Sabri Sisters identity was not doubted by the public per se. One of the late Amjad Sabri's sister was invited to the same morning show as these young ladies and she cast doubt on their identity when she denied even knowing who these young girls were. They are in fact the granddaughters of a third brother of late Ghulam Farid and Maqbool Ahmad Sabri so she most definitely knew who the girls were. Why she cast doubt on the girls family link to her family is anybody's guess : family rivalries/rifts? Maybe. Qawwals have traditionally only been men and women from the same families are sometimes trained in classical music, but they almost never perform in public, so maybe a consevative view about women singing in public? Public singing by women is still frowned upon among more conservative Muslim communities in the Subcontinent. We don't know the reasons. But the girls were saddened of course that their lineage was denied in such a public manner by their own family member. And of course it did cause some people to maybe suspect they were using the Sabri name for publicity and carreer advancement while not being related to the famous Sabri Brothers. The all in fact come from the same family.
