for me, it's orange drums + vocals, and blue guitars + bass. there's a youtube channel that mixed those 2 versions together and I think that sounds the best
Rational gaze is one of those funny songs where it never really caught me on its own like it did for other people, but when they play it live the entire fucking room is either jumping or dancing the second it starts. One of those songs you almost have to hear live to truly appreciate how fun it is. Edit: they brought back perpetual black second after over a decade of leaving it out last time I caught them and it was nasty
28:32 funny that you mention that, because their next 2 releases after Nothing are kinda like that : I, a 20 minutes song of the most random crazy and heavy riffs you've ever heard, about a giant cosmic entity growing bigger and bigger and slowly devouring the whole universe (very Lovecraftian, some people like to interpret as like a literal black hole talking in first person) ; and Catch 33, a 47 minutes musical journey, written as one whole experience divided in 3 parts (Autonomy Lost--Mind's Mirror, Mind's Mirror--In Death-Is Death, In Death-Is Death--Shed), about, to my interpretation, someone, struggling to find their true self and feeling trapped in their body, that then dies (i think?) and goes through like a spritual journey to understand themselves and the meaning of all things etc. Not sure about the end, but either the person achieve ego death and idk ascend or whatever, or stays in nothingness for eternity. My interpretation is probably imperfect, as the lyrics are (as usual with them) pretty poetic, cryptic and very paradoxical (the literal last lyrics of the album : "True are all lies") I consider these two their magnum opus (Catch 33 is even one of my favourite albums of all time), and i really like your reactions, so i would love to see you listen to them !
As a drummer, I'm biased, but Jens uses his voice as a percussive element, so I like the original 2002 version since the drums and vocals are more brought in focus. I felt this way listening to it in 2002 and the remastered a few years later.
If you want jazzy solos, their album "Destroy, erase, improve" is FULL of it! I miss their sound and songwriting from the 90's! nice reaction, by the way! Cheers!
saw meshuggah live last year, i can absolutely confirm rational gaze goes DUMMY hard my bones were shaking the entire set awesome to see you enjoyed it! meshuggah is one of those bands where even if you like what you hear at first, you get more appreciation for the music the more you listen (hence why some people can say that it gets better the more you listen which is very true) i feel like you could definitely tackle the I EP and catch 33 as your next albums, but keep in mind that catch 33 is one big song separated in 3 parts, both are VERY progressive and have some moments where it can be kinda difficult to listen to (for multiple reasons, mostly long repetitions (technically not the case in catch 33 as the patterns, despite sounding similar, do change and barely repeat and sometimes never repeat) and long stretches where not much happens). just sayin all this so that you can be prepared but both are fucking fantastic, catch 33 is my favourite album of all time so obviously i'd love to see it on the channel, but it's not the easiest listen for sure
Thordendal's leads and solos are goated. Dudes an alien. Hes heavily inspired by Allan Holdsworth, and i dont believe ive ever heard anyone who solos like these two people.
Me at 0:19 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Yes, they re-record the Guitars, but the drums in the Remastered are all Programmed, as far as I'm concerned. The yellow version is way more organic. Drumwise is a festival of ghost notes. Cymbals mix is awesome. Voice is not to over-processed. Yellow version FTW ALWAYS!
Great reaction, great album. Blue wins for me, orange sounds so muffled. Btw there is an amazing full concert video which was their Bloodstock performance of 2023. I don't know if you're interested in reacting to whole concerts/live videos in general but definitely make sure to check it out in some way! Amazing audio and Stunning visuals, audio is actually better than any recording they have imo! Been watching you for a long time now, decided to leave a comment for once : ) Keep doing what you're doing!
remix means the individual stems are directly worked with. Remastered means only the final, exported mix is worked with. Re-recorded means the everything is recorded again from the ground up
Yee budddy! There is a dope live video of rational gaze where corey and clown from slipknot, Brent Hinds from mastodon and a couple dudes from behemoth are watching from behind the stage and just vibing hard. It’s from a festival called soundwave, I believe!
You need to hear rational gaze and perpetual black second Live (especially from last yr and 2023) ITS AN AWESOME LIGHTSHOW, just trust me, if you can react to those live shows
Allan Holdsworth is one of the biggest influences from Fredrik, that's why his solos sounds so weird and jazzy at the same time. Oh and Tomas is singing on the song Spasm
The blue version is re-recorded, the 8 string thing is true! I also consider it the way the band intended it to sound like, ‘cause it was a significant change. But which version you think is better is totally up to personal preference
I like fade-outs and/or abrupt endings to songs, I feel like some albums do benefit from smooth transitions and I can appreciate a good transition, but sometimes, I think the lack of proper transitions keep the momentum going uninterrupted throughout the album and I can appreciate that for heavier albums like this one.
Here's a hint about the I ep: after the title track, the two live tracks are from Obzen, so skip those if you'd like to react to those separately. The final track, Pitch Black, is unique to the special edition and is definitely worth a listen in my opinion.
Nah On the blue version the drums sound artificial and lifeless. They likely used a drum machine on it which makes it one step forward using real 8 string guitars and three steps back ruining it with fake drums.

Rational Gaze is a certified hood classic 🔥🔥🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼
You forgot perpetual and Straws as well 💀
@@Godless-Being you mean closed eye visuals and nebulous
Let's all agree, the whole album is. Lol
you're gay
Absolutely false.
It is

Their whole set the last tour was nasty as fuck. Incredible sound, second to no one live.
This song is insane live !
man the lyrics in Perpetual Black Second and Straws are INSANE
The lyrics in any Meshuggah song are

📠📠📠 exactly my opinion, also I personally don’t like the effect they put on his voice

Too bad most of his current "solos" never go beyond tapping 3 notes on repeat

Cant wait for you to react to ObZen especially the last song in that album which for me represents all that Meshuggah is.

Great video as per usual. Super excited for you to hear Catch 33!

0:48 the original one used custom made 8-string guitars. In the remaster they used 8-string guitars made by Ibanez.
You need to hear rational gaze and perpetual black second Live (especially from last yr and 2023) ITS AN AWESOME LIGHTSHOW, just trust me, if you can react to those live shows
Yes that's what I've been saying! The live videos from Bloodstock 2023 are just perfect!
hell yes!!! seeing them with Cannibal Corpse and Carcass in april.
Same here, hypedddd

The way these guys space their note groups, man. Crazy.

Straws Pulled at Random has one of the best endings of a song.

my favourite Mesh album
The drums on orange version are better (real). IMO.
Blue is better for guitars but the drums are programmed/samples whatever.
you gotta react to the obzen album next! Probably my favorite of theirs:))
hes gotta go in order of releases! CANT miss catch 33
@@ohbxnny6299 yea, forgot about that
No Destroy Erase Improve reaction? Is one of their best albums
Bro pls react to the old Album of We Butter the Bread with Butter -"Der Tag an dem die Welt unterging"
You should do "eye" bro 🔥
In my mind, the remastered version is way superior. But people have differing opinions!
Nah On the blue version the drums sound artificial and lifeless. They likely used a drum machine on it which makes it one step forward using real 8 string guitars and three steps back ruining it with fake drums.
Highly disagree.
Great as always!
but please for the love of all that is prog you have to listen to more A Lot Like Birds i PROMISE you won’t regret it
BROTHER YOU NEED TO DO TOOL 🙏🙏
I prefer the original. Dryer more precise sounding. Straws pulled at random. Incredible. Great video though dude 💯
obsidian best track, unironically
Let’s not get carried away
