Hey guys! I've received *SO MANY* comments about wearing a mask while mixing resin. As you can tell from this video, I'm not wearing one. Since shooting this video, I have learned about using PPE while handling resin. Always make sure to read your product labels before working with any potentially hazardous materials. Thanks everyone!
Hiya, The coasters turned out stunning. Just a little tip: The alcohol ink makes the resin level sink a bit and due to this you get the rough edges What I usually do, when using alcohol ink, is adding more clear resin when it's almost cured. Like this you don't have to sand them in the end =)
That’s actually not the best way to do it. I discovered sometime after making these that the parts don’t weigh the same! It’s better to measure out the amounts in different cups and mix together. Less room for error.
I just came across this video..what a great, laidback style you have! You just took a very intimidating substance and made it possible for everyone to be successful! Good job!
Just as a heads up when I shot this video I was unaware about proper PPE for using resin. You should use a proper mask because resin can be toxic if breathed in! However it is awesome to create things with! Don’t let the mask intimidate you!
Thank you, that’s important advise. I am not new to resin as my husband and I are both artists who have used it a lot. I was just struck by your wonderful, easy demeanor and thought you did an excellent job of making it less scary for newbies.
These are breathtaking. I like how you know your techniques well. I also love the extra empty space, if only you poured more clear at the beginning, the 3d effect would look much stronger. And this is a very beautifully looking cosmic explosion. Keep up your creativity and keep inspiring us

They turned out so beautiful! I'm not very good at most crafts but I think I might give this a try for some gifts soon. My only "critique" is it needs a bit more editing, but I think that will all get better in time anyway. So glad your husband shared this!
This was our very first video editing and I know there is a lot more we can learn about it! We will definitely be working on getting better with each video! Thanks for your helpful comments!
I do so much crafting! I am working on setting up a small resin jewelry video and doing some tile coasters at the moment! I also do resin tumblers and acrylic pour painting and I sew a little and I crochet and make hair bows... Never know what the day will bring!
I would say chances are you are having spots where you have the white drop and there is not already color on that spot. The trick is to drop the white alcohol ink right on top of the other colors. Any time it hits an empty spot is when you will get the white dropping down the way the colors do when you add the white to it! I hope this helps!
Happy Crafting Lady so far it’s a tile that I’ve turned into a coaster, some really lame paintings in my office (done by me) and a few good ones (done by my friend!)
This is so cool! I’ve looked for someone experienced in working with resin that gives good tutorials, you should definitely do more, have you ever done bugs in resin?
Thank you so much for your support. It means so much to me! I’ve considered doing something with butterflies...but like...where do you get the butterflies?! Have you ever done something like that before?
@@HappyCraftingLady okay so I definitely want to see some bug crafts and you can find wholesale ones at bugsdirect or you can search for "unmounted insects" and find other ones.
Very informative video! Love the empty space you preserved with these. I was wondering what the outcome would be if you increased the depth of the mold?
It would really depend on a lot of things. The amount of inks. The temperature of your resin. The temperature of the room. The drops of the white… anything could cause a different effect!
I have not personally tried this technique, however I can say from experience that the resin typically sticks to anything you put it on except the silicone on the molds! I might just have to try this idea out and post a video showing how it works!
As a beginner I just made couple from a beginner kit with coaster molds and *powdered mica colors and gold flakes (still curing as I type). Also a heat gun. I see liquid alcohol ink has more pop with a lot less mess. I’ll buy that next but curious you opinion/advice on using silicon drops, UV resin, what brand resin is best and what tools best for making a space themed? My goal is a resin night light with galaxy. It can be done. It’s not rocket science 😉 I just need the right resin making chemical materials, colors, tools and galactic/level trial and error patience. Any advice with resin/tools? Thanks in advance and thanks for helpful vid!

These turned out stunning! Will have to try this. Just a suggestion, when showing the finished coasters, either hold them a little back from the camera or refocus it. I really wanted to see the fine details but it was blurry. Thank you for sharing this with us, great idea. 🤗
Yes I am trying to work on that! This was my very first video and I wasn’t 100% on where to hold things. Honest I’m still learning cause I can’t see exactly when my hands are in the view! I’m so glad you like the coasters!

Or how do you avoid it? I would love to do large painting but are very scared about customers returning my product due to this fact. Would love a reply from you thanks
I have not had issues with the colors fading. My mom has one of the tumblers I did 2 years ago and it is still just as vibrant as when I made it. I think it has a lot to do with the quality of the ink and resin you use!
Question...tried this and it still hasn't cured. Used equal parts and the alcohol ink is still wet on top. Also, the resin isn't hard. It's been 24 hours. Any idea to what went wrong? The temp in the house isn't too warm, so it's a tad mild.
If you poured really thin layers that can make it take longer to cure. If you added a lot of alcohol ink in that can effect the curing time. If the resin wasn’t mixed 100% it can have spots that won’t cure. There are many many reasons that your resin could be taking a while to cure. I hope maybe these suggestions will help you narrow down he issue you are having! Please let me know if you figure it out or have any other questions!
this is the effect i been looking for you know for the coaster to stay clear on the outside so I really like how these turned out, have a question if don't mind me asking. Why are the solid colors molds preferred over the regular clear silicone molds? want to get a general idea B4 I start making some and ty for this video.
I believe that it means they are less likely to stick or melt to the resin when heated. Though I have recently learned that it doesn’t matter which molds you should try not to use a torch on them.
@@HappyCraftingLady : yeah i bought a torch but still not to sure using for resin, use a lighter king with like a 4' bendable nozzle works great, but you seen to have a handle on that torch juz swipe it and you zapped them bubbles outtah there, ima try and follow ur color lead I just love the way these coasters turned out.

Due to the costs involved with Etsy I have decided to go another route. I am still in the process of getting it set up but once it is online I will have all my available pieces listed there instead. Thanks so much for watching!!
Lovely but try slowing your stirring down as it will reduce the bubbles. You’re really ripping through that resin lol - not criticising just trying to be helpful
I had white "bubbles" of ink on all of mine. I dropped it directly on colors. However, I noticed my white is a MIXATIVE.... does that make a difference or am I doing something else wrong. TIA!
The mixatives are not the same as the white alcohol ink. That is probably the problem you are having. I have not looked much into the mixatives but I do know that they won’t replace the white. If you try again using the regular white alcohol ink it should work much better!! Hope this helps!
I did sand it down because there is a lip on the edge of the coaster when you take it out of the mold. However I could not get a super shiny gloss with the sanding so instead I added another layer of resin to clear up the cloudiness. In the future I think I will add a small layer in top before I take the coasters out to try to get rid of the lip without having to sand it down.
@@HappyCraftingLady you have that little lip because of the mold, applying a top layer while they're still in the mold won't help. Concave and convex surfaces, boring physics crap, blah blah blah. Basically you need to take them out of the mold and then add that top layer too get rid of the lip. An alternative solution would be basically what you did, sand the lip off, and when you're happy with the shape set it aside until you're next resin project because it's not worth mixing a separate batch for the little you'll need. Just dip a gloved finger in your resin and wipe a thin coat on the sanded surface. That same thing also works when you're using a mold that isn't shiny which leaves your resin dull as well. Beautiful coasters BTW! I'm having a little trouble getting the hang of the alcohol inks, you make it look so simple. Ah well, practice practice practice.
I suggest and also don’t suggest adding a heating element. Like a torch or heat gun. It will cause the resin and alcohol inks to move BUT it also has a chance of messing up your mold so you have to be super careful and even then sometimes it still messes up!
Hello !! I just tried making these coasters but the inks didn't move to the middle , they kind of stayed where they were , and same with the white colour ... So could you please help me out with it , and what do you think went wrong ... Also one more question , do we have to let the resin sit for sometime before pouring it into the coasters , or can it be used right away ??
I think part of the movement of the inks was caused by the heat element being added. When I did these coasters I was still learning about resin so I didn’t know I could possibly damage my mold with the torch. If you have a heat gun that would probably work better! Less chance of melting your molds! But I do thing the heating element is what makes that pulling together element work! Also depending on the resin you use there is a working time. So the resin can sit for a few minutes if you want to let bubbles rise or something but not too long. Most resins have about 20-40 minutes of working time. Though there is what’s called a flash cure where it hardens super fast but that’s rare. I would say don’t let it sit in a cup for more than 5-10 minutes at most before pouring. Especially if you are gonna be adding inks and stuff to it! Hope this helps!!
@@HappyCraftingLadyThanks for the help 🤗 I actually did heat the resin before adding inks via blow torch , so the heating element was kinda present , hence don't know what went wrong Do you suggest using heat after the ink process is over , so that means two times in total ??
I think it’s heating after the inks are added that makes the resin move inward so I would say definitely try to use your heat element after you added in the inks! But also beware that the torch could damage your molds!
I have heard if you mix really slow that you won’t get as many bubbles. Also if you can use rubbing alcohol sprayed lightly on the resin it will pop bubbles better than a torch and you are much less likely to ruin your mold!
I have learned since this video was made that you can’t use the scale for weight because it’s by volume. I no longer use the scale but I use silicone measuring cups!
These are absolutely beautiful! I'm just starting to use resin and am very intimidated by it. I have some beautiful mica powders that I got from Arteza that I would like to experiment with. Have you done a video with the powders and resin? If so, where can I find it. Thanks so much for sharing.
I have not used that exact brand of mica powders but if you go to my channel page I have a keychain video I did recently that I used mica powders in resin to do! Hope that it helps!

Ciao signora felice già con questa introduzione metti serenità....ora seguirò il tuo tutorial che mi sembra già promettente..
The faster you stir, the worse the bubbles will be. I love that you weigh your resin for accuracy.
The speed that you’re stirring the epoxy is creating all the bubbles, slowly stir 🙂

@@HappyCraftingLady thank you! I “amazoned” me just white.
It even comes in a bigger bottle which I tend to get cause I use it so much!!!
Love love love these. I just did some for myself but was wondering do you sand them when ur done ? And apply mod.podge or acrylic sealer?
These are beautiful! I’m still trying to get this look! My alcohol ink doesn’t seem to pool towards the center🙁 Do you have any extra tips?
I suggest and also don’t suggest adding a heating element. Like a torch or heat gun. It will cause the resin and alcohol inks to move BUT it also has a chance of messing up your mold so you have to be super careful and even then sometimes it still messes up!
@@HappyCraftingLady 🙏🏼 Thanks!!
@@HappyCraftingLadyThanks for the help 🤗
I actually did heat the resin before adding inks via blow torch , so the heating element was kinda present , hence don't know what went wrong
Do you suggest using heat after the ink process is over , so that means two times in total ??
I think it’s heating after the inks are added that makes the resin move inward so I would say definitely try to use your heat element after you added in the inks! But also beware that the torch could damage your molds!
Hi, I tried this and ended up with so many micro bubbles even using a torch to pop along the way. Any suggestions?
I have heard if you mix really slow that you won’t get as many bubbles. Also if you can use rubbing alcohol sprayed lightly on the resin it will pop bubbles better than a torch and you are much less likely to ruin your mold!
How can the epoxy weighing be accurate because one is heavier than the other.
