Damn, what a digestive system. I think he swallowed too early...needed to make sure the snake was dead first. And I wonder if the bird can feel the snake squirming around in his stomach. Wouldn't THAT be a trip?
They surely do feel the prey moving in their belly. There’s a video where a Blue Heron swallowed a live fish and it was bouncing around in its stomach probably burning from the digestive juices.
The aliens in "War of the Worlds" in their first travel were terrified by the Earth's herons and ran away. Then, they decided to copy herons for their war machines and went back to the Earth to exterminate humans.
Amazing capture! Wow that looked like some meal for the determined and hungry heron! That big (do you know what kind?) snake seemed to be putting up some fight and really didn't want to go down that long/skinny neck too! So in the end the bird managed to get/keep it down entirely okay? I would think the snake would be quite frantic to turn around (possibly even damage!) and escape the elastic throat/stomach if eaten in that condition as well?!
I don't know where this was taken but that is some species of water snake. Not a moccasin . Best guess; Northern Banded water snake. But if in the South it could be one of several other species.

Just stumbled across this fascinating capture again! Wouldn’t it be great to grab the bird’s neck at 5:58 and save that large (Do you know the type?) snake from sliding all the way down?? Does the unlucky reptile stand any chance itself to turn around and escape (or even damage? Hopefully no harm to the bird.) the heron’s elastic throat/stomach if eaten in that condition as well!?
Their hunting skills is unbelievably vast for such a variety of prey
Dinosaurs have had a long time to evolve.

Snake: I swallow prey whole
Blue Heron: Really

It looks so fragile, but the beak is a weapon!

ultimatemexicano3535 I think it was stabbed enough that it wouldn’t have much strength remaining.
@@RennieAsh Yeah I could see some terrible injuries on the body of the snakes, probably broken a few ribs.
Dangerous work for human but not for this bird...AMAZING
For billions of years. They like those cute chipmunks too. Crunchy goodness.
"fruit by the foot"
What kind of stomach does this thing have? It eats anything live smaller than itself.
Blue herons must have throat muscles like Strang the Terrible, and stomachs made of cast iron.....with pools of hydrochloric acid to boot.

Really? How did you guess it was a water snake?
I don't know what's worse, having snakes or killer Herons in my back garden !
The latter.😄
The snake is alive the whole time.
When it's shaking it like that, it's trying to break its neck.
Amazing. They the snake alive - wriggling inside.
I’d be terribly uncomfortable with my dinner moving in my belly.😄
Great Capture
I wonder if they would eat small babies? They seem to eat anything that is small and moving.

They eat ANYTHING that moves!
wouldn't it get bitten in the stomach though? That snake is still very alive... it's hard to stun a snake just with a little wriggling...

I have one of these things living at a pond behind my house, the birds a beast!
I'm watching the video
Damn snake pop it's head out the other end before big blue swallows the tail! 😄
