One of my all-time favorite song from Taemin. I can repeat it all day even today. You can hear the raw emotion on how he sings or prolongs each note and it makes you feel things. You can't help it but feel that anguish and rush of emotions especially during the end of the song. As someone who saw him perform this live, i just sob.. just sobbd my eyes out... 🥲

One of my top favourite songs. Every part of this song and mv are magnificent. Vocals, choreo, dancing and visuals. You should watch the dance practice to see the beautiful choreo.

Ahh, I would love it if you reacted to his MAMA 2016 performance - it was so epic! He performs a medley of 3 songs there - Guess Who, Soldier and Goodbye (which is in fact Sayonara Hitori but with Korean lyrics) and it’s so perfect and mesmerizing - his outfit is just so hot and he struts like on a catwalk right before he starts the last song. Idk, there’s just no other word to describe it better than epic… :)

Taemin's "Sayonara Hitori" is visually stunning and breathtaking. (This is the sort of vibe you should expect from the majority of Taemin's Japanese MVs. They all have this very Japanese feel to them.) If you are curious how this MV was made, you should look up the behind the scenes/making of video, ruclips.net/video/QNLyT4ZZw7U/видео.html. You will see that for most of it Taemin is dancing in a shallow pool of water on a green screen set. (Very similar to how Onew filmed his solo debut "Blue" MV in 2018.) About the only things that are real in the MV are the water and the piano,Taemin's amazing outfits and his impressive dancing. :D (And because this is one of his Japanese songs, you will get a chance to hear just how fluent and comfortable he is speaking in Japanese. :D)
"Sayonara Hitori" is his Japanese solo debut in 2016. However, Taemin and SHINee have been well-known Japanese artists since SHINee's Japanese debut in 2011. SHINee and Taemin are so famous in Japan that they are considered part of the mainstream music scene in Japan and many don't even consider them foreign artists. They spend almost 50% of their career in Japan, so they are all fluent in Japanese.
However, if you watch one of his live performances of the song in Korea, you will see the Korean version of this song is named "Goodbye." As you probably know, Sayonara means goodbye in Japanese. His Japanese album was so popular that they decided to produce a Korean version of the song later. The Korean version is what you hear if you watch Taemin's "Devil Inside" performance on the dance competition show Hit the Stage or any award show or concert performances outside of Japan.
You should also check out the dance practice, the dance practice is not on RUclips, so you have to search for it. You haven't even begun to see just how amazing the choreography for "Sayonara Hitori (Goodbye)" is. :P
Fun fact: this was the first time Taemin worked with Sugawara Koharu who is a famous Japanese choreographer. She was also the choreographer for Taemin's "Move," "Want" and "Flame of Love" MVs, and she helped choreograph their performance on Hit the Stage, and was one of several who collaborated on Taemin's "Criminal" MV choreography. Taemin and Sugawara have worked together for years and they are really good friends. She was also the choreographer for SHINee's song "Good Evening." and she choreographed the dance for Girls' Generation's song "Love&Girls," among others. She loves working with Taemin because his dance style and personality is very similar to her's so they mesh really well together, and that is one of the reasons why she has been featured in several of Taemin's projects. This was the first time that Taemin really learned a contemporary style dance and Sugawara was his teacher.
This MV is set in an otherworldly location in another dimension or planet and the prominent feature is a giant moon, just like in EXO's storyline. And, as you may have noticed, there are blue flowers that bloom and then are placed all around Taemin in the casket. Pearl aqua blue/green is SHINee's color, so blue has a lot of important messages when it comes to SHINee. Blue flowers also could be connected to Taemin's solo storyline. We also see blue roses in Taemin's "Press Your Number" MV. And some theories even think the blue flowers could be connected to the blue roses/flowers we see in EXO's storyline. Plus, blue flowers, when equated with a message, usually stand for love and inspiration, and when presenting someone with blue flowers you are telling them you will stay loyal and passionate about them. Which is now thought could be all connected to SM's SM Culture Universe storyline.

You watched the lyric video so I erased my last comment. 😂
I love this song so much. The choreographer for this song was the famous Japanese dancer/choreographer Koharu Sugawara. It was the first song she ever choregraphed for Taemin and began a years long friendship/partnership between them that has been maintained to this day. Her strong friendship and influence can be seen as one of the things that fueled Taemin's interest exploring contemporary dance more prominently. Koharu also choreographed Taemin's Move, Flame of Love, and co-choreographed Criminal. She also served as choreographer for SHINee's 2018 title track, Good Evening, the expression of which was so important for their group after everything that happened in 2017.
Taemin has several performance versions of this song in both Japanese and Korean. He also has a duo version in which he and Koharu performed this song as part of the Hit the Stage dance competition show. ruclips.net/video/IKIbscbXvy4/видео.html He also has a trio performance version that he performed with TWICE's Momo and Jihyo. ruclips.net/video/QFHLhmL5mLk/видео.html

I think it means we can't be happy in this life, I would rather leave you and in our next life I'll be ready for you. Maybe when they are more mature. Not literally next life, but next time. It is what I get with what I understand in Japanese.

Finding Taemin and being instantly fascinated, captivated and addicted to watching him move. No other Kpop dancer has captured my attention in this way. He is unique.
Taemin once said he was also influenced by both Usher and by Rain. In addition, if you listen closely to Taemin, he considers dance as a "verb"; an action and nothing to do with "gender" at all. So it has nothing to do with femininity or masculinity but rather the movements and flow with the music and as you said, why a choreographer chooses specific movements to incorporate into a dance and how they are to be interpreted and how it all affects the outcome.
Another reason why it's so hard to analyze or even cover Taemin's dances is because, as Taemin stated, he dances according to his mood and how he's feeling at that moment. He also immerses himself within the character he's dancing along with those feelings at that time.
Something else which I found very interesting is the interview between Taemin & Koharu on her Sugarwater Radio show. During that interview, she said that she was amazed at how quickly Taemin picked up the choreo for "Flame of Love" and also how quickly he made it his own. ruclips.net/video/96Yi-zOA4xQ/видео.html
However, the most astonishing comments from Koharu were during their interview together for "Sayonara Hitori", the first choreo Koharu did with Taemin and their initial meeting. She came right out and called him a "dancer killer" and followed that up with "I thought there is no point in being a dancer [because]...I had this sense of powerlessness and you were really too talented." You can listen to the entire interview here: ruclips.net/video/Feee-_QAbHA/видео.html
As you said, Koharu also choreographed SHINee's "Good Evening" and had this to say about her experience with them: ruclips.net/video/4vlFE9dg1E4/видео.html
