Dear Creative Assembly, this will be the best Total War game ever. I appreciate so much that you put so large amount of quality working and effort to Rome II. I admire the historical era of the game, the empires that had been forged together at the time. And most importantly I admire your hard work that has changed my gaming experience of strategy games since I was 11 years old. I hope only the best for you, don't give up and make the game that will leave it's mark to the world. - Joker
Thanks bro! I started reading about that mod and it seems GREAT! what a good advice! i would like that everybody on the internet would be like you bro, God speed.
You are correct good sir the splintered remains were called the Successor Kingdoms which were the Ptolemaic Dynasty the Seleucid Empire and the Antigonid Dynasty. In regards to the other guys comment before the Persian Empire there was the Ancient Egyptian Empire, the Hittite Empire, the Assyrian Empire and the Babylonian Empire. All of these could be called 'superpowers'
i agree. Most early empires were flash in the pan, short lived phenomonons that basicly wiped out a few cities, placed a few govoners and laws- and thats it. most cultures, beliefs, systems of govorment were left alone, there was real attempt to unite the emnpire under 1 banner or a single creed. This is why when the ruling authority showed weakness, one conquered city would rise up and swollow them up with ease ( e.g babalyonia against assasraya)
- Continuing : troubled that if too much effort is put in graphics the 'feeling' of the gameplay might be lost. Anyways! Thanks for the Uppland Eurogamer - appreciate the upload!!
That was awesome. As an engineer, I love hearing about the nitty-gritty stuff and what types of things go into these large-scale games. Incredible. I am beyond excited for this game. However, I agree with TimHotston that the questions were utterly stupid. Custom games, really? That's like asking a developer if the new Call of Duty is going to include online multiplayer
A question I would've asked is: Are there gonna be something like the Timurids/Mongols in Rome2, as there were in Medieval 2. The Timurids coming in end-game to shift the difficulty of the end-game to a much higher level was something I really enjoyed in Medieval 2. Hope there'll be something similar in Rome 2
I agree, apart from the faction question. Even after winning as on of the Roman Factions in the original, there was still loads of faction you couldn't play as.
All is awesome but it would be even more awesome if we are given to ability to add custom details like: paintings on shields or decide what the standard uniform/armor and weapon our unit will be equipped with. But of course the armors we chose will have outcomes such as effectiveness against certain types of weapons; the adaptation or new arms and armors will require a few years(about 10 turns) before they are equipped with what we decided and with a cost.
I've been telling those around me for years that gaming would exceed the movie scene. Was it 2004 or 2005 where the industry surpassed the box office and since then has grown in leaps and bounds. Interactive Media > Non-interactive media. The sheer scope, content, depth and aesthetics going into games these days is insane. For me I'll always remember Caesar 3, EE, AOE2, RA2, MTWI, RON and other such games fondly, but the future is very exciting!
One thing i really want is to have actual long term borders and to care a little more on creating a functional defensive infra-structure, Simple Looting without Occupation and with the extra time on my hands Crush rebellions and oppress my people (or the conquered) On Rome 1 i created Forts System so i could defend from a attack with minimal units, save cash.. but then there was nothing to do... and pillaging was useless. EB improved it a lot.
Am I the only person wondering if the City viewer will be back in Rome 2 ? I Loved watching the town grow and find the buildings you built in em like aquaducts and double aquaducts and garrisson's .
Roma Surrectum II. Best mod ever made for the game. Gives the non Roman factions the attention they deserve. Looks totally different and is way more detailed than vanilla RTW. You should try it!
Depends how you define a superpower. Those other empires were mainly just feudal systems where a number of kingdoms dominated by one, like how the Parthians dominated Persia till the Sassanids took over. Nothing like Rome.
This is how i felt in 2004 when RTW(1) came out. Now add some 9 years of improved software, hardware upgrades and tons of graphic & pc power-----ahh I can't wait!
It would be awesome if there was an expansion or some sort of version of the game that would allow for massively huge armies like 50,000 soldiers versus 50,000 even if it meant lowering the graphics and poly count it would just be an amazing thing to see.
Because if you expand without a set defense when you are attacked by surprise you might lose a whole front ( I was Julii, more land borders) and a garrison to defend 3 to 6 provinces is worth it. Oh! The bloody rebels! they are the best reason to have a cheeky army waiting in a fort somewhere, a bunch of cav is ideal. That is a good point, if you disobey the senate in a mission For example, is there a high penalty or something? i imagine they will not change the formula much, but it is welcome.
9 years since the original Rome, but still its better than every other rts game out there in my opinion, only challenge is the other total war games. I withstood the test of time!
They have it spot on. An elephant is one of the few animals that moves its left and right legs simultaneously, the front foot will follow the rear foot precisely as they have it in the animation, you can see it clearly here - /watch?v=iOE7dTuLCiU. A giraffe is another animal which moves like this, with the 2 left legs moving then the 2 right legs.
Wish I was part of the Mocap team, looks like a lot of fun. The question about whether it'll be going to console was stupid, of course nothing like this would run on the current consoles.
I think the dance segment should be added in the game but as an option.that can be activated in options menu. It should initiate only when a battle is won.
I'm pretty sure they noticed be now. I think that was just sound testing video for the elephants foot steps. Plus their in Pre-Alpha at that time so it could have been just a stand in animation for the sound department to test the 3D environment for sound. No need to worry.
I'd really love to see these 3 things in R2:TW, this is what made the first one amazing imo: 1. EPIC soundtrack... PLEASE rehire Jeff van Dyck or keep the same music that you had in R:TW! 2. Free-for-alls and other styles of multiplayer battles. Friday night 8-player FFAs FTW! 3. HUGE diversity in factions and pretty colors. I found Medieval 2 rather dull because all the units and factions seemed to be a little too alike.
Awesome i've always wondered what would have happened if Julius Caesar hadn't betrayed the republic and named himself emperor, I always thought it might have lasted longer had it stayed a republic and not spread itself to thin by constantly fighting on multiple fronts the way caesar had and many emperors did.
I agree with you, rome 1 was awesome yet is getting older and older, so yeah rome 2 was a great decision. Im sure they will be making a medieval 3 but probably they will try to focus in expanding their eras and between them improve past games.
Romes empire took 100s of years to get to its full might and power.Alexanders took approximatly 14 to 15 years to get, yet it was similar size to Romes empires size at its biggest. The Macedonian Empire was undefeated in battle during alexanders rule.Rome had been defeated hundreds of times during their rule.If alexander didnt die so early the Empire would of stretched further because of no Dispute between generals.
It looks and sounds really great so far, but basically that's all he talked about. What about the most important issue, the AI??? How will enemy or allied factions react on your troops movement, how will enemy armies react to your cavalry flanking, can you help your enemy's heir overthrow his ruler and establish an alliance with the new ruler? The list goes on and on. In empire total war the AI was badly broken, so i guess that's the thing they should be focussing on
Ever hear of Spartan Total Warrior? Came out on the Gamecube, Xbox, and PS2. Made by these guys, good game, just underrated and had to compete with the likes of Halo and Call of Duty.
It is also currently the number 1 anti-piracy client for games, saving companies millions which can be invested in games, provides a revolutionary landscape for the modding community to share mods, makes purchasing games online infinity more secure and allows for smaller developers to sell their products in a competitive environment. As well as this it also allows users to build an maintain a gaming community as you can manage friends, groups and other social features through your gaming client.
I've heard that they intend to build on Shogun 2's dilemna system, where you have to make a decision between two possible actions. But, in Rome 2 decisions will rely more on previous decisions, causing you to branch out down different paths. It probably means that you can a) choose to defy the Senate, act in your own interests, Rome becomes more autocratic (eventually...an Empire). or b) obey the Senate, Rome remains a Republic. plus Christianity vs paganism Plebians/democracy vs Patrican elite
I don't know who was the public on this... But if it was me, every time he announced new features I would get up and scream WOOOOOOOO YEEEAAAAAHHH I love you James and throw confetti in to the air...... So exited about RTW2 will buy a new pc just to play it !!!!! U with me legion??
They should make a medevil 3 and make it a lot different by making you own units like, archers at the back spear men infront and swordsmen in the middle.
If you can play higher end games, you will probably be able to run this. Probably not on Ultra or max but maybe medium or low. Even then the graphics will look awesome.
Not the best questions I heard during a Q&A session... 1. Will the factions be split up accroding to history (for example will the Gauls be in several tribes but when they are united much more powerful units on the battlefield?) 2. The campaign map: more settlements more technical in the case of management and or development, subcities and villages that can be raided or just the cities as in Rome1 ? 3. Will an army carry more units 'cause the presentator wasn't that specific about it, and more!
Also the elephant could be in a full charge, when an animal or even humans sprint their usually not touching the ground. To the human eye a horse looks like it constantly has contact with the ground, but if you where to slow down the footage a lot you can see that there are times it's completely airborne. Same with humans. As for an elephant there's no way it's airborne ha but you can see the front legs, when they stretch out, are reaching pretty damn far for a normal step.
but the question is why? for me, total war games are a learning experience as well as strategy games, shogun 2 brought different aspects of sengoku jidai into play especially with the fall of the samurai expansion but rome really had everything needed so its really just a HD version of the game with a few more improvements, no historical changes (from what i've seen). the three kingdoms brings something new and fresh, whats next? medieval 3?
Can there be a Colosseum mini-game where we can battle small groups of gladiators against each other or wild beasts? And depending how riveting they are, and how exited the crowd gets, it makes you more popular in game, so your cities are less likely to revolt, etc.
yea, i totally agree. Empire unit was so bland and i couldn't tell em apart. The biggest reason Rome is my fav. of all the total war game (played and own all) is because of the unique faction/ unit available. When you play as Egypt..its not just a clone faction of Rome. Although, i'm fine with them introducing new gameplay mechanic little by little with every sequel.. the game learning curve is quite steep if you aren't a long time player.
Lower quality troops such as militias should have their own recording of motion because they do not have the discipline of higher quality troops when fighting. If you observe the way riot controls are held out, most people including the highly trained police officers with shields and baton tend to jump around and stutter once they engage. Err actually I'm wrong, in fact the rear left will move forward first before the corresponding front left moves forward as we'll. it's a bit tricky to explain since it doesn't fit the common perception of an opposite correspondence in locomotion such as that of a dog or a cat. There should be a Wikipedia article called Gait that describes different forms of biological locomotion.
I want the "I want to die" camel in-game as a special unit from the Army of the Damned, a special emergent faction that shows up during the year 2012 (if you play that long) in the campaign and just steamrolls the entire Mediterranean.
Well the download servers are at times painfully slow, an internet connection is required to get the full experience and various other small issues which steam works through one at a time. They relentlessly patch any issues which cause even slight user discontent. Though I find it hard to point out any real negatives, its not as though one must buy their games through steam, and steam can be run in offline mode etc.
The "Formation" style Warfare used in the games wouldn't fit the Modern style of Combat, starting around World War II. Now, if they were to extend the Empire Timeline so you could start at 1700 and play up until 1918, that would make more sense, as World War I was more or less the last war to use troops in the formations the game uses. Of course, that ended due to machine guns, tanks, planes, etc.
I really hope they do Empire 2 Total War next, not Medieval 3 Empire is definitely the best Total War in my opinion and I'm fed up with playing in an age before huge linebattles
you can cleary see that in "your" video, the elephant starts moving the 2nd foot just a moment before the first lands, and that is correct. but in the animation, they stand on 2 foots for way too long.
Supposedly the Shogun II minimum will still hold, but apart from Kyoto the battle maps for fortresses in that game was sparse indeed, so I have difficulty believing that claim from a Gamespot article.
First GREAT Superpower! I would call it so, persians weren't the same kind of sophisticated/military power as Rome, as Alaxander showed previously by toppling their empire in a short series of battles...
They all had the chance to question that, thoe would be intresting to actualy find it if they had a talent tree or skill trees for economy, army, naval and science.
true, the modding has become impossible, rome had some good ones but it just got harder and harder. This is the main reason why i decided to play more Paradox interactive games because of their modding accessibility
Dear Creative Assembly, this will be the best Total War game ever. I appreciate so much that you put so large amount of quality working and effort to Rome II. That was awesome! Very well done. Can't wait to play it.
Yey uploaded just in time for Christmas.

Iceni is going to be awesome to play as. I just hope that the path finding will be upgraded, especially for chariots.
i agree. Most early empires were flash in the pan, short lived phenomonons that basicly wiped out a few cities, placed a few govoners and laws- and thats it.

thanks for the video it was most informative, the CA guy was a great speaker shame the crowd was so subdued tho ^_^
Yup, totally agree 100% mainly because the size of the actual game and my internet is just not fast enough will take days.
One thing i really want is to have actual long term borders and to care a little more on creating a functional defensive infra-structure, Simple Looting without Occupation and with the extra time on my hands Crush rebellions and oppress my people (or the conquered)

I hope there will be historical generals for the campaign, custom battle and multiplayer battles, just like in Napoleon
Off on a tangent, did you see that spear-throw animation? Sheer beauty!
They are just as stunned as are we. So cool!

that's quite ambitious, I really hope they don't fall short of their and our expectations

I cried watching this....masterpiece!!!
If you can run Shogun 2 then you can play Rome 2 on its basic settings, they already said that in previous information.
The Javelin throw animation is soo fucking awesome!!
They should make a medevil 3 and make it a lot different by making you own units like, archers at the back spear men infront and swordsmen in the middle.
I definitely going to buy this game when it's on pre-sale.
Sounds great can't wait!
really hope it lives up to Rome total war
If you can play higher end games, you will probably be able to run this. Probably not on Ultra or max but maybe medium or low. Even then the graphics will look awesome.

My most anticipated game right now...... Hurry up release date damn you!!!
Try darthmod. It makes you bring more men to the battle and units can also hold more men! Also does alot of other good things for the total war games.
5:02 Ships on artillery? EPIC!
Carthage, you're gonna become troup transports incoming by air line >:D
Yes! Someone else who loves it too!
They released a blood & gore pack for Shogun 2, so I would hope that they would include one in this game.
but the question is why? for me, total war games are a learning experience as well as strategy games, shogun 2 brought different aspects of sengoku jidai into play especially with the fall of the samurai expansion but rome really had everything needed so its really just a HD version of the game with a few more improvements, no historical changes (from what i've seen). the three kingdoms brings something new and fresh, whats next? medieval 3?

I fell in love with the spear
yea, i totally agree. Empire unit was so bland and i couldn't tell em apart. i love how they are giving the soldiers more personality
Nice, but ... 2 Things :
* in Medieval 2 and the first Rome when you have entered a battle in the campaign map you would have dropped into the terrain as it was shown on the campaign map, and the armies would have started as in the campaign map as well - this feature was removed in empire which got me really disappointed - will it come back? it should come back ! it was a great feature.
* Multiplayer campaign - they should add it and make it compatible for both long and short games !!!
How I loved that feature
Err actually I'm wrong, in fact the rear left will move forward first before the corresponding front left moves forward as we'll. it's a bit tricky to explain since it doesn't fit the common perception of an opposite correspondence in locomotion such as that of a dog or a cat. There should be a Wikipedia article called Gait that describes different forms of biological locomotion.
I want the "I want to die" camel in-game as a special unit from the Army of the Damned, a special emergent faction that shows up during the year 2012 (if you play that long) in the campaign and just steamrolls the entire Mediterranean.
kinda but insted of cannons there will be arrows and onagers and instead of 6th rates there will be birines and trirines it will be realy cool
the audience is awed by this peice of art
I would have been happy if they re-released the first RTW with a new campaign
the memory it takes to download!!!!!!!!
cant wait to see they mods for this
Well the download servers are at times painfully slow, an internet connection is required to get the full experience and various other small issues which steam works through one at a time. They relentlessly patch any issues which cause even slight user discontent. Supposedly the Shogun II minimum will still hold, but apart from Kyoto the battle maps for fortresses in that game was sparse indeed, so I have difficulty believing that claim from a Gamespot article.
You are not alone my friend..
Comes out in October.
I really hope that the game will realy be like he is saying it will be
definetly will be in my top 3 games ewer
I cant wait omg it is gonna be legendary
First GREAT Superpower! I would call it so, persians weren't the same kind of sophisticated/military power as Rome, as Alaxander showed previously by toppling their empire in a short series of battles...
this video ist just epic ( lots of fun inside it) !!!!
That's amazing!!!
