Sig BDX AB External Demonstration.

  • There have been some questions about the new Sig Sauer BDX Systems. While they natively have the AB Ultralite Engine (800 yard limit for firing solutions) some of them (2400 models and up) are equipped with dual mode. Which means they can be set to AB External mode and in that case they will connect to a Garmin or Kestrel in order to pull firing solutions. Or to even update the range on the external device. Even in AB External mode they will remain paired to the scope. So you can use your Garmin/Kestrel/(Insert new product you will see soon here) and your Sig 3000 BDX to get firing solutions for ELR events. This works witll ALL BDX Scopes, as long as the paired range finder is a 2400 model or up.
    Wind can also be input and electronically calculated with these scopes. It was just not demonstrated in this video. We plan to demonstrate more and more as time goes on.

    Best review on the BDX I've seen so far! So is the yellow dot in the scope also compensating and adjusting for the wind (windage) data presented by the Kestrel as well; or just for the distance the the KILO 2400 LRF is lasering?

    What are the differences between ultralight vs elite engines? If I want to use Elite engine on BDX, do I have to buy a third device like Kestrel? Don't you have an app or something that can do it without the third device?

    • @DocBeech
      @DocBeech 5 лет назад +1

      The Ultralite Engine requires a minimum number of inputs and designed for speed and ease of use. It will get you 1 MOA accuracy out to 800 yards, and does include the AB Connect™ system and our library. The Elite Engine provides firing solutions out beyond 2 miles, but requires more detailed inputs.
      You will need to have a 3rd device connected to the BDX system to utilize the Elite system. Either a Kestrel Elite or Garmin 701.

    • @TheCrackary
      @TheCrackary 3 года назад +2

      @@TheSugus38 That is a question that can have many answers depending on who you ask and what their particular use is. One is a "weather station"/ballistic computer and the other is a GPS navigational device/ballistics computer. While wind speed and direction is an important part of the equation there are times where an anemometer cant be used effectively, ie: shooting from cover or where the effect of distance or terrain would require the shooter to judge wind conditions between themselves and the target and use dope card to calculate a firing soloution. Dollar for dollar if you already had an anemometer as part of your shooting kit i could see where someone would opt to buy a navigational device/ballistic computer over buying another anemomter just to have a ballistic computer.

    I just got the Kilo3000 and got my 5700 elite with link. I am waiting on my sierra6 but I was wondering what will the max holdover be on a .338 lapua and 6.5 PRC. I understand that Sierra6 is not designed with adjustable turret to dial so I’m wondering what will my max range be using sierra6

    • @DocBeech
      @DocBeech 4 года назад +1

      It depends on your muzzle velocity, the bullets BC and a host of other factors.

    • @regularguy8334
      @regularguy8334 4 года назад +1

      Doc Beech so let’s say 6.5 PRC has MV of 2910 and BC of .351 any other factors are what you want them to be so let’s say they are perfect. Or take any caliber you would like and give me a ballpark for max holdover it will provide. Being that it’s not supposed to dialed I’m trying to get a ballpark range I can extrapolate from any data you provide but I was hoping for some numerical answer. For example when we had our hands on it we used 6.5 Creedmore data with MV of 2610 and we were able to range a target at 1600yd and holdover was 50 MOA up on the kestrel and dot was at the very bottom of the scope so not much was left there... I can take it from there.

    Slightly off topic, but you understand the BDX system well. I read in a magazine review that if you wanted to enter or adjust for the actual center height of your rifle scope above the rifle bore axis, you'd have to purchase the 2400 BDX model. Is that even true? I downloaded the Sig Sauer BDX app and do not see any option for changing this value. My concern is that the rifle scope will probably sit higher on a chassis style rifle than on a regular bolt action. Wouldn't this introduce some error in the calculated holdover?

    • @DocBeech
      @DocBeech 5 лет назад

      Any small errors like this, can be simply adjusted by altering the MV.

    It doesn't update the Target Direction from what I can see. Guess there is NO Compass in the Rangefinder which would be really useful if you just have the Kestrel Elite.

    • @DocBeech
      @DocBeech 5 лет назад

      The Ultralite™ Engine does not require firing direction. Coriolis is not calculated in the Ultralite™ Engine. When doing Elite calculations, the compass inside the Kestrel Elite is used for Target Direction. Once paired up in ABE mode, the solver inside the BDX is no longer used and all the calculations are being done in the connected device.

    • @AppliedBallisticsLLC

      Without an AB Elite Device (Kestrel, Garmin, More stuff to come) the answer is no. With the device is External mode it is pulling the firing solution from another device while providing the range to that device. When operating off its internal system it is using the Ultraite™ engine it is restricted to 800 yards or less.
