    Maybe you can play Jose once a month ,( more or less ), over the next year so that we can all see his progress, ( kind of a sub chapter to your own story ). He was a bit nervous on this first go around ; so I have to think he will improve each time he plays on one of your videos. That would be fun to watch. Also, thought you lived in Austin ? We’re you in Houston for a visit or did you move there.

    You had a great first year of tennis Trey, You have improved so much. I also started this year as a 3.0 and getting a coach earlier part of the year has helped do wonders for me. . This year I went to USTA Men's 3.5: Regional 2023 ,USTA Men's 6.5: Sectionals 2023 (undefeated local season), USTA Tri-Level 3.0 - 4.0 : Sectionals 2023 (sectionals coming up next month)
    and Banana Open Men's Doubles Champion - 2023
    I'll be playing 4.0 this coming 2024 spring.
    There are a few pointers Jose needs,
    Pro Radical Head for a high school student is one of the worse choices to have for a racquet. , even recreational players shouldn't be using that racquet unless they are like 4.0+ . Reason is because of the weight of it and how to swing it. If you aren't ready in time, you will always be late and it is really tough on the arm. The strings are perfectly fine though.
    He drops his left arm a lot which messes up balance for when hitting a forehand . He always goes for that slice forehand. Slicing a forehand constantly will be read by an opponent and always give them easy balls to put away since they know it is coming. He is never ready when he swings, and has his hand dropped even when running, which will automatically make him miss a backhand since he uses a 2 handed.

    Jose, next time you play Trey. BACKHAND! BACKHAND! BACKHAND! You hit to Treys backhand 4 times in the match. Not screamers just normal balls. You won all 4 points. Three times it resulted in a outright error. On the fourth one, Treys so uncomfortable hitting backhands that he was praying that it was out but it landed in and he didn’t even swing at it. Yes Trey works like crazy to run around to avoid hitting a backhand. But if you hit a normal ball to the backhand side he’ll hit a forehand from there, this will leave a huge gap on the Duce side. Hit the next ball normally to the forehand side (not a screamer). Trey will almost certainly run it down but it will force Trey to to hit a running forehand. Trey is not very good at hitting running forehands. This pattern will allow you to take advantage of two of his weaknesses. I kinda had to laugh when your friends were strategizing between points. “Keep him away from the net. He’s kinda big” . The volley is one of his biggest weaknesses. Look at the video can you actually say that any of the shots you hit to him when he was at the net was a quality ball? You gave him sitting ducks to volley. Even someone with a flawed volley technique would have a hard time missing those balls. If you’re having trouble with Treys service pace take a couple of steps back. Lastly as I always harp on Trey, learn to Split Step. To a beginner it may seem trivial but it’s no less important than having a good forehand or serve. It will enhance every part of your game outside of the serve.

      Exactly what I was going to write. I don’t think the racquet matters much, but the strings definitely. He can help himself out by a full synthetic gut. First, it’s cheaper. Second, it will give more power/depth. Third, it will be gentler on his young arm. Polys won’t help him at all until he develops a faster racquet head speed. He can go multifilament too but it will cost more.

      @Dasato123 9 месяцев назад +1

      I’d say that for a HS kid who’s only been playing a year he’s got a good framework in place for future development. 1) The fact that he serves with a continental grip actually makes him a littlest better than average and speaks well of whoever coached him since this is a grip that is rarely naturally used by beginners and usually has to be taught. (Usually this involves having to glue the students hand to the racket in the proper position). 2) He has a two handed backhand and a one handed slice. This is another thing that usually needs to be taught. 3) From the opening interview you could see this kid was a bundle of nerves. I’d almost guarantee we only got to see a fraction of his normal playing ability. 4) I’d say the major difference in this match was actually the huge difference in physicality. Trey is 6’ 4 and athletically at the high end of the spectrum. Jose is almost a foot shorter and and much less mature athletically, really it’s what you normally see in a HS kid. (Jose don’t just because you’re not playing football or basketball doesn’t mean you should neglect the physical side of sports. Some running work outside the tennis court and weightlifting will go a long way especially since few tennis players consistently do these things and at your age it can make a huge difference. Make use of those new adolescent hormones in the weight room).

      Tennis takes time, you’re just starting, plus the nerves and the camera.. I’ve been playing tennis for 17 years and I do have a one piece of advice if you’re interested. On your forehand, you should involve your left hand in three parts: 1. The racquet take back: the left hand should hold the neck of the racquet for stability and let go about when your racquet passes your right shoulder. 2. Before you swing: the left arm should be stretched forward with your left hand around where you will make contact, again for stability and setting your body to the right position. 3. As soon as you start swinging: the left arm should be pulled up where your left hand is up by your left shoulder and then catch the racquet in your left hand at the end of the swing. This will make your forehand motion much more reliable and have more power right away. Good luck on your tennis journey!!

    He seemed like such a good kid. Really brave to come on here. There was something there in his serve and forehand just needs more practice with good players. And like trey said, get a bucket of balls and grind it out. You can do that when you're young. Not when you're an old fat fart like me. After about a bucket and a half my arm is ready to go home.
    Jose does seem a bit behind athletically. But hopefully as he grows physically his coordination, anticipation improve. Trey had a huge advantage in physicality in this match.
    Trey good to see you are moving your feet a bit more. Especially on your forehand. You mentioned early on you had "found something". Funny that by the end of the match you were back to what was comfortable and started missing. Tennis is funny like that. It can all make sense all at once. Like you have found the key to tennis. A couple games later you are missing again.
