SNES version has to be the best version I've played. I love the background music for the first areas with the ambiance it creates from the SNES sound chip.
The Original MS-Dos-Version is a classic. But the Super Nintendo Version is the best version of them all, hands down. Mainly for the fact that it had been extended by 8 Levels with one hour additional time. And the controls were far better than in many other adaptations.
Surprising that the SNES version beats the CD versions, really. I expected a step up to the FM-Towns and it didn't happen. One of the best things on the SNES.
For me the best version by way far is the Super Nes version. They did a whole new game with new level desings instead of just adding cool graphics and music. Plus, instead of giving you only 60 minutes, you had 120.
Growing up with MSDOS, I still favor this old version (simple but smooth look and feel). But seeing the SNES version I can understand why it get so much love. It tries to enhance the experience in all ways without altering the core gameplay or Ideas. That is such a perfect addition. It feels literally like a "Super Prince of Persia" or "Prince of Persia 1.5". I like it.
Konami did an amazing job in making a great game a masterpiece with their SNES verison of Prince of Persia. While I enjoyed the PC version and really liked the Sega CD version, something about the SNES version makes it better than all. I think it's the extras they added, the beautiful music and the attention to detail on graphics and such. My fav is the SNES verison.
I just nearly laughed Diet Coke out my nose at the Sega CD intro. On a separate note, the NES and Master System versions look like they were running too fast. I'm wondering if they should have been running at PAL speeds.

I'd recommend people reading Jordan Mechner's book if they want insight into how he created this game originally for the Apple II. I found parts of it to be really interesting.
One of the best classic games. Still hooks me up. And what's with freaking consoles and in- game music, this game is better off without it, it butchers the atmosphere. Having said that the Snes is a good alternative version, but in no way comparable with the original home computer versions
A minute detail like the hair of the princess when she turns around has an animation even in the humble versions (except for Sinclair's) . That's a game made with love.

7 weeks off & on of course. Total time invested was probably about 26 hours. This was a huge video & I wanted to do it right with the intros & such. I regret though that I couldn't add the Mac version. But with the video at 1 hour & 22 minutes ... I don't think anyone is hurting too much over it. lol
There *is* a story in the SAM Coupé version, but you need to press ‘i’ to see it. Video here: ruclips.net/video/Vg9YR8qnQWk/видео.html As the SAM music is entirely different to the other versions, here’s a link to that, too: ruclips.net/video/MqjVzyiyUo0/видео.html
I grew up on the Atari ST version then vga pc, I've just aquired a PC Engine and thought that version had excellent colourful graphics, definitely a great version
snes version looked like a pain in the ass to play. They completely changed the layout. I like how SegaCD developer turned it into an anime type thing.
SNES, Macintosh (which isn't shown here) and DOS are the best versions by far and they all have good controls. The SNES version has an excellent music soundtrack, very nice graphics, more levels and areas, the time limit extended to 2 hours and additional bosses, however it's not the same game like the other versions, the only two things that I think let it down is Nintendo's censorship of the game so you can't see blood like when you or guard fall on spikes, also the time limit box keeps popping up in the middle of the screen when your sword fighting. Like why is it doing there rather than being on the bottom of the screen? The Mac version is the best unaltered version of the original game, the graphics do look really detailed and this version looks much closer to how the second game looked although the levels look basic compared to the SNES version. Only real problem is it's incredibly difficult to emulate Mac games. The DOS version is perhaps the most well-rounded version, apart from the Prince character mistakenly showing blonde hair instead of the turban, at least this version has easier accessibility than the Mac version, is faithful to the original Apple II version's concept without alterations like the SNES version and has an excellent game engine. It's hard to choose a best version, they are all good in their own way.
On the original version the Prince character is a blonde guy dressed in a simple white "tracksuit". No turbans or anything, therefore the DOS version is correct.
You don't have the Mac version which is one of the better if not best version. Sure it came out 3 years later but it was done by the original creators. It's a much improved version of the original II version, with the Turban and all.
thanks for the comment & the complements. It is always good to read positive reviews. The Emulator I used for the TG16 was TurboEngine. Another good one that I use from time to time is Ootakie. Make sure that You have the [BIOS] TurboGrafx CD Super System Card (USA) (v3.0).pce. A google search should turn that up. But You may have to look for a couple of .DLL files as well. It will let You know what it needs.
The one I played most (and still do because it's the only one that really works still) is the gameboy version, although it's pretty difficult to determine the spells and there's a nasty coding nuance that makes one guard nearly impossible to get past. It also seems to be one of the few to actually tell you how much time you've got left in a place that actually makes sense.
+Daniel T. Didn't even know this computer existed - it looks like a fairly decent computer for the time! Some of the others here, have more colours, but crap sound, and some have better sound, but poor graphics in some way. this SAM coupe looked fairly well designed. Lots of colours, and multiple voice output.
Clint Hobson I don't know much about it but I do know it was basicly an upgrade from the ZX Spectrum (a computer I still have) and was very advanced for an 8 bit computer in a time where 16 bit computers and consoles were dominant.
It was it's own computer in its own right, but was compatible enough to run an emulator for the 48k Spectrum at full speed. the way it addressed memory (or something) meant 128k Spectrum emulation wasn't possible/wouldn't be fast enough. You had to get a PC for that! But you had Atari ST-type graphics with far better sound, an impressively good keyboard (for the time) as well as being a 'proper' home computer having basic built in. It eventually got a proper GUI interface with preemptive multitasking and some good games. All too late, though. It was released with a software library of zero other than the graphics package that came with it! Very much a what-if because had it taken off the next SAM could have included some games hardware (sprites and scrolling and maybe Amiga & SNES type stuff) and a faster Z80. The British computer industry (once leading the world!) would have lived on. Yeah okay, not very likely....
I remember playing this on the ZX Spectrum. For some reason though it felt like this was before 1989. Must be confusing it without another platform game.
I think it's pretty obvious that the Genesis version is the best looking. I only played the game on the PC and Amiga before it came to XBLA. Really stunned at how poor the SNES version looks though, though the music seems like it's okay.
You've done a great work, a full length movie! I liked to play it in the past on DOS and Amiga. One thing irritated me, that the game was so quiet. Watching your comparison, I noticed that in-game music is present only in 4 versions. The best music for me seems to be in Turbo Grafx. I'll try to find this version, will it run in a PC Engine emu?
That's a marathon work mate, congratulations! well I prefer the Amiga version maybe because I live the machine and it was the first time i saw this game ;-)
I find it silly how Jaffar's name was rendered "Jaffa" in the Sega CD version. Though it was likely a translation error since that version was developed in Japan, where Jaffar's name would likely be rendered ジャアファ. Though, they could've easily realize he was called "Jaffar" in all other versions...
Really? Well it's too bad since I live in Australia and I have no room for a few more consoles, but I guess I can always play them through emulation I suppose. On the other hand, CD-rom emulation is rather difficult for me to get working as they usually have a lot more memory than cartridge based roms. Say, do you know where would be a good place to get roms and emulators for something like PS1 and TG CD? I'd also appreciate it if you could recommend any good emulators for android, if possible.
I vote Sam's Coupe version! The best one ..the machine show its true capabilities ..nothing to go jealous with 16-bit versions .To bad this computer came in wrong time ...if was released at mid at 80's , would be the top best 8-bit home computer all time .
The side-view picture of the girl at the start of the Genesis version (the one where she's holding up her hair), looks just like a cropped version of an adult photo I once downloaded.

Whether this prince is same as that of Sands of time series is still mystery. However, Jaffar's hourglass holds clue in the magical sands within it.
Prince from SoT is different prince. Or he messed with timeline too much
Where's the music in the Genesis version? It definitely should have music. It had it when I played it.
NejoShow I think it's because Emulation, Yeah, the GENS version had some music, not the best (for me) but almost is music.
MetalSonicodraco7342 Apparently, only the PAL version had music. He's playing the NTSC version, I guess. I played it on emulation as well, and it had music.
NejoShow So, the PAL wins again having music (I really like how so many PAL Games have Multi Languagues, sometimes extra stuff and this time Music) Thanks for the info
MetalSonicodraco7342 That's interesting. Can you tell me of other games that the PAL version is THAT different? Since I have no shame in emulating, I would love to try out the PAL version of the games I love :D
What's with the Flash version? How did it originate?
Wow, this is awesome I applaud you for taking the time in creating this video :)
Why does the Sega CD version has voice acting, but the TG16 CD version doesn't?
Flash version is an "Oh God, why?"
Manuel García 8 minutes... wow
Do you mean FMV version on the sega CD? Zoomer casuals, I swear.
This video was really great, I loved it! My favorites are Super Nintendo and DOS versions of the game. How many time was spent with playing this game, I couldn't remember :)
7 weeks off & on of course. Total time invested was probably about 26 hours. This was a huge video & I wanted to do it right with the intros & such. I regret though that I couldn't add the Mac version. But with the video at 1 hour & 22 minutes ... I don't think anyone is hurting too much over it. lol
what about Siemens C55 Version ??? Am I the only one who played this game on this phone ??
+Ясен Събев Have some fond memories of that version
+Ясен Събев yeah, that was cool too with much brighter gfx
There *is* a story in the SAM Coupé version, but you need to press ‘i’ to see it. Video here: ruclips.net/video/Vg9YR8qnQWk/видео.html
As the SAM music is entirely different to the other versions, here’s a link to that, too: ruclips.net/video/MqjVzyiyUo0/видео.html
I grew up on the Atari ST version then vga pc, I've just aquired a PC Engine and thought that version had excellent colourful graphics,
definitely a great version
snes version looked like a pain in the ass to play.
NICE! I've been waiting for this one. Thanks, guys.
Wow the master system out beats the Nes! I never knew of that version, great video!
P.s. Thank you for including the Sega Cd intro, I do notice all the details you add.
Wow they play really well on everything! I guess it helps that it was originally made on an Apple II ?
It's cool. It happens more than You think. Especially on longer videos.
It's so rare so see stuff for the SAMcoupé.
+Daniel T. Didn't even know this computer existed - it looks like a fairly decent computer for the time! Some of the others here, have more colours, but crap sound, and some have better sound, but poor graphics in some way. this SAM coupe looked fairly well designed. Lots of colours, and multiple voice output.

I don't know much about it but I do know it was basicly an upgrade from the ZX Spectrum (a computer I still have) and was very advanced for an 8 bit computer in a time where 16 bit computers and consoles were dominant.
Why is sharp x6800 version so slow and choppy? :/
I think it's pretty obvious that the Genesis version is the best looking. I only played the game on the PC and Amiga before it came to XBLA. Really stunned at how poor the SNES version looks though, though the music seems like it's okay.
Make some pop corn or cheese & nachos... This is a LOOONG one !
The Sega CD anime sequence reminds me a bit to the anime version of Aladdin, created by Toei Studios.
Wow! So many versions - thanks for the hard word. This is awesome!
didn't watch it complete but I'm sure you made hell of a job, congrats!
I am impressed by the spectrum version, it may not be as colourful as the others, but its lost nothing that counts and kept all that does
You've done a great work, a full length movie!
Спасибо за подборку! С любовью из России!
Holy Heck! Another ZX version I never knew about or thought possible!
Not!! the GBC version are the sound issues i have one time that version but i can supported and finally changed for the SPAWN for the SNES
It's still probably the best NES cart ever to carry the LJN logo:)
Though, they could've easily realize he was called "Jaffar" in all other versions...
wow, 1 hour of video, and prince of persia!
Beautiful Anime cutscenes on the SegaCD...
My favorite version
Damn shame we didn't get the FM Towns in America. That version of the game looks and sounds great!
Any additional info: I'd like to see what happens when you are out off time in all this prince of persia
I vote Sam's Coupe version!
The best one ..the machine show its true capabilities ..nothing to go jealous with 16-bit versions .To bad this computer came in wrong time ...if was released at mid at 80's , would be the top best 8-bit home computer all time .
didnt this also get an xbox live remake?
The side-view picture of the girl at the start of the Genesis version (the one where she's holding up her hair), looks just like a cropped version of an adult photo I once downloaded.
