Many thanks for your concise, informative vid on the nuances of why pinching figs to spur on production of fruit. Of all the fig vids out there, and two people in particular who are rather wordy, no one has explained ‘the why’ more clearly than you; that the basis for doing so is all about tweaking the plant’s redirection of hormones! Because of your explanation, ‘pinching’ suddenly made sense! So question, here in Southern CA, since you pinched on July 3rd, is it too late to do so here a week later on July 10th? I have a Chicago Hardy that’s set near 50 figs, a Black Mission with about 25, and a Violette de Bordeaux with a paltry 3! All are just for personal consumption and sharing with neighbours. Incidentally, I subscribed - like your style!
@floraaficianado5050 Thank you so much for your kind words and for subscribing! I'm glad the video helped clarify the concept of pinching figs and the role of hormone redirection. Regarding your question, pinching on July 10th in Southern CA should still be effective. Given your local climate, you should have ample growing season left to benefit from the practice. Your Chicago Hardy, Black Mission, and Violette de Bordeaux will likely respond well to the pinching, promoting better fruit development. Best of luck with your figs, and happy growing! 🌿
Hi @OneMound1, The conduit hoop tubes are used to protect the fig trees over the winter months. They are insulated with leaves and covered with white plastic. If you're interested in learning more about our fig trees, we have a playlist dedicated to them. Thanks for your question!

And the metal hoops were used to drape a net or do they serve another purpose?

Thanks for your question!
I don’t think fig trees would grow way up here in Wisconsin
