You have got to be able to tighten the jib halyard otherwise you will not be able to go into the wind. It needs to be bar tight when you are going to windward. The forestay can be quite loose. Helpful , I am about to try and fit one.
Why is the red line attached to the top of the jib? Why do you have the bottom attached to the furler with rope? Why not just attach the bottom directly to the furler using the shackle? Thanks
