Two great players showing a repertoire that mixes classical with traditional Brazilian music. Full length concert.
I saw them last night, live. I can honestly say that 40 years ago I was fortunate to have a front row center seat for Julian Bream and John Williams, and the Brazilian Duo far exceeded that. It was the best guitar performance I have witnessed in 57 years of going to concerts.

Joao performed at my school and I got to meet him and sit up close while he played and even played for him and I have to say he is one of the most humblest and phenomenal guitarists I've ever seen
I had the pleasure of meeting Douglas Lora at my local pub. He was a complete gentleman and class act. I hope to see him again!

The level of skill that it takes to have the dexterity to play this, the concentration to memorize every note, and to play with feeling is quite remarkable. Inspiring!
So much hard work. I can't even imagine how much time was poured into those guitars. A perfect example of what any typical human being should strive for.

Well, it may be true indeed. But the worst part of it all is when you are the kind of man who believes that saving the lives of dying children is the most important thing. Then you realize it does not earn. Later on, you try to find a means to go abroad and help the dying, starving, decaying, or poor children in whatever way it can be done, asking for basic survival needs as the only recompense, but rather sooner than later you will find out that nowadays you actually have to pay an organization quite an inappropriate amount of money for just being able to experience helping those children, paying about 2,000 dollars for 2 or 3 weeks of breaking your back to keep human potential from deteriorating, and to try and instil values into those children that will not be corrupted by modern consumerism. ''Kill the poor'' by Dead Kennedys is getting more relevant than ever, and although I love this guitar playing, I just can't get rid of my conviction that dying children are more of an issue than anything else on earth, that my energy should be directed towards that problem, not anything else. Thus I know I could never concentrate on this, because there are dying children that are less important than business forever engraved on the boundaries of the sphere of my mind.
It's like, even if God exists, which is difficult to believe, what do you think would he want? Would he want art or would he want a world where no children have to die unnecessarily? Or would he have us manage to do both? Well, then I guess those men in the video should play guitar and others (with the same altruistic affliction that I was born with) should try and take care of the rest. I think this makes sense even if you look at the matter from the viewpoint of reason, as the art adds to philosophy which has been shown to be a necessary part of most human lives, and the more children that survive, the more potential there will be to create great art or discover scientific truths, invent some new technologies. But the propaganda is so strong these days that there are two problems, those who would go and willingly try to help have had obstacles thrown under their feet by both those who wish solely to profit themselves and those who they make their profits from, because they mostly accept the capitalist ideology of profit over matter, living matter specifically. And then, with almost nowhere to run, nowhere to turn, one finds it difficult to do anything at all... The world has grown too wicked, for now it has dropped its apparent injustice and substituted it with rather well conceived mechanisms of deception.
All I want to say is, never say anything at all with certainty, how do we know what we should do? It is indeed possible that each and every action of each and every human being that has ever walked or crawled upon the surface of the earth has never been right, not even once. How do we know anything in this chaotic universe? I think it is most reasonable to assume that we should concentrate on inventing new technologies all the time rather than selling the old inventions to people who are not educated enough to use them properly, using little children to manufacture them. Those children could actually be scientists, now they're working almost 24/7 to give stupid teenagers from wealthier countries nearly robotic apples, which will then in turn be used to chase a giant piece of shit along the surface of the display screen. It is time for God to say:''Let there be darkness!'', for I can't look at this shit any more...

Simplesmente fantástico!!! A musica nos envolve....
O João e o Douglas dão prosseguimento à tradição de duo dos Abreu e Assada, mas têm luz e som próprios. Só pela limpeza da articulação lembram os supracitados gigantes, mas esse duo têm um quê diferente que os faz original. Quanto mais escuto, gosto: pela interpretação e pelo colorido orquestral. É uma das melhores coisas que tem acontecido no cenário musical (brasileiro e internacional). Douglas é excelente compositor “cearense”. Ra, Ra!

A riqueza encontrada neste Brasil de talentos desconhecidos aqui faz um pensar que pouco é feito na divulgação destes. É necessário ir-se a internet em busca deles, além da sorte que os dedos precisam em acha-los. E sem querer descobri este dueto, que enriqueceu minh'alma e fez viajar por longo tempo pela felicidade de ouvi-los. Muito grato pelo esforço que fazem em deixar alguem feliz ao som que produzem.

Apart from everything else, their sense of timing is flawless. Great choice of tempos (apart what the music calls for). Extraordinary guitarists. Brilliant. Their ornamentations are like no one else's apart from those of a harpsichordist.

Thank you for posting this. I really enjoyed it. I tried to listen to this while I was studying but had to turn it off. It was so good, I could not concentrate on my work. I just kept listening instead of reading. Listened to it later on.

I attended Guitar Day at the CT. Guitar Society a couple of years ago and these two guys showed up in their street clothes (not looking any different from the rest of us slobs) and proceeded to conduct a Master Class which blew me away. Later on that evening they performed and it was, as was expressed by some in attendance, kind of scary. They were that good. I love these guys...two brilliant and dedicated artists.
A Total World-Class Performance here, I have loved watching this for years now, it is so incredible.
Not too bad! So I don't have to memorize theses songs too hard to remember to play . Just enjoy listening to these super guitarists to know Scarlatti and Bach.. are really awesome composers.... Thank you very much.

very badass musicians. I'd love to see these guys in a live concert. Saw Duo Sudoamericana not too long ago and they were great but I personally dig this vibe a bit more as far as the program goes.

É verdade. O ensino do violão erudito deveria ser levado mais a sério no Brasil. Muito embora não seja de origem brasileira, mas a viola erudita é um símbolo do Brasil.
