Elvis' editing is one of the things I didn't even like about the film. 🤷♀️ I can see the arguments for Production Design, Costume Design, Hair & Makeup and obviously Austin Butler's performance was amazing. But editing? Nah.
The editing during An American Trilogy (split screen with Elvis doing karate), build up during vegas rehearsal/that’s all right and unchained melody were great.
The main issue I have with Maverick is that the script is so persistently mediocre. But it’s not just that; it’s the context. This was a high budget blockbuster with A-list actors. Visually, it’s stunning. Tom Cruise deserves lots of credit for the effort he put into the role. Why, with so much going for it, couldn’t the plot and dialogue and soundtrack cues have been less cookie cutter boring? Anyway. I’m not hating on the movie or anyone who loved it. But that’s what I found frustrating about it, and I don’t seem to be the only one.
No it’s a fair assessment. I disagree obviously, but I’ve seen plenty of people not love the story. My anger comes from those on tik tok and on Twitter coming out of nowhere and hating it all of a sudden, which happens every year. I’m seeing similar backlash for EEAAO… When I barely saw any hate on either movie two months ago. But your thoughts are valid!
There is no denying his dialogue reading was great but maybe not awards-worthy... But acting is more than that. Flying a freaking jet and doing it convincingly.. Cmon. Plus the movie may have saved the box office.
I'd put Mia Goth over Michelle Williams for sure. I don't understand what people see in Williams; her performance in The Fablemans is so over-the-top and she overacts all the time. Way too theatrical.
