Oranges are the symbol of the medici and the medici was the original mob, so maybe the oranges in the move have to do with that.

    • @Roiben100

Michael Franklin "Two humans alter their brain chemistry for a weekend. Normally this would be enjoyable for most humans, but these are professionals, ensuring that they experience inexplicable horrors and undergo the most challenging of encounters with their primitive perception of the world using their paltry five senses. Hilarity ensues as they repeatedly nearly puncture or electrocute their frail human blood-filled bodies, have sex with an under aged human female, and continue to inadvisably alter their primitive meat-brains."

I've been hoping, at some point, Wisecrack would find a way to mash their shows together. I'd love to see you guys take a piece of literature that was also a great movie and somehow mash Thug Notes and Earthling Cinema together for maybe just one great kickass episode. Just as an example, if you took Gone With The Wind, have Sparky give his piece on the novel, Garyx does the movie, and in some way have them interact. Of course, one is from the 21st century and the other is from thousands of years in the future, but I'm sure the writers at Wisecrack could find a creative way to make it work.

I think this movie is also a story about The American Dream and capitalism.

Reading through the book for the first time, I got a larger impression of it just being commentary on the corrupt. Obvious, I know, but it's interesting to think about.
In the beginning of the book, especially in the first section, Mario Puzo builds up a kind of "golden image" of the Mob, where it seems like it's better than the government or anything else. It seems like the right path. This is especially reinforced when we see the "lawful" side in Hollywood, were men's careers are ruined because they angered one man and the leaders are all pedophiles who see no value in anything but themselves.
You get to thinking that the mob is great, nothing beats the mob, you wish the mob ruled instead of the government--and then comes the deconstruction. The "golden image" is built up to its peak in the section that shows Vito's past and the reasons that he became the leader of the biggest mafia family in New York and likely the country. Between his seemingly good reasons and Mario's selective scenes that he shows you, you end up loving the mob. Mario does a good job in not showing much of anything that the Corleones do wrong, without good reason. We see the other families murder with no regard for anything else and do awful things, and we see Hollywood producers alluding to raping children, but the Corleone's don't do anything that can't, from a perspective, be seen as righteous. However, after we finally get to that peak Mario slowly eases you into the realization that the Corleones are just as bad as everyone else.
Slowly but surely we see everyone become more vengeful and manipulative. You go from seeing Vito as a nice man who helps people out and makes a little money on the side to a heartless crook who manipulates everyone around him. You go from seeing Michael as the angel of the family who doesn't want to join in the crime until someone's hurt his family, to the person in the book most adamant about seeking revenge, the most hate-filled character in the story. Mario, instead of saying "it was taken care of" like he does in the first part of the story and following, describes in detail the crimes of the Corleone family more and more as you reach the end of the book until it culminates to the finale and you hate everything about everyone in the book. Michael is as awful as his father, who you come to realize was an evil man. Johny Fontane no longer seems empathetic, but pathetic as you see he lets his friend die when advised to help him. In the end of the story, the only ~~living~~ person you end up feeling bad for at all is Kate, because she has to live her life "not knowing" that her husband is a criminal and a murderer. She knows, but she doesn't want to, and she doesn't ask. Kate follows in Mrs. Corleone's footsteps and becomes a quiet housewife who prays for her husband's soul every single day.
Because it's either look at it that way or it's just a 1970's version of Fifty Shades of Grey with halfway decent story and more murder.

Nathaniel Andersen - Happy New Year Nathaniel!! I love your breakdown!! Kate was long-suffering and she knew about the business but she LOVED the heck outta Michael!! I believe Michael was worse then Vito. Michael changes all the way to the dark side when Appollonia dies and Frebrezio, his bodyguard, betrayed him. It was no turning back then! Sonny was a hothead! Fredo was an idiot and Tom wasn’t Italian so the Family was doomed anyway you look at it. Tell me whatcha think 🤔!!
