  • So here we test out the brand new 40V XGT compact SDS rotary hammer from Makita! Called the HR010 or GRH10Z , we also compare to 3 hammers we've seen before, the Makita DHR183, DHR242 (XRH01) and HR001 (GRH01).

    I just bought the dhr183 without doing any research, mainly for the 2 X 5.0ah and $100 makcash can't wait to use it on site

    @toolscientist 7 месяцев назад +5

    So the DHR182 is finally dethroned! I was a bit meh on the HR010 due to it's weight increase over the DHR183. But then it beat the DHR182 and DHR242. I know the DHR242 is just usable one-handed, so the HR010 should be great.

      That thing is really impressive. I wasn't expecting much cos I thought it was just a 40v version of the 183 but it turns out it's the hammer I've been waiting for all along: a drop motor 182🤩 but, even better. Which is no mean feat, cos there's only so many things you can do to improve the hammer mechanism itself

      @BoltahDownunder I only wished they'd used a single finger trigger like the DHR183. The only rotohammer I'd want a 2-finger trigger on would be an SDS-MAX

    Mate I bought the HR010 solely on this review just under 2 weeks ago. I'm not blaming you, but I got less than 3 days out of it drilling 12-16mm holes before it died in the arse. The well known Sydney tool retailer from whom I purchased it refused to replace it given that it was outside 7 days, by 2 days(fair enough I guess policy is policy), but the Makita rep refused to authorise a replacement. I was just commencing the process of changing my platform from Milwaukee to Makita 40V.
    I expected a whole lot more from Makita and boy am I bloody disappointed!

      @@BoltahDownunder Boltah try this on for size. I got call from the retailer I purchased the rotary hammer from. After they viewed the photos of what I was using the drill for, which was to drill a series of holes into concrete footings to place N16 rebar for starter bars, that had been overlooked during the pour, the NSW Makita rep suggested that the HR010 wasn't up to the task and that a better choice was the Makita HR008GZ01
      So the HR010 is rated to 20mm and that is likely a stretch. You tell me, because I'm totally confused

  • @nicoquattro3950

    great man, finally some good testing. Even with specially poured concrete. Really cool. Any chance you can test some of the dust extractors? There is somehow no video or something out there with the dust extractor for the DHR183/HR010. How I understand it is that the fan on the brushless motor provides the suction. And is there a hook you can attatch to the DHR183/HR010? There are these humps under the handle on the right side of the tool.
    Was always a fan of the HR001g, but when the HR010 has the same functions but is quite a bit compacter i would go with it

    • @BoltahDownunder
      @BoltahDownunder  7 месяцев назад +3

      Cheers mate! Yes specially poured from the same batch. You can't really compare between drills unless it's the same concrete. Pain in the ass but it means I've got stable workpieces over time.
      The motor fan does provide suction it has a big panel that opens to the fan on the bottom.
      The Small guys have a Tool Hanger (not included) that's not a hook but an eye you can attach a lanyard to.
      And yeah if you use a Hr001 for drilling lots of small holes I can suggest trying the HR010 as it's plenty fast at 12mm but much lighter that the hr001

      @@BoltahDownunder thanks for the answer. I looked a bit now, the HR010 bare tool is currently 221€ here in germany. Not bad for a brand new 40v tool i think. The dust extractor is 83€ bare tool, and hopefully they create a few more kits. Now you can only get everything bare tool, or the kit with hammer drill, dust extractor, makpac, 2x 2,5ah batteries and a charger for 600. Dont need any batteries or charger, and they havent made a plastic insert for the kit.
      Bit for the tool hanger: didnt find anything for the HR010.

    • @BoltahDownunder
      @BoltahDownunder  7 месяцев назад +2

      221eur is slightly less than it cost here with current rates! It's still very new so I'm sure kits will come in time. Also, I think The channel Tools and Stuff did a review of the dust extractor if that helps you. I don't have any yet, and don't really know how to quantify their performance but it's something I aim to do eventually.
      Looks like the tool hanger (bad Google search term!) Is sold as the 1911k0-5 hook set, at least in Australia

    Can you test 010 with 2.5mah battery? So we can compare it with 182 with equivalent battery power. Runtime test with it is also very interesting. And how much is it slowing down while the small battery is running out.

    How fast is the torque limiter on the HR010G?
    They don't advertise it with the AFT tech like the bigger sister model but the manual still says it has a torque limiter. So maybe it doesn't cut off if the tool rotates completely freely but cuts out quick enough in a bind to not need it.

    • @BoltahDownunder
      @BoltahDownunder  7 месяцев назад +1

      Lemme do some testing! So far I can tell you it's not based on acceleration, so it'll probably be some current sensor. I'm not sure if/which method is superior, but I'd say it's fine, not least because the 010 probably doesn't have super hazardous levels of torque

Somehow I haven't published the granite tests I did like 3 years ago, but she got 34 holes in 12mm & 46.5(!) in 10mm, with a 5ah.

    Hello, I was browsing rotary hammers, found your videos and subscribed already.
    For quite a long time I've been looking for the most compact/fastest drilling/ chiseling mode possibld rotary hammer.
    Got my eyes into Hilti TE 6 A22 even though it's not small, but Hilti did very well with that one.
    Couple months ago I saw that new 18v Makita you showed here, however doesn't have chiseling mode...it would've been PERFECT.
    Personal daily use at work is 99% of the time drilling 6mm and 8mm anchors into masonry and concrete and light("cleaning") chiseling here and there...nothing crazy.
    All my tools are Makita 18v and I'd like to stick using the same battery and charger. That new small 40v seems great...temptation popping lol.
    Which you be your suggestion for my needs?
    Thanks

      So a compact Makita 3 mode in 18V? There's only one and it happens to be about the overall best small hammer on the market, the Dhr182.
      It can be seen in this and a few other videos
      ruclips.net/video/MvO3wxIvAgY/видео.html
      The only thing I don't like about it is the pistol grip, but that's no big deal. It wouldn't even notice drilling 6mm holes if that's what you do often

    What's the balance of the HR010G compared to the DHR182? Both same weight, but I guess HR010G is a little more front heavy.

    • @BoltahDownunder
      @BoltahDownunder  7 месяцев назад +3

      Ok so the 010 is 3.16kg with battery, 182 is 2.8kg. They felt about the same weight to me in one hand (before I weighed them), but the 010 is easier to raise & manoeuvre generally because its centre of gravity is further back. The 182's COG is basically where that big fan vent is just behind where the black & teal meet. The 010 COG is directly in front of the trigger, about 40mm closer to your hand than the 182. I'm gonna try to quantify this in future, so thanks for the inspo!

    • @toolscientist
      @toolscientist 7 месяцев назад +2

      @BoltahDownunder 2.5ah is 686g vs 1010g for 4ah. So with equiv battery, HR010G is 320g lighter and then they're nearly identical weight.
      Sounds like it's almost the perfect bolting hammer, apart from the 2 finger trigger. I guess the DHR183 would be better due to the lighter weight if you're only drilling 8mm.

    • @BoltahDownunder
