    For those saying the second guy didn't "look" like a 10 UTR, all you're telling us is that you've never played someone of that caliber.
    That is what a really good player looks like when they know they're going to win.
    Maybe he would have put in more effort if it wasn't pretty clear Trey was gassed before the match begun. But if you're able to completely neutralize your opponents biggest weapon, that means you need to conserve energy and maybe work on something to keep you focused.
    But what you're not going to do is go all out and burn through your energy reserves before playing your next match against someone probably closer to your level.

    Your improvement is super strong. Keep playing tougher competition and you’ll figure it out. Got to get down low and spin up off those incoming slices. Better players will get the serve back but you still had chances to attack the chipped returns and start dictating points. Opponent was solid but may have been different if you’d had an easier time in that first grinding win, great job!

    Hi Trey, you should get the award for the most improved player, your progress is phenomenal. My suggestion is to practice playing efficient tennis matches. I mean play to win points under 4 or 5 shots. It seems your nature is to be a fighter in the court which is great, but that is why you want to practice efficient tennis so you don’t die every time you play a competitive match. I understand that in the money UTR tournament you want to do whatever it takes to get the W, but you can practice efficient tennis in UTR flex leagues for example with players within your UTR range.

    Fun video!! Playing two matches in the same day is brutal man, you were too tired for the second one. I can see you're a natural for sports, considering that you're playing tennis for not so long your level is crazy good. Specially that serve hahaha it's way better than mine and I've been playing my whole life. In terms of improvement I would say you can become more savvy and tricky with your tactics (playing more matches will give you that) and definitely improve your touch at the net (again just a matter of playing, trial and error). Keep it up, greetings from Spain!

    Double Bagle? Ouccchhhh. Thompson had that game on auto-pilot and did not put much sweat into that. He could smell the lack of experience. I think your serve is looking really solid and great though, and if you can hold serve, you'll be much better in the match point for point. LETS GO!

  • @DaekathSlays
    @DaekathSlays 6 месяцев назад +2

    a little bit of strategic advice, if someone ( elijah in this case) is always running around their backhand and hitting practically 100% forehands its because their backhand sucks so you need to pressure it more. He is running around the backhand because he has no faith in it and so you need to channel your inner michael chang and just make him hit backhands until he proves that he can extend the rally out of the backhand side. if he wants to run off the court in order to run around a backhand and hit a forehand then you just go back crosscourt to his forehand, making him play a rubbish pickup shot if he gets to it and you come into the net and put away the volley. Pay attention to your opponent and they will tell you how to beat them

  • @Tan12
    @Tan12 6 месяцев назад +6

    Haven't watched you in a while and it looks like you've improved a ton! Watching that second match, I don't think there was anything you did terribly wrong considering your current toolkit, you just need better movement, placement (on both serve and groundstrokes), and consistency to hang with a guy like that. More power and spin always helps too of course, but that should be a secondary priority for now or it'll probably just screw you up. I know that's basically saying "get good" but that's just the game sometimes, lol.

    Playing great dude !! Getting so much better.
    Looking at the match against Thompson - (imo) it looks like you could use your legs more on your ground strokes to get beneath the ball so you can drive through it more, instead of trying to use your wrist to get underneath it. Really hard when you’re so gassed already but it’ll help with the balls you were dumping into the net.
    One other thought, especially when you’re playing someone so much better than you is just go into every point with a game plan and really focus on that. Even just something like “I’m gonna serve to his backhand then try to hit every ball high and deep to his backhand” or something. Could be wrong here since I’m not in your head but it looked like you were just trying to swing for the fences to keep up. From the points you showed it looks like he landed on pulling you into the net and passing you once he saw how tired you were. All this easier said than done but playing someone above you like that is a good chance to develop those muscles even if you end up losing. Scoreboard don’t matter, just focus on playing and developing the kind of tennis you want to play.
    You’re crushing it dude keep it up

    first off, you've gotten so much better this summer it's not even funny!
    I think you're right to keep working on the volleys like you did in your series last week. I think it's technically the easiest stroke since it's so compact and it'll be the biggest bang for your buck since you're so tall. I think double down on that process to make sure your grips are where they need to be, you're moving in rhythm when approaching the net, and you build a better understanding of where you need to place the ball for it to be "good enough". Two Minute Tennis will be all you need from a technical coaching perspective and then from there I think you just follow the process you've been following: tons of reps on video, watch the video, compete, repeat

    I think someone already mentioned a part of this with mentioning starting to get some variation in your serves but point construction is definitely the next step for you. You're a solid player and your next jump should not only be hitting with confidence but hitting with purpose. It feels like you're just a little too often just trying not to lose the point instead of win the point and that's a tough way to get victories against stronger opponents.

    A remedy for you cooler sandwich problem. Instead of ice, freeze a couple of used plastic water bottles filled about 3/4 full. They won’t leak and give you a backup/emergency source of drinking water. Don’t use those real thin flimsy plastic bottles and remember water expands when frozen so it’s safer not to put a unopened water bottle in the freezer it could burst.

      Good first match win, it displayed some guts. The second match was more educationally valuable for you. As much as everyone likes to compliment your serve, the truth is hopefully you’ll look back on these vids someday and realize that you were just displaying a fraction of your future service abilities. Placement, variety, speed and consistency will all hopefully be significantly better in the future. Don’t let complements keep you from believing that even the strongest parts of your current game can’t get significantly better. Thompson sliced back all but one service return even on the forehand side. Your game was absolutely no threat to him and he knew it. I give him credit for being very accommodating and not disrespecting you. Like I would hope you would be nice to some elementary school kid playing one on one in basketball. If you think I’m wrong look at the underspin shots he gives you. They get progressively floatier/softer as the match goes on like he’s trying to give you opportunities to put some pressure on him. His serves looked like half speed spin serves. It’s very similar to the old vid you did where you played a couple of college guys. They started slicing a lot just to keep a rally going. Control and placement are extremely important foundational skills that are often just glazed over by today’s power/topspin tennis community. Thompson limited himself to these skills and still won handily because they are as important and as devastating as any big forehand.

      Start with games. Then move on to playing just one regular set. If one set feels too long, you could also play fast 4. That means get to 4 games won, and winning by 2, you win the set. If the score is 3-3 you decide with a tiebreak to 7, just like it would be in a normal set if the score is 6-6. So 4-0, 4-1 and 4-2 is a won set without tiebreak. If you win the set by tiebreak it's 4-3.

    Man, you are improving at light speed. Might not feel that way after getting double bagled, but that was a very solid opponent too.
    Like others have mentioned, your serve is all power no placement. While you are still in your tennis youth I would really try to avoid crossing over with your right foot too - not that it's hurting you right now. "touch & feel" needs work: drop shots, volleys, ... try some service box game play. And finally the backhand looks a bit shanky sometimes. So many technical points to address.
    But what a blast of a first match that was! Your physicality, mental strength and your power (serve, forehand) are your biggest strengths. When I started following you, I would probably easily win. Now I won't stand a chance.

    3:02 Conceptually, 30-deuce is accurate so long as it's not no-ad. Need 2 more points, if you split the next two it's deuce, it's essentially the same. Feel like I've mostly only heard older generations refer to it as that but it's never bothered me that much. Definitely can put you into a (potentially better) mindset when approaching point construction too. 30-all feels more non-committal with less pressure even though it's one of the 'highest' pressure scores. Deuce has a bit more weight behind it mentally.

If so, you can hit deep well placed rally balls. When opponent understands you can cover all his shots it will put a dent in his confidence. To the contrary, you can tell itself, I’m gonna try and pass my opponent, going offensive mind set. When you get good you can do both at the same time. Hope that helps. I have more tips if this benefits ya. Peace

    What this video tells is that you can survive and outgrind your opponent on the level around 6.5 UTR on just serve and forehand. However, going higher though you need to have other game elements like backhand and volleys in check (not having which almost cost a lost even in the first round). And then playing second opponent it's just the quality of every stroke is completely on another level. And this is a thing that creates doubt in the minds of late tennis starters - is it possible at all to achieve stroke level of someone like 10 UTR if you started training in your late twenties?

    I know you're working on the volleys, but it looks to me like you're not switching into a continental on most of them in live play. That said, I would pay a lot of $$ to have your forehand. With it & your serve, height, and athleticism, seems like you could quickly jump to the high 7s once you get the net game to go with it.

    Work on serve + 1! Definitely some points lost when you could have gained. You got a huge serve but 10 UTR kept blocking it back. Need to get that fearhand going after the return

    really good players get used to pace pretty quickly. flat drive serves diminish in value over time bc of that. I think if you can channel your serving power into an aggressive nasty kick serve, you'd be a real problem for a lot of players.

    What I'm noticing is you're a strong dude and you take big forehand swings but you're not imparting as much power as you could into the ball. You put a lot of spin into the ball but it's lacking forward motion (power). You need to follow through with your forehand, not just rotate but move your body forward. It's as though you're trying very hard to not lift your rear foot. You need to step into the ball prior to making contact and then go with the ball after making contact. Look at your serve, you jump and throw your whole body forward...to impart as much power into the ball as possible. Now look at your forehand, you're pretty much holding yourself back, probably worrying about going long. If work on that, you're forehand will be deadly. ruclips.net/user/shortsLk9vYmWum04?feature=share
