Hawking basically said that Newton was a giant on whose shoulders Einstein stood. Einstein correctly rebutted that he (Einstein) is one of the giants on whose shoulders Hawking stood (and then added the "can't stand" joke, which was a cheap shot, IMO).
I think my favorite line in this one was Hawking's reference to Carl Sagan's famous quotable, "If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe." Hawking also dropped what is probably the dopest (and simultaneously nerdiest) "yo mamma" joke I've ever heard.
Way off topic but did you ever see the Family Guy episode where Hawking was banging his wife who had the same condition in the chair? I laughed my ass off but felt like I was going to hell at the same time! You should check it out if you haven't LOL
They're both standing on the shoulders of Newton.
"Dropping Apples" is a reference to the popular story that Newton first got the idea for the concept of Gravity when he sat under an Appletree and an Apple fell on his head. I don't know how historically accurate it is, but is quite a famous story at least. And since Newton is one of the most influential Scientists of history he is the "Giant" most Scientists build on top of.
it could also be a double as some planets are categorized as Gas Giants, so he could be saying that he's on another planet compared to him.
@@UltimateGamerCC now that's deep shit right there! It most certainly could be a double
Perfect comment and makes even more sense with reference to Newton vs. Bill Nye ERB battle and, of course how it inspired Newton with his laws of motion. A couple of great bars (to me) relate to the brief history of (Einstein used it as a diss, but Hawking had a book with the title.... "A Brief History In Time.... I think). Then the hole in the black hole theory. Great bar, but a science bar (along with p-brane) that the average person will not get unless they look it up. It is great though, and it was really a major criticism for Hawking's theory. Best I can remember from a documentary though was the possibility it (or at least things traveling/existing) at speeds faster than light (represented by the c squared in Einstein's equation) can be explained by Hawking radiation (or maybe how things react with dark matter, I'm not sure). I'm a science person, but definitely not an expert as this quickly gets way over my head.
while it’s true Newtons story about the apple is popular and well known, i’ve heard that he made it up to sell people on the idea that he came up with gravity. speaking of standing on shoulders of giants, I heard he merely read about gravity from studies from India then ripped it off.
I always thought the story was that he saw an apple fall from a tree, not that it fell on his head.
If I have seen further,” Isaac Newton wrote in a 1675 letter to fellow scientist Robert Hooke, “it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”
The most underrated bar of this entire battle was Hawkin's "You wanna bring the heat with the mushroom clouds you're making?" Mushroom clouds as in nuclear explosions, since Einstein's work was used to develop the atomic bomb
The information paradox was the big hole in the theory.
Basically he predicted that black holes can evaporate over time if they are not being fed new matter… It takes countless billions of years, but it would happen. This theory is widely accepted now.
The problem is that the if a black hole evaporates, it essentially would destroy the quantum information that is wrapped up in the matter that had fallen into it. As the method of a black hole evaporating due to matter/anti-matter interactions at the edge of the event horizon would slowly cause it to lose mass.
This method of evaporation would seem to allow the information locked into the black hole to just disappear. This is a big problem.
Hawking later refined the theory to explain how the information paradox would not occur. This help solidify the theory and it gained more acceptance. Evidence points to it being accurate as well.
The hole in Steven Hawking's Black Hole Theory was that matter cannot be destroyed. His original theory had Black Holes just gathering data(matter/energy) and disappearing into itself, basically destroying itself. As Einstein said 'you can't destroy matter' it only becomes another form of energy. Other theoretical physicists saw this flaw and Hawking was forced to rework his theory. He was very nearly laughed out of theoretical physics for this blunder. It now states that Black Holes gather data(matter/energy) and dissipate through expelling a specific kind of radiation, which has since been detected confirming the Theory.
Lol.. thank you for this I just wrote practically a damn thesis about everything you just said LOL sorry about that at least we are on the same page🤟🌍🪐☄🤓
And I wonder 🤔 about the time travel theory...I've watched wayyyy too much Star Trek lol..for example, when you are in the transporter..The individual is dematerialized atom by atom and then transmitted (through air or space or a mysterious ether) to the desired destination, where the atomized bits are then reassembled after passing through a biofilter to get rid of alien bugs or contamination.. You're here one moment, and thousands of miles away the next. Instant transportation..BUT, being beamed up is fascinating to me and others who have debated questions of persistence of identity. If I am dematerialized in one place and rematerialized in another, am I still me? And how do I know? 😳😳👀👀🙊🙉🙈🤓🤓
Damn...I have wayyyy too much time on my hands lol
@@BackyardButcher they are indeed fun intellectual avenues to explore. I think about these kinds things often as well. It is a fascinating thing to think about, does the person after the transport alter from the original in some nigh-imperceptible way? Does the question even matter to you? The Amazon Prime cartoon Invincible has a bad guy that goes through a cloning process so that a version of him may live on, even if it is not technically him.
Time travel is a whole other wild subject. Lol. I enjoy the timey-wimy explanation the best. Lol. There are a lot of interesting things about the concept and application of time travel.
@@scifywriter9768 oh my God, bless you fellow nerd! You are spot-on LOL nice to meet you I'm Heather from Nashville
@@BackyardButcher always a pleasure having nerdy discussions. I'm Dan from Baltimore, MD. Though now I'm in Eugene, OR.
“On the Shoulders of Giants” is also a Stephen Hawking book. Bar and a half, if you ask me.
As is “A Brief History of Time”

Missed your ERB reactions
Einstein: "Bro, you can't even walk."
Hawking: "Only because my brain is so f*cking heavy, b!tch."
Also, Dave, you should check out the Super Meat Boy rap by Dan Bull.
Hell yeah! That one is a BANGER..great suggestion
@@BackyardButcher Thanks.
I will give this to Einstein. One thing that he has always amazed me was how so far ahead of technology he was. To this day he has equations and formulas that modern-day physicists and scientists cannot debunk. In the world of science, nothing is 100%, only 99%. As a scientist, you have to do everything you can to disprove that 1%. Einstein's theories have yet to be debunked to this day. Considering all the technology we have, I think it's quite amazing. Maybe one day in the future, but as of now, modern-day scientists and physicists cannot debunk his equations, try as they might. Much respect to him! As far as Hawking goes, many of his ideas, though genius in theory, have not been completely embraced by the scientific community. His use of quantum physics and parallel universes through black holes and the string theory sound wonderful, but not every physicist has jumped on board, still leaving Einstein the king, IMO. And as a personal opinion of mine, Hawking was an atheist. He believed that the Big Bang Theory alone is what created the universe. He believed that matter was not infinite. Einstein proved that entropy in the universe maintains matter, and matter becomes matter, becomes matter, even after your body is long gone and dead, you are matter, and you are infinite. You can take that to the bank whether you believe in God or not. But he straight out defied God's creation, and in my beliefs, God created the universe. He gave man a brain to explore His beauty of space, time, the universe, and all that it beholds. Those are just my thoughts sorry for nerding out on you but I love that stuff!🤓🛰🌌🚀☄✝️🪐🌍
You are right. Actually Hawkings was known to be quite obsessed with Einstein and it drove him mad that his theories were disproven, while Einstein's kept standing. Knowing Einstein was a Zionist, Hawkings even joined the "palestinian" cause; this shows you what type of person we're dealing with. Obsessed and filled with hate. As you said: Hawkings is failing because he tries to deny the Lord and is fighting with a blind hatred towards one of the children of the Lord, while Einstein was maybe not that religious, he respected the tradition and concluded that there must be a creator.
Almost out of ERB? As a canadian may I suggest "The Beauty of Hockey, the greatest game on the planet". I love seeing people discover how deep the game can go. Great reaction btw!
This is one of my favorites lmao love it so much, for one of the earlier ones this one hit hard
Dave..I ❤ you!! Thanks for this! Nerding out with you, Dave!!
You're laugh is contagious! Beautiful smile ❤🐐🤟👊🔥😘
Been waiting to see you do this one for a hot minute! 😆
Whatup Dave! Been awhile, this is my fav erb ever, lets gooo
Even Carl Sagan stuck around for that “oooo 🫣” at the end
I'd say the giants line is just a diss at Einstein since the point is that Hawking can see farther since he came after.
Shoulders of Giants like Google said is a metaphor (analogy) stating you are building on others previous work.
Example. A person made an engine.
You find ways to make the engine faster, more powerful, more fuel-efficient.
You took one idea and improved or found a way to make it better (or used differently)
A fire engine or a ladder truck would be a specific use improvement.
Just as example.
Standing on the shoulders of giants is a metaphor for people who's success is actually owed to many people before them in the same field
basically hawkings tried his whole life being better than einstein. it drove him insane. because even after einstein's death, einstein's theories kept being proven correct despite there was no way in that time to know or proof it, while hawkings theories with the most advanced equipment, have mostly been proven wrong whenever he tried to prove einstein wrong.
Been bugging me, but that mc squared line don't make sense. Squared means an exponent of 2, which means 1x1 which is still just 1.
6:28 he’s also saying Einstein isn’t a giant to him and he’s below him and the giants
Pausing after every "Bar" to analyze & or give information makes the video longer than it needs to be.
I pause when I feel the need too.
This one brings my nerdy heart joy.
The ten million million million million million million particulars bar has always been one of my favorite lines of their earlier raps. They're saying in the entire observable universe all the ugly molecules put together create Einstein. Like I love my boi Albert, I did a paper on him. But damn, that bar is so hot it turns matter into light lol.
Oh and correct me if I'm wrong but I think Hawking's black hole theory was proven correct when we saw one through a telescope last year.
Adding "s" unneccessarily to the end of certain words/sounds is an observed characteristic of African American dialects of English, mostly but not strictly limited to the South. I'm NOT talking about the racist stereotype "Ebonics", I'm talking real Black American English, don't get it twisted. It just is how the dialect evolved, and there are scholarly works that have studied it.
you need to react to an Italian band called Måneskin. They won this years Eurovision Competition. just make sure you have the English translation for some of their songs. you wont regret listening to them I promise!
The thing with Hawking is because of his disability's he did most of his work in his head.
Please react to Hayek vs Keynes rap battle
Flow
you IQ is about as good as mine and we both know how to use google...and can admit when we don't know something...i knew p-brane was something to do with science...but no clue what it was...still no clue...i was thinking membrane as in cell membrane...
i'd still give it to Hawking, he had the flow, and his bars was better than Einstein's, Einstein had like one good bar in him.
