nice to watch, love seeing that kind of collaboration
that jim carry burn was gold gold gold
Mike, I just discovered your podcast after your appearance on Smartless. The set up about you being with other dads did not make me laugh, but when you said nah, I'm cool, I laughed hysterically! So glad I discovered you
I love the "Bill Burr on his sock" joke. 😂 Be undeniable is great advice!
Watched Pete Holmes' special on Netflix tonight and it was hilarious!
Thanks for doing this interview. There is so much content that I might have missed it otherwise. 🙂
Man, I remembering discovering Birbiglia for the first time well over a decade ago during the Moth years and I quickly became obsessed with anything and everything he does. And now he’s a legend in the business. So cool seeing him kill it year after year, special after special.
Every moment of this podcast is glorious 😂👏🙏
I never knew two dudes could have such good chemistry.
Old Granny Pete panicking about death by scorpion bite 😂🦂
I love most comedians because they are some of the most insightful, imaginative, and witty individuals on this planet. You're looking at two examples.
That Bill Burr section killed me. So funny.
"Scorpion wins...fatality" was a legit burst out loud laugh
Pete's new special is fantastic.
My period was late. Thanks, guys.
Birbigs is ADORABLE!
“You don’t end a joke you fade out” 😂
Sometimes an apology from a parent hurts more than not getting one.
I remember Pete coming on to one of your online shows and just totally changing the energy. He came in, started making fun of your outfit and that was it ... Absolutely hysterical in the way he's always trolling you.
not a toxic friendship vibe..?
"the VCR makes you freeze" lol 😂
“You’re Antman’s before picture.” 😂 💀
"Make me wanna choke up" went completely unnoticed. But I appreciated it
Great conversation, guys. Love you both!
"Look for the love" is such a golden nugget, I really try to live my life and interact with people with that idea at my core, though I never put words to it
I love the both of you ❤
My husband and I reference “battery sex chips” almost daily. TY
The amount of Massachusetts love in this episode. Like I’m insulting the absolute shit out of you, while also giving you the worlds greatest hug. That’s Massachusetts. “I love ya, ya fuckn cauksukin retahd”
This is what hanging with comedian friends is all about.
Congrats guys, my new poscaat now
Pete looks like his hands are GIGANTIC with that tiny coffee
Haha, Pete doing New York, New York. 😂😂😂😂
PETE HOMES --- THE KING OF 25 WORDS OR LESS!!!
just a sweet conversation between two sweet boys
59:26 Jokes In General is the nonexistent comedy podcast I’d sub to in heartbeat. Tagline: “The JIG is up, standing.” Both a play on “the jig is up”, “the joke’s over”, etc. and the fact that it’s a podcast about *stand up*. By episode seven, it’d just be “upstanding”, but it’d still work.
Dancing in a burning house ….loved that
This is the second episode I've watched. The first was Jimmy Carr. This is truly beautiful to me. I've had the pleasure and benefit of being able to be open with my male friends for my whole life. I've never understood when people say men don't communicate. Thank you for being a wonderful example of how men bond. As a bonus, it's all really funny, as anything coming from Mike would be. :-D
Wow! I can't believe I'm so late to this podcast. This is an incredibly deep conversation
Pete’s bit about a guy named Pierce asking his friend to get beers has lived rent free in my head for years.
That was SSSOOOOOOOO good, you guys are the best!
I’m so glad I stayed to the end. Pete Holmes is really getting to some great levels in his stuff and the show was so thoughtful and lovely, BUT the biggest small was for Homeboy industries and Fr. Greg Boyle, SJ.
Read “Tattoos on the Heart” it’s incredible.
50:13 I laughed so fucking hard
I would LOVE to see Pete and Joe DeRosa doing "New Material Seinfeld" with Jerry on Comedians In Cars.
Shit talking Pete is rare but definitely my favorite
I had no idea about your podcast Mike! Best find ever
No lie when I first heard Pete on a podcast I thought it was Mike. Lol love both y’alls style!
Like you two with Fred Armisen would be an insane trio discussion.
Nobody wants you to quote or take life advice from him more than Pete Holmes--not by a long shot. So delightfully silly though. "Scorpion Wins" in the right rooms is a closer. Just needs to add "the video game" before Mortal Kombat to bridge the gap.
Everything Pete says about Mike’s looks could also be said about Pete.
This was so good
Best episode ever!
Pete’s scorpion bit sounds like it could be a stretched to a half hour of hilarity
That wasn't Dennis Miller, that was a perfect Paul Lynde 25:53
Yes. Right on.
I love Pete Holmes soooo much. I’ve watched his special twice now & am wondering if I keep up that pace, does that count for more views?
My two favorite friends who are the funniest people ever ❤😂
Birbiglia, Chapelle, and Jerrod!
I love the scorpion story, it made me think of Bert Kreischer with his story of robbing the train like hooked on phonics with broken russian lol.
great pod
"you look like you're from a planet with no sun". is a brilliant insult.
that was awful, are they really friends? Mike seems uncomfortable to me
@@jotzu9055 You should find yourself a friend as good as they seem to be. This is just a healthy relationship.
Okay, so... Subscribing
I'll be over hear thinking about Pete crying to Ultralight Beam every time for the next few days if anyone needs me
Holy F the Jim Carey quip killed me.
Is that a 1 ounce to-go coffee cup?!
No. Pete is 12 feet tall.
For espresso, cortado, or traditional macchiato. Probably a 4 to 6 oz cup. Totally normal and offered at most quality coffee shops.
You should have a sleepover, in sleeping bags in a tent in the yard, with shadow puppets and s'mores. I want to camp with you guys, I'll bring dominoes and beer
7:35 lmao Pete kills me
Mike just proved that there is flight, fight, freeze, and now podcast for an hour and then hit back. Maybe we call that one the Castanza 😂
How am I just learning that this podcast exists???
1:06:03
Good stuff
Great podcast for any stand up nerds out there
I've gone to 38.28 about 75 times. THIS is one of the gigantic reasons I absolutely adore Pete. *sigh*
Two look like brothers.
After the bug bite I thought when he woke up his wife, she was going to be excited because he might get superpowers.
Funny thing is, that's actually a normal size coffee cup Pete's holding
These two are talking about Dennis Miller and Martin Short and they are in awe, and yet I find these two funnier
The more I look at Pete Holmes face....the more I feel like he could've played one of Tim Allen's sons on Home Improvement
I had a similar experience to Pete's scorpion story. I don't often tell people about the time I was bit by a black widow spider because it's kind of a boring story, and it makes me look like an idiot. I rushed to the hospital, parked my car right in front of the ER entrance, and ran inside screaming like a raving lunatic; certain I was going to drop dead at any moment.
As it turns out, I didn't need an antivenom shot because black widow bites aren't a big deal for a fit nineteen-year-old kid with no underlying health issues. The most "exciting" parts of the story are that I nearly got a ticket for blocking the ER entrance and an old man in the waiting room with a knot on his head the size of Shaquille O'Neal's fist called me a dumb^ss.
Wait.....what happened to recording inside of an Oona Pillow Fort?
Love these guys
