- The Nabataeans were an ancient Arab people who inhabited the territories of Jordan, southern Israel, the Sinai Peninsula, and the north-eastern Saudi Arabia. They established a kingdom in the 3rd century BC, that resisted until 106 AD, when it was conquered by the Roman Empire, who established there the province of Arabia Petraea. The capital of the Nabataean kingdom was Petra, a city famous today for its rock-cut architecture. The Nabataeans' main source of wealth was their monopoly on the rich caravan trade that ran from Yemen to the Mediterranean port city of Gaza. The first historically attested king of the Nabataeans was Aretas I around 168 BC. The Nabataean Kingdom reached its greatest extent during the reign of Aretas III.

The Nabateans were never forgotten by the way. The Tribes that made up the Nabateans continued on in the same geographical region and formed under various states of autonomy and roman citizenship, Arab Nabatean Archers were conscripted in the roman armies as well. The Nabateans embraced 1st century Christianity and produced a number of Canonised Saints in the Orthodox Church. They produced the Roman Emperor Philip "The Arab" who ruled out of Bostra. Other tribes inhabited what became the autonomous region of the Roman Decapolis (most of the 10 Free Cities are in Jordan today.) Some tribes integrated along the desert routes towards Palmyra in eastern Syria. They also maintained their land trade route monopoly on goods coming from the south. Their descendents "The Ghassanids" remained well into the Byzantine Era and until the Rise of Islam in the 7th century.

@@laithalzoubi54 It is believed that Nabateans traveled north from yemen. Then, through time, the Al-Azd tribes formed from the Nabateans and the Ghassanids formed from the Al-Azd lineage.

Very interesting, well done! Although I wouldn´t say that Petra was unknown to the world. It was unknown to the West, but the bedouin tribes who lived in the region did know for sure about the ruins.

THE NABATEANS decended from ISHMAEL who's eldest Son was Nabat, hence Nabateans. It was recorded in the Ishmaelite historical documents . He was half brother to Isaac just as the Bible states!
@علي ياسر Most of the time yes. But that is up to the father. Jacob was younger and got the inheritance through tricking his brother and Joesph gave his inheritance to his younger son too. The Bible shows this because it is ultimately God's Will who gets what. ------Except in Jesus's case. Jesus was the firstborn and did inherit the kingdom. ------because he made the ULTIMATE sacrifice out of love for God's people. Would you have been whipped with a cat of nine tails and flesh being ripped from you? Been stabbed on your head by having a crown of SHARP thorns rammed on your head....then have to carry a hundred pound peice of a wooden cross while bleeding profusely and THEN had nails be hammered into your hands and feet. You have to love someone deeply to do that! Not only that, the STRENGTH and fortitude Jesus had to still live for THREE days without dying and having nothing to drink but something from a bitter sponge! He never tapped out. He even took the place of REAL criminal who didnt appreciate it! And while on that Cross comforted another criminal that cried out to him! THAT is WHY I love Jesus so much......even in the mist of his own suffering he took the blame for and comforted others. What a way to LOVE!
@علي ياسر Sir, You got some messed up info on Jesus His mother was NOT and adulterous. There were three different Mary's they are not all the same one! Mary was a common name for women back then. Here is an example my Ancestor, Franz Shubert, who composed and wrote Avia Maria had his MOTHER, AND TWO SISERS ALL named Maria. My moms sisters name was ALSO named Maria. Jesus's real name was Yeshua, which is Joshua in English Yeshua was ALSO a popular and common name just like Lily is here in the south! So, He is referred to now as Yeshua Meshiach. Mecca was not any important city back then. The trade route from Yemen to Petra goes through the oasis in the desert. There’s no water in Mecca, no water no city.

There are so many flaws in historical records regarding Petra. Historical scholars I believe were rushing to establish the advanced civilization developed by the Nabateans which the connotations of Nabateans become a truly civilized tribe are weak. One thing to remember that many ancient Arab tribes and nomads are illiterate people. Looking at different influence (eg. Greek and Egypt) architecture in Petra's buildings we could suspect that Petra was one of the gathering places for merchants from many regions and where Nabateans somehow attracted to this place for trades and other social activities. Now, we could not find any human related to Nabateans origin and it seems they were all dead mysteriously? Junk.
