Helpful yes... with us in Canada we don't get our tax papers until usually end of January to end of February so when I get them I print them off if needed if emailed to me, then I file them in an envelope with the year on it then I do my taxes online as if it's a basic personal one you can do that online and send it in by e-file. Then if you need to pay taxes you can send in the payment right then afterwards, if you get a refund you get it sooner than if you mail in the tax forms for the year.
Great advice Renee...I follow many of the same techniques. 👍😊👏 I am a Type A personality...& it really helps me in my work & personal life. I am a very organized person & I like it that way.
Great advice Renee. As a former legal secretary I had to be organized and carried that into my home life. I basically use the same process you do only difference is I pay all my bills at the beginning of the month ... yes, some may not be due for 15 days or so, but they are paid and I do not have to worry about them.
Oh my goodness! Just looking at your pictures will make anyone who's having a bad day happy what an amazing smile. How are you doing today? Love to hear from you
I get all my statements online except for my water bill and a couple of doctor bills. I also have a few things on automatic payments. I’m currently in the process of decluttering my office space and paperwork is the one number problem I have to much of. Half the time I’m not sure what to keep.
As a former corporate executive secretary for many years, I've always used these tips. I can't imagine any other way to stay on top of all the paperwork and responsibilities. It can get overwhelming if you don't have a dependable system in place. The planner helps in so many ways to quickly eyeball bills and appts.
So true dealing with mail when you bring it in. A few years ago I found a website where you could request less junk mail. I signed up online and it cost me $2. The reduction in junk mail has been wonderful. I don’t remember the site but it’s worth investigating if you don’t like a lot of mail.
I don't get much junk mail because I am very conscious about giving away personal information anywhere (store clerks asking for your phone number when paying is a no-no) , and I will call the toll-free numbers on unwanted catalogs to have my name taken off their mailing lists, and will return charitable donation envelopes w/o donations (I have enough I donate to) and a note on the payment form to take my name off their mailing list. Emails, if legit businesses, I will hit the "Unsubscribe" button at the end, and for real spam, I have it already set to go into the Spam folder, where I just scan the "Subject" before deleting it all at one time.
I do all of these but in a different storage style. I bought a January through December file folder and put all receipts and bills for each month in it. I do have separate file folders labeled car, house, insurance, taxes, health insurance/bills. I don’t always remember who I’ve used for repairs etc, so just put them in the correct labeled folder. I also have a shredder which I keep by the counter where I go thru mail and immediately shred junk mail, magazine labels, and package labels. Great video! I forgot to add I pay most of my bills thru automatic withdrawal and the others no matter when due, the first of the month online.
That would be fantastic...but only if I would commit to scanning everything. I know myself....and I wouldn't stop every day and make the time for that. It's simple for me to just put it in a file folder. Done!
Old school here, and it is so much easier and less anger producing to use the old system of papers rather than the PITA electronic/technology way. "Paperless society" my rear.......IMO tech created more work, and I'm not the only one who feels this way.
Useful advice, thank you for sharing. Your pink sweatshirt is so pretty. I looked in your Amazon favorites, but didn't find it. I've purchased several of your recommended clothes and love them! Sandy
I do the mail sort as soon as I get it but instead of filing away bills that need to be paid, I just pay them now. Most are on auto pay so there aren't many that I need to pay myself and I always pay them online so no need to save the envelope. Once paid, I have a filing cabinet in my kitchen that everything gets filed away in.
Love this...I love organizing and these are all fantastic tips! I am like you in that I would rather write it down in a planner because the more you write something, the more it sets it into your memory. Plus I check off everything as it gets done and there is something so satisfying about checking stuff off...Lol! My dad was seriously organized and I get a lot of my organizational skills from him. 😁
When we lived in the States, I linked all my bills so they were paid automatically! Another plus of living in Mexico - NO JUNK MAIL!!! I have a similar system in my email - separate folders for items that are labeled.
Thanks for the tips, funny thing I already do some of them. It is always great to have new ones. Here is to a great 2023. Thanks Again Renee! I watch all your videos. Have been watching for about a year now.
Renee, you are so right! I owned a coffee and tea business and I have used this same paper system since 1987. I sold the business in 1991. I do use an online daily calendar, however. It pays to be organized and able to find things and keep track of everything. You made me feel good about the system I used as I too am an organizer, by nature. Thanks so much!
What an inspiration! I’m in my 60s and have always wondered what to do with all the paperwork! Really. I don’t get paper bills because I pay everything electronically. But the rest of it? Genius! And I never really thought to maintain a tax documents folder. Thank you so much. I’m getting those accordion folders *today*!
You're so welcome!! I also have all of my bills paid electronically...but most companies insist on sending a paper statement for record purposes. So I file it away...and never fails that I refer back to it for some reason anyway. So you'll just need the A-Z file and one small folder for tax things. Yay....now your organized!! 😁
Great tips Renee! Especially about not putting the mail down in the kitchen! I have a similar system for paying bills. I did start at the end of last year a filing system where you file by month that you receive it, not by the name of the bill, so you would have 12 folders for most bills, but you still have separate folders for important things, like taxes. It's supposed to be easier to clean out every year so your folders don't get too full. (Freedom Filer System) Thought I'd give it a year to see if it's actually easier. So far so good. Thanks again for the great tips!
Yep number one is my biggest problem piling up that crap, I'm also not very organized with paperwork I could have never been secretary, but starting today I definitely will go through that pile as it comes in from the mailbox, thanks for the tip
I use all of these tips and thank you for stressing a written planner versus online planner. I use my iPhone and iPad for other uses, not daily planning. My planning calendar is used for one purpose and I always know know where it is in my house.
Hi Renee, thanks for making this video. My new year's resolution is to get organized, and you have helped me in a big way. I am ordering the folders you mentioned in your video today. I am retired (just like you) so I don't need the large planner. I have a small pocket planner that I use. I love all of your videos, and I am looking forward to the next one. 🙂
Morning Renee...Great System 👍... I also open my mail right away... I have a filing cabinet( I'm old school too) for instance a file labeled Car- for my car insurance, car payment, oil changes ect...one for example labeled credit card bills.. I will keep for a year...every January I clean out my files, throw away what I don't need and it's on for another year😄.... Yours sounds like a better system....I'm ready to get rid of this gaudy looking file cabinet 😄
Yep.....I have one drawer in my desk that I keep my "tax file" and that's it! Then my a-z folder sits on the shelf so I can always get to it easily. Perhaps it's time for you to change it up a bit....it's a new year...give it a try for 2023 😊
I recycle paper w/o identifying information. Sometimes I will magic marker out identifying info before recycling, other times it goes into a box as-is until my community has a $5.00 shredding day. Depends how lazy I am, lol.
I'm old school too Renee. Love my planner, same size as yours. Everyone's bdays in there. Among other important dates. I agree with all your tips, very on point! Question, how do you handle your medical bills, statements and EOB's? Pending medical bills. Thats always an issue year to year for me. This was a very helpful and timely video, which I'll watch again and take notes. Thank you.
I keep a separate folder specifically for medical. I keep every EOB and attach it to the invoice once I've received it. Pending "to pay" medical bills stay in the folder until each insurance filing has been completely resolved and I know what I owe "if anything". Then once I make the payment due, I mark my payment into on the invoice (check #, paid online, etc) and file away in my a-z folder under provider name.
Thanks for those great tips! Organization has never been my strong suit, but you have broken it down into easy to follow steps. Now I just have to get off the couch and do it!
What tis your desk area like? Mine is also out int he open and it drives me crazy. Where do you store the file folders and any other organizing tips for the planner and file folder?
Good morning!! These holidays have got my days messed up, almost missed this video.😉. Great tips!! Appreciate the help!! Ready to do the Happy Dance?!!
Not always prompt at picking up and reading mail. I usually flip through and find bills that come by mail, although most of mine are email now.. Some bills are paid through the bank, although I usually have to schedule them. Others I just pay on line. I did see your earlier video on this subject and picked up an a-z file. This is emptied yearly when I do my taxes. This bunch is bound up by rubber band and moved to a box in the garage.
Great advice 👍😊 I do this all the time but a little different for me. It's amazing how much time this same me at tax time or when I need to review my budget. Thanks for sharing 🤗
Cute sweatshirt in a yummy color!! Would you mind sharing where you bought it? BTW, I do all of your tips and I can attest to how well they work. People tease me about my “old school” daily planner, but hey, I don’t miss anyone’s birthday! 😅
It's so easy to just lay it down. But I promise...if you immediately open it, throw out all junk, and take it one place....those steps alone will make you feel so much more accomplished. Follow through with my entire system and you'll be rocking it!!!
I use one alpha file. Paid bills filed most recent to the front, with the unpaid in front of paid and turned up to call attention to it, but I generally pay the bill as soon as it comes in.
Great tips and wonderful, easy system! What do you do with your permanent records like marriage/birth certiifcates, dog records, auto records, investment/retirement account info? Thank you for your clear tips and instructions!
Hi Renee' Funny, I just bought a large accordian folder to use, but not sure which things to use it for, you said get 2, 1 Alphabetical, 1 numerical! I love that idea! Now I'll be OK! Thanks so much! I learned the hard way about mail, not bills other stuff, getting put aside to check out later! BAD idea for sure!! Great tips and I find the tax folder very helpful, I've been doing that for years and never need to scramble to look for any papers I may have hidden in a pile somewhere when tax time is here!
Great advice Renee 🥰 I definitely open my mail and if needing sorted they go straight on the table in front of me where I sit, if I've dealt with it I file it in a filing cabinet bought for exact purpose.. things that STILL need sorting are STILL in front of me in a folder of 'things to be done' .. Admittedly, 😰 this folder is a big part of my problem... I need a 'Superhero' that is handy with various skills... and finding that person seems to be gold dust ✨️ 🙃 💖 ❤️ xxx
Ooo yep....that's a tough one. Perhaps ask around your neighborhood for people that your neighbors have used for various handyman skills. That's what I do. And they will tell you if they did a good or bad job.....and give a full honest review. Love my neighbors!
@@WelcomeToMyCurls I actually had one guy come today who did some tiling for me.. tomorrow he's coming back to finish it off 🥰 So.... that's one job less 🙌 xxx
I file as you do and I am an 😂old school filer to..A wood file cabinet and my monthly ledger which contains all of our monthly expenses..Everything paid is filed away..once a person developes their file system it is headache reliever..
Renae, Do I understand this correctly? Question: in the alphabet folder; only paid document/ invoices are kept here. Numeric folder: only bills to be paid are kept in this folder. However, when paid, move to alphabetical folder.
Very good! I do very similar things...in fact I just got my manila envelope ready for our 2022 taxes because the paperwork started coming today in the mail. (The government wants their money or should I say OUR money!) I loved the daily planner idea. Like you, I'm old school and use a calendar but that really doesn't cut it. Purchasing your recommendation. Thank you.
I have a bills folder, but the paper statement only goes in there once paid, and hardly have any because most of it's all done electronically these days. I have an old fashioned filing cabinet with folders for tax, superannuation, personal, all sorts of stuff. I have an online budget sheet for my fortnightly pay day, how much comes in, and what needs paying that week.
Thanks, Renee! Great video. I have a similar system but I use a large binder with page protectors. I have a question that is off topic so I hope you don't mind. I see Pollux in the background and he seems so well behaved. Did you have any trouble getting him housebroken when you brought him home from the shelter? Thanks!
Hi! Pollux was 1.5 years old when I adopted him. In the shelter, he learned not to potty in his run. So when he came to our house he learned within the first 3 days how to tell me when he needed to go outside. Plus I took him frequently in the beginning so he would never have an accident. Since the first week he’s never gone in the house. He’s a good boy!
Hi Renee, Just watched your organization hacks and love your ideas. I already do something like this. There are some things I hadn't thought of. Anyways, my real reason for commenting is that your hair looks really good in this video. What did you do? Did I miss a hair video? PS: I don't know how this happened but I noticed I was not subscribe!!! I know that i was but don't know how i got unsubscribe....I fixed it.
Put it in the date it's due....not the day you will pay it. Then create a bill pay system that works with your budget. You can pay ahead by the month, week, so forth. But filing by the due date will help you plan.
Unsubscribe from all the mail and save some trees! Look for a customer service number for each company and ask a live person to take you off their mailing list. It takes a little effort at first, but after persistently unsubscribing several years ago, my family gets no mail about 3 or 4 days a week.
Great tips from our smart gal Renee! Luckily my husband takes care of all of that. He uses Quicken and I don't know how that works. I do take care of all things medical & medical insurance. I do it old school like you. I also take care of all of my mom's medical stuff and any recurring expenses. She doesn't have a computer or internet so I make her payments for her thru transfers or drafts. I have to be diligent to keep my stuff separated from hers! Thanks Renee!
Hope that was helpful! Now it's time to put this plan into action in your own life 😊

I recommend a scanner and electronic filing system. At least at the end of the year. The clutter of paper can weigh you down, even organized paper.

Renae,
Do I understand this correctly?
Question: in the alphabet folder; only paid document/ invoices are kept here.
Numeric folder: only bills to be paid are kept in this folder. However, when paid, move to alphabetical folder.
You got it!!! 😃
Thank you.
Hi Renee, by the way love your pink shirt in the video❤️
Love all your videos...Off subject here, but where did you get your pink sweatshirt? I need that in my life :)
The sweater is from The Loft…and it’s a few years old. I love fuschia!
@@WelcomeToMyCurls Wow! Yes he is a good boy! So happy that he got a loving home!
Beautiful house
Hi Renee, Just watched your organization hacks and love your ideas. I already do something like this. There are some things I hadn't thought of. Anyways, my real reason for commenting is that your hair looks really good in this video. What did you do? Did I miss a hair video? PS: I don't know how this happened but I noticed I was not subscribe!!! I know that i was but don't know how i got unsubscribe....I fixed it.
If a bill is due on the 10th you can’t put it in the 10 slot, you have to put it at least 5 days before, unless you are paying it online.
Put it in the date it's due....not the day you will pay it. Then create a bill pay system that works with your budget. You can pay ahead by the month, week, so forth. But filing by the due date will help you plan.
IM GUILTY OF LEAVING MAIL ANYWHERE! 😳
Oooo....then you need to get organized! This is the perfect video for you! 😁
Haha youre helpful.
Pullocks wants to go out? He looks out the window at your back.
Go paperless with bills! You still need a file for other things of course but paying bills is easier.
True! I pay everything by automatic bank draft....but for those that don't want to do that...they will need a file system :)
P.S. I have a wastebasket in my garage. The junk mail never makes it in!
You handle mail exactly as I do. Are you one of the four Astrological organizational signs: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius?
I’m a Cancer 🦀
Cancer is a leader and you certainly are ahead of your time. Love your channel 💜
Unsubscribe from all the mail and save some trees! Look for a customer service number for each company and ask a live person to take you off their mailing list. It takes a little effort at first, but after persistently unsubscribing several years ago, my family gets no mail about 3 or 4 days a week.
Are you going to tell us why adding cream to our coffee doesn't break our fast?
Less than 50 calories will not spike your blood sugar and break your fast.
Before throwing any out that is not junk mark out your name due to people that in these days are stealing I'd info depending on the neighborhood
So sad, hardly even see the dogs anymore, not even running under your feet while you are on video..
they are being lazy because it's so cold and rainy outside.
