I am so glad to hear that because I am Taiwanese. I can't speak this language, but before I taught this song for the choir, my friend Edgar Macapili, who is a Filipino conductor living in Taiwan, taught me how to pronounce the texts.

Sorry to burst your bubble but Cebuano is a language not a dialect, we don't call ourselves filipino since in the beginning the people of Cebu existed before Spain arrived in this archipelago, given a chance for a referendum we will separate from this so called Philippines. After all Cebu can stand on its own without the Philippines since before time.

Jerry Grim The song is in Bisaya.. its a language widely spoken in the south of the Philippines.. and yes the "tigiding" and "tigodong" are sounds used to describe horses running but it also pertains to the young lad's heartbeat as he watches this young lady dance in excitement. It even described him drooling. It's a funny song.

    Here comes Rosas Pandan
She came a long way from the mountains
    To join you
    In the celebrations being held
Love songs are only what I can offer
These are what my ancestors left me,
    Songs that are so old
    The pride of these highlands
Dika ding dika ding dika ding
    Ah our love songs
    So nice to dance to
    As cool as the dewdrops
Dika dong dika dong dika dong
Ah also look at Dodong (affectionate term for a young man)
Watching Inday (affectionate term for a young woman)
His saliva dripping (LOL, an expression roughly meaning "lovestruck")
    Ayayay ayayay ayayay
    Ah my love songs
    So nice to dance to
    As cool as the dewdrops
    Tigadong tigadong tigadong
    Ah also look at Dodong

This is our favorite old folksong in the Visayas region of the Philippines, Cebu, Leyte and Mindanao areas. As a Filipino kid, we had to learn this song in our first grade. The song depicts of a young lady from the mountain whose only treasure is to sing a song about courtship she learned from her parents. She showcased this talent in time of festival or celebration in the town.

    Original lyric in Philippine Spanish:
    La rosa
    más primorosa
    que floreciera
    en la primavera
    la he arrancado
    esta mañana y
    en tu ventana
    vengo a ofrendarte
    Mi bella rosa bisaya,
con mi guitarra vengo a cantarte
y a decirte que te adoro
que mi tesoro sólo eres tú.
    Tiquitín tiquitín tiquitín
    repica la campana,
    anuncia la mañana
    va despuntando el día
    Tiguendum tuguendum tiguendum
    late mi corazón,
    mi rosa bisaya
    asómate a tu balcón.

      @AngryKittens Год назад +1

@@justrandomthings709 It's NOT the original version. 😑The song is actually quite modern. The original version is an unreleased zarzuela written by a Cebuano composer, Domingo Lopez, some time before the 1970s. The Visayan lyrics are presumably the original lyrics by Lopez.
A TV-friendly version of the lyrics in Tagalog was written by Levi Celerio in 1973 (without the laway), which was made famous by the singer Pilita Corrales.
The Spanish version is a modern translation of the Tagalog version of the song by Pilita Corrales' former live-in partner, the Paraguayan singer Amado Sarabia (also known as Amado del Paraguay).

When in high school we sang this at a national choral contest in manila along with Baleleng and Ako kini si angi /leron leron sinta and wonnnn. Am a proud Filipino/cebuano. Hearing this made me cry and remember such happy days as a child. I wonder if they understand the words. It is a very happy folk song about Rosa's life. Coming from the mountains selling stuff at the town market , to get by. She joins the town bonding or gathering which was a common tradition in the Philippines, without planning , people would gather to sing and dance. But Rosa is talented with BALITAW , an extemporaneous exchange of verses or words about love , done with graceful dancing , with a man who would challenge her for balitaw. Because she is really good at it , she wins over the man. And the man ends up druelng over her beauty and wishing he could win her love.

Why I did not see this post earlier? Noong 2012 pa pala ito. Ang ganda. I had goosebumps hearing the native song sung by a choir composed by Americans..

❤️❤️❤️🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭THIS ONE OF BEST INTERPRETATION OF THIS MONUMENTAL PHILIPPINE FOLK SONG BY A FOREIGN CHOIR. THE WORDS AND PRONUNCIATIONS ARE EXCEPTIONALY PERFECT. THE HIGH PITCH MELODY ESPECIALLY AT THE END IS AMAZING.
THE STORY OF THE SONG TESTIFIES THAT PILIPINOS ARE THE TRUE OPHERIANS.
THE SONG IS ONE OF THE LIVING TESTIMONY THAT PHILIPPINES IS OPHIR, THE LAND OF GOLD, THE LAND OF CREATION, THE GARDEN OF EDEN, HAVILAH, SHEBA AND TARSHISH. ❤️❤️❤️

I am here in Los Angeles, 05/21/20. I am hunkering down due to this lockdown. The singing and pronunciation are perfect. If I had seen the video, I assume that these are Filipinos singing. Excellent. I will call this a 10, as simple as that.

This is the song my Lola (grandma) used to sing to me when I was a kid and we danced a lot with this. Now, my Lola passed away a few days ago, and I sang her this song as my way of saying goodbye. I will surely miss her. 🌹

BRAVISSIMO!!!!...A very difficult Visayan folk song....not just becuz of the foreign dialect...but the speed and the variety of notes sang in perfect dynamics....the clarity of the lyrics seeing that the singers are quite foreign to the Visayan vernacular...but from afar...the song was sung with absolute clarity and perfect melody as it was to be sung!...the University Singers of the University of North Texas College of Music are to be commended for the well- synchronized and accurate execution with absolute dynamics of a very difficult foreign song from the Philippines...As a Visayan myself...i truly commend the University Singers for a very laudable performance!!!!..
    MABUHAY!!!!
