anthony star deserves an emmy. i just watched this scene, and it not only makes sense for the character of Homelander but let’s be real it gives off more tension NOT knowing what the hell his next move is going to be regarding the situation. It would be satisfying, if Homelander did kill off everyone down there in a less than 15 minutes , but it’s far more cruel to see him slowly toy with the people who hurt him as a child and have them constantly on their toes in this impossible situation. i don’t agree with the idea that the scene is “watered down”.
I dont know why it wasn't more fucking brutal I was disappointed in the episode because I felt it held back and just showing the aftermath of the bad room fucking sucks
The only change I would have made was to keep all the homelander scenes together. Cutting away to the other scenes released the tension too much. I think it would be much better if the tension kept going up and up
But in these scenes, there was a need for mystery after Because You Ate Cake, and the holländer was probably talking to the saint before he started kill them👌
I think its better for character, of course. Though I would have had Homelander turn off the oven and you just have this burnt charred guy screaming through the rest of the scenes until they go into the bad room
I support Anthony in this and he was right about the decision that he made. Mindless torture would've just felt like watching a slasher movie where now it gets personal and you never know what comes next which makes audience at the edge of their seat
As great an actor as Antony Starr is, it’s incredibly sad he has to basically do the writing too to get good scenes from this show anymore. The original idea from the writing room would have just been yet another lame shock scene.
It seems less watered down and is more about building moments of tension. You have no idea at what point Homelander is going to fully snap and commit an act of cruelty. He goes from being cruel one moment to sounding calm and normal the next moment. It was pretty uncomfortable and terrifying to watch.

The original version must've been a BARE BONES draft, not yet thought about properly. Because that would've sucked so much.
anthony star deserves an emmy.
i just watched this scene, and it not only makes sense for the character of Homelander but let’s be real it gives off more tension NOT knowing what the hell his next move is going to be regarding the situation.
I think it would be much better if the tension kept going up and up
But in these scenes, there was a need for mystery after Because You Ate Cake, and the holländer was probably talking to the saint before he started kill them👌
Anthony Starr’s notes actually made it way better. Conveyed exactly what he described: a scene where you don’t know what’ll happen next.
I think its better for character, of course. Though I would have had Homelander turn off the oven and you just have this burnt charred guy screaming through the rest of the scenes until they go into the bad room
I thought he'd slowly turn it up, ngl
Wanna know something even more brutal than either scene.
If they don't pay Antony director credits for this episode.
It kinda reminded me of the opening scene in Inglorious Bastards, where you know there's this tension and it's going to end badly through the fake smiles.
JOHN 3:16
FOR GOD SO LOVE THE WORLD, THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHALL NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE
That oven scene could of went to another level with some high pitch screams
Back away from the mic or turn the sensitivity down bro haha
I wouldn’t call it watered down at all. I think that Anthony Starr did an amazing job making the scene more interesting with his idea and acting.
You dare to place ads?
"watered down" as if this version isn't much better than mindless torture just to be shocking
This scene was perfection. Brutality isn't art.
